S.L. Benfica vs Chelsea (CWC) Sat 28th June 2025 21:00 GMT

Our attacking play has been really poor today, even with the game stretched and wide open spaces we've made a right mess of attacks.

No wonder we're still in the market for attackers.

Why aren’t more games delayed in case of the risk of alien invasion or other one in a trillion possibilities?

My main beef is according to the lady on the TV, she has experienced a four hour lightning possibility delay. How the feck am I supposed to drag out my last three cans over four sodding hours??!!

In a country where one can shoot up a primary school every other week and a mall in between they evacuate stadiums if lightning is within 30 miles is quite preposterous

I got turfed out of the rose bowl and missed a Iggy and Siouxsie perform for exactly the same reason a few years ago, dry as a bone inside, 1000s having the crack, ended event early kicked us all out, then outside they lined us up to wait for shuttle buses into Pasadena in a chain link fence lined area where you line up people in parallel lines - herded us into a ️ conductor / attractor array from apparent safety inside the stadium

Comparing school shootings to convective weather risk. Pathetic.

Yes, I think in the Netherlands a youth player was killed ages ago.

[off to google]

The son of former Netherlands goalkeeper Jan Jongbloed was killed on the pitch by lightning. https://panorama.nl/artikel/501851/vier-keer-dat-het-vreselijk-misging-met-onweer-op-het-voetbalveld

And apparently recently a player in Peru was killed by lightning as well.

Here’s an example from 2019. Stadiums carry similar risk as high points on this golf course from 2019. Same part of the world.

Still annoying to stop though

That's a golf course with players carrying steel clubs around.

Lee Travino was struck twice and survived.

Was it wise to have a tournament in such a location, with such conditions?

Ridiculous planning from the organisers. Im sure there must have been a more suitable location elsewhere in the U.S.

Maybe the powers that be will have this game finish behind the safety car.

Agree. In this case it struck a tree. Stadiums have lightening protection systems to lower risk, but this one’s learned the hard way.

Definitely something to improve here regarding kick off times and weather risk. It’s also been a crappy month for weather in the south of US. Fingers crossed better for World Cup.

But that would involve all those involved making less profit so hold it here in June and feign safety precautions like you give a 💩 about people and the players well being

I've taken heat for my complaints about this tournament, but I stand by everything I have said. It isn't going to work.

sh*t attendances and sh*t football with mostly exhausted European teams. Cooling breaks in every half because it's so ridiculously hot. Players go off 5 minutes before the end because weather might get bad. It's just a mess. The crazy part is that FIFA could give the US the next Club World Cup too. Apparently they are considering it because they want to grow the market over there. Once again, it's all about the money. The US will never take to football, it's just not going to happen. It will forever be a niche sport for them. It's like asking the rest of the world to take to the NFL, it's not going to happen.

It's been really frustrating, because every other part of our game has been fine. For some reason, everybody just sh*ts themselves when they get close to the box. It's the usual overthinking crap that just continues to get worse under Maresca. He's coached the instincts out of them.

It should never happen again. Whenever we win a game in my mind I'm thinking "that's great revenue for the club" and not "we're one step closer to winning the tournament" because I don't care and this isn't what football should be about. This is a sports washing vanity project by FIFA and Saudi Arabia, they couldn't give a toss about the welfare of the players, the clubs have had the chequebook waved in front of their face and have chosen to look the other way with any player concerns because I guarantee the vast majority of the players playing in the European leagues do not want to be here . It's a complete disgrace.

If in fact 🌩️ had actually hit the stadium we would of heard the bad news by now so in effect by my timekeeping the match would of finished by now and everyone could of left safely with an outcome decided.

Lighting doesn’t have the NRA, 2nd amendment backing it plus if lightening started mass killings they would love it.
