January 29, 20242 yr Sounds like this rumour may have some legs. Speculation is he has said yes to our interest to his agent and fancies the challange here. Would not be able to play in the league cup, but not cup tied in the FA Cup.
January 29, 20242 yr Not worth it. He is 32 next month and seems to be injured more than he is fit and like most of our other players who join, you would imagine is injury record will only get worse and with his age, not a risk worth taking imo.
January 29, 20242 yr If we bring him in I think it would be regarded as lowish-cost stop gap signing to give us some cover in the CF area until we bring in a longer term target. Injuries are a concern/risk but he would bring proven goal scoring and good experience.
January 29, 20242 yr Always rated Wilson. Better at finishing than any of our CF's... Selling Broja would create the need for this sort of short solution.

A short term loan with a big fee & an obligation to buy if he meets certain targets is the way to go. That way if he does exceptionally well till the summer we can trigger the clause, and if he gets injured we just walk away.

I reckon, if it happens, a 2 and a half years contract with a club option for a third year would be a likely length. Allows us yo spread the cost over that time for FFP, and as he is on "only" 50k a week at Newcastle we could likely get away with putting him on 60k with bonuses to top it up
January 29, 20242 yr It would be a crazy buy, an injury prone striker to replace another one in Nkunku.......... what could go wrong!!
January 29, 20242 yr Oh dear im repeating myself here Another championship journeyman, short term loan wouldnt be too painful, shame he is not ineligible for league games as well as cup games 😂 File with Toney under : will not make it at a top club

His injures are why we shoudnt sign him, but hes a top class striker that I would love to see us sign if he could stay fit. Hes exactly the kind of player we need.

Its the injury record that's the issue. As a striker he is better than anything we have at the club at the moment, at any level.

The only reason I don't think we should sign him even short term is because of his injuries rather than his ability.
January 29, 20242 yr Fair comments gents im probably being a bit hard on him but, 6 years at Bournemouth isnt top level and i maintain that he will not cut it at Chels even if he stays fit and fresh.

Don't think he's meant to be our final main striker solution, but he's a cheap option that can do a job till the end of the season. He definitely add goals and if/when we get our main number 9 in the summer he's perfect as an impact sub and a reliable goals scorer to play cup games etc. He's also at an age where he won't completely stifle the pathway of our younger strikers. Like most have said the only problem is his injury record.

Pretty sure we sign a Wilson we might as well forget paying big money for a 9 in the summer without European football. Personally would ship out Broja & continue using Palmer in a False 9 role as cover till the summer.
January 29, 20242 yr The reality is though, its 29th January. The window closes in two days. It took this lot nearly two months to sign Caicedo and they nearly ballsed that up as well. Can almost hear the Ziyech fax machine breaking down again on Wednesday night

Think if we are to buy Wilson it will depend on if we can sell Broja which is probably not going to happen this late in the window anyway. As for Jackson I'm not sure what the plan is, does the club have the patience to persevere with him up top? I think he's always looked better playing slightly deeper/wider, didn't he play with another striker at Villarreal? Maybe we have room for 3 strikers Jackson used as a second striker in certain games?

With the way that Mudryk has routinely underwhelmed so far this season, you may well have a point there with Jackson working the left hand side and cutting in.
January 29, 20242 yr Fitness aside, I like the idea of signing Wilson. PL experience, top score for Newcastle past two seasons. He seems pretty determined, and frankly, he's tough to play against as he's got that nuisance and persistence approach. Signing him gives me similar experienced vibes to Giroud, Eto or Demba Ba (albeit different types of players). The injury record is a problem, but he'll fit right in!
January 29, 20242 yr 1 goal in 2 for Newcastle and brings experience. If he stays fit he’d be a good signing I think

If the young players are good enough they'll compete and they'll play but there should always be competition for places at a top club. When there isn't you end up with deadwood like Broja getting minutes and the alternative being an untested teenager. Callum Wilson is a good player and he'd do a steady job for us for 18 months but if any young striker can't compete and get ahead of an older Callum Wilson they're not cut out for the level we should be at.
January 29, 20242 yr how many injury prone players do we have to sign before the club realise it's f**kiing stupid?
January 30, 20242 yr Apparently we need to sell Broja in order to comply with FFP so sell him and get benzema on loan.. go for a more permanent solution in the summer.
January 30, 20242 yr Sorry, if we are to get another player in we need to sell, according to sky anyway so probably bollocks🤣
