Race for the Europa League!

Featured Replies

I know some of my fellow shed enders still believe our season is not dead and we can still make the probable Europa League spot of 6th.

Maths do back you guys up so this thread is for you. Remaining fixtures for us, Newcastle and United (I am not including West Ham because...why?).

Current League standings:

6th. Man United 33 Games 53 points

7th. Newcastle 33 Games 50 points

8th. West Ham 34 Games 48 points

9th. Chelsea 32 Games 47 points

Man United League Fixtures:

Burnley Home

Crystal Palace Away

Arsenal Home

Newcastle Home

Brighton Away

Newcastle League Fixtures:

Sheff United Home

Burnley Away

Brighton Home

Man United Away

Brentford Away

Chelsea League Fixtures:

Aston Villa Away

Tottenham Home

West Ham Home

Nottingham Forest Away

Brighton Away

Bournemouth Home

I think Newcastle will pip United to 6th. Even Burnley may get something off United and after that their Fixtures are difficult, whereas Newcastles are pretty nice.

Agreed. We needed those 4 points dropped vs Burnley and Sheff United imo. Our remaining games are too difficult. I dont see us winning either Villa or Spurs, and probably not West Ham.

Arsenal game wasn't one I expected any points from (could have done without the disgraceful performance mind) but now we have to pick up at least 4 wins from last 6 to have any chance I think. Realistically we need at least 4 points from the 2 games against Villa and Spurs to keep us in contention. A week ago that felt possible but after yesterday not so much. But we shall see.

Next 4 games will be tough, 2 teams are currently ahead of us, WestHam always lift their game for us, and Forest are desperate for points. Are we really gunning for the Europa spot? I ddn't see it from yesterday, you'd think at least we put in a bit more effort in. It would be a pleasant surprise if we get there. Given the injury toll of this year, is this team even capable for playing another dozen ( or close to) extra games a season?

The joy of a Europa league race is that teams drop points unexpectedly

Newcastle will lose one of their games.

Personally I think we can finish 6th, but I actually wouldn't mind getting conference league next year as it's the only European trophy we haven't won !

I understand that we get sanctioned or fined if we qualify for the conference league

I think that's just hack pundits passing off their guesses as fact. But let's see

It’s based on the selling of assets loophole. Allowed in the premier league but not UEFA. Clearlake selling that hotel wouldn’t count under UEFA regulations if we qualify and the fine for breaching would be greater than even being in the conference league.

If we manage to beat West Ham on Sunday I might start to believe we have a chance of 6th. But we would probably need to win at least 3 of the last 4.

Newcastle storm in to a commanding 3 nilly lead at Burnley, which would see the table look like this:

6th. Newcastle 35 Games 56 points

7th. Man United 34 Games 54 points

8th. Chelsea 34 Games 51 points

9th. West Ham 35 Games 49 points

Newcastle favorites for 6th imo.

As I said when making this thread, Newcastle are the favorites.

Newcastle draw Saturday before our match against st Forest makes things very interesting.

Yeah Brighton have been getting thrashed by everyone bar a knackered Villa team.

23 minutes ago, just said:

We could even finish 5th. Completely feasible that Pisstercockloo's Spursy Hotspurs don't win another game to the end of the season.

That would make me very happy.

Fifth?! Even 7th place is making me dangerously lightheaded. Can we please drop back to 10th, I need to recover.

Always glass half full Val.

@axman2526 you need to start adding Spursy's remaining fixtures and points tally.
