The injuries thread

Why is it that our players never seem to actually heal properly? Every time it's "they have had a set back"

The thing is, it's not just us anymore, there are other clubs starting to suffer the same issues, we were just ahead of them by a couple of seasons.

Something is wrong with football. We want to see the best players play, but so many of them are getting injured.

You see Tyler Adams? Re-ruptured his hamstring and will be out until February. No doubt if we signed him and this happened we would've blamed our medical team.

Having inflated squads really is the future.

Another week and it's another long read. N'kunku next January apparently.

Reece posting that he will be fit "against all odds", Cole "shakes off a hamstring" to play against a bunch of schoolboys, You couldn't make this sh*t up.

I'm not a medical expert so we have to trust that the medical staff know what they're doing but surely we're not too far away from going down the surgery route given how much of a recurring injury this is.

I wonder how long surgery has been an option to fix him.

You have to think it would have been on the table with the World Cup limiting injury, if not earlier.

Specialist surgeon - not the Chelsea medical staff - deemed the op unnecessary. You can only rely on expert advice.

Looks like a carbon copy of Kante. Tried 101 remedies and then in the end he needed surgery.

Fofana, Badiashile, Chalobah, Chilwell, Lavia, Chuckwuemeka, Nkunku and Broja. And James, who clearly can't play any significant minutes yet.

Today Mudryk and Enzo were added to the list due to some muscle problems. We're playing once a week, it's not like the players are getting overworked, and yet instead of players coming back from injuries we're getting new ones every week.

Is it just bad luck becasue it feels like we're the most injury ridden team out there. And it goes all the way back to Tuchel time when we last had all the key players available to field our best first eleven. What's going on?

It can't just be bad luck, teams playing 3 games a week has lesser injuries than us. Most of them weren't even injured in games, did they run too much or run too little in training, doing too much weights, not stretching properly? There has to be an inquest, the way players been going down, even a squad or 35 won't be enough. I could understand the injury tolls during Tuchel's last full season, we were playing 3 games a week and had no rest, this season was just madness.

I made a baseless claim that it had something to do with the training pitch at cobham. I can’t back that up at all or have any facts to draw on but something is wrong.

Tuchel had this problem

Potter had this problem

Poch is now having this problem

This can’t be a coincidence.

In fairness today aside where it was bad again with a couple of what are hopefully one game injuries, it’s getting better. It’s not the type of thing that’s going to change overnight unfortunately.

We seem to have some stock update phrases for our injury list :

"Progressing with the reconditioning phase of his rehabilitation" :  Lavia, Nkunku

"Starting the reconditioning phase of his rehabilitation" : Gusto

"Continuing to undergo his rehabilitation programme"  Chilwell, Fofana, Chukwuemeka, Chalobah, Ugochukwu

I guess the reconditioning phase means building up match fitness after the injury has been fixed, and hence closer to a return ?

All very vague though LOL

Yeah, it’s all very corporate and doesn’t tell much. Saying that, if Gusto is started the conditioning phase we won’t see him for 2-3 months at best based on how these statements unfold.

Current levels of injuries by club:

Note the number of clubs whose injury list (while less players than us) is nevertheless resulting in a collapse of their form and league position ... in Arsenal's case only with 5 out LOL

It would be interesting to compare the figures of, say, the previous 10 seasons: are numbers increasing, is there a link with number of played matches, including international tournaments, with far away pre-season destinations?

Who doesn't have a life to speak of, or wants to escape the one they're having?

I'm busy.

Feels like we’ve been at 8+ injuries for over a year now. Be really interesting to see what this squad could actually do if fit for a prolonged period of time.

Depends on whether good players or sh*te player are on a club's injury list too

Yeah and that's where you notice the media bias. When we had more injuries than Brighton and Newcastle, you never heard it talked about. Once those media flavours of the month started picking injuries, there was no single commentary, positive or negative that didn't have their injury situation ad-libbed to fit the narrative

And that's why even though I have been mega pissed at Boehly's strategy I haven't been too harsh on the team nor Poch because we have never been able to play what would have been our first team squad all season.
