Renato Veiga

If it's true he really does see himself as a left sided centre back, then I (selfishly) would like to see him play there a few times before we go ditching him (albeit at a profit)

Maybe all his weaknesses (slow, not hugely creative, not great positioning) go away when played as CB.

Kind of crazy in a world where have him, Cowill and Badiashile already here (to play LCB) and want to go out and buy Guehi

If the transfer is completed this January then the profit will only count for this season's books 2024/25 and can only be used to offset spending from the 2024 transfer windows. However, that leaves us with a few important implications:

  • One of Felix, Neto or Sancho is essentially 'free' in FFP terms this year - meaning less pressure if we need to sell them later
  • The money completely offsets Romelu Lukaku's FFP loss, meaning if he hits his reported performance clauses we turn an FFP profit 😂

Someone one day needs to take all the Football Manager financial data (or whever else you can find it) and turn it into an FFP calculator app. It seems like these days the wages a club pays, the transfer fees or the actual profit/loss is functionally meaningless other than how it plays into the FFP profil/loss calculation

Signed for 12.5M if we manage to sell for the quoted 20M then it’s 7.5 profit for the year or in FFP terms a (roughly) 40M signing amortised over 5 years. Good business for a fringe player.

I think there's certain members of the squad i'd agree about this but i think Veiga has shown enough that he's got a good future ahead of him.

I think a sale now is very shortsighted by the owners. This is a player that within 6 months of being here is comfortably starting for the national team alongside a CB that is touted as having a big money move shortly. We sell for 20M now and celebrate a 7.5M profit, but we'll be cursing when Dortmund flip him for 50M to City in 18 months.

We should be looking at a loan if he's so desperate for game time.

Am I the only one confused with this Veiga debate?

Veiga is better than what I expected but he is still very raw. Why Maresca bother with this kind of player. If you want to develop this kind of player you need to give him minutes, the more minutes you give him the more people think you can't coach.

This is the kind of a player a good manager would be able to mold within a season or two into a solid player, he has most of the tools already.

I would agree if we were defending our title or favorites to win the league but in our foreseeable position we can afford to give the likes of Veiga enough mins.

Id rather they didnt and just left us fans to bother about the football, all this financial bo**ocks is just a complete waste of time. We were told all year that we had no chance of passing it for 23/4, we were doomed, all the so called financial gurus were certain of it.  Turns out they were wrong.

No one ever used to give a sh*t about it all, now some clubs have back room staff almost as well known as the bloody players.

There is very little incentive for Maresca to play Veiga. Playing raw player like Veiga who is not exactly very good (very different to acheampong who has crazy talent) mean you risk result and most people will think that you cannot coach.

Allegedly now he is refusing to leave permanently and only wants to leave on 6 month loan deal. Strange situation but I see minimal benefit in allowing him leave on loan.

Does not really add up for someone who wants out of the club, as the club's PR has spun.

Dortmund now looking at others as they thought he was available for loan but the club will only entertain a permanent deal at around £20 million.

It could suggest that we need money in now because we’re going to be active in this window

How quickly this has changed direction a few times in 48 hours. Lol.

How was Veiga able to agree terms with Dortmund as quickly as he did without Dortmund approaching the club first? Certainly if we only wanted a permanent move then Veiga wouldn't of pushed for it....

Good question.

Is all guess work based on this speculation that may all be BS anyways but, right now, it sounds like Veiga wanted his agent to find him a loan to get regular play time as a CB, agent found Dortmund, who were keen on a loan, agreed loan contract to cover Veigas Chelsea deal, came back to Chelsea expecting expecting green light, got told can only leave via a sale and neither Dortmund nor Veiga want that so now Veiga is in hot water with Maresca for this mistep.

I can't imagine Maresca or the club are happy about this.

Probably be out of today's match day squad for a start.

I wonder if Nkunku will be as well?

If I had to guess what happened, Veiga saw the Guehi rumours and felt like he never was going to get a chance, so the only way he could prove himself as a CB is on loan.

  • 2 weeks later...

Braindead, we are going into a game at Man City with only one Defensive midfielder, it’s likely Enzo and Lavia are out, Veiga has played there and is better at it then KDH , City are stronger in midfield then we are, are we going to see Cucurella or Gusto playing there?
