Bob made a good point. The SDs likely view Fofana and Colwill as the “experience”. They aren’t going to bring a CB on high wages and no resale.

They’re hoping Sarr, Jaquet and Josh learn off of them.

Exactly. At best, adding Jacquet to the squad will be just increase the number of inexperienced CB's with potential that we have at the club. But with a limited amount of loans available how do we ensure they all continue to develop with adequate first team experience? If we are going to sign somebody now it needs to be a player that is ready to go straight into the first team.

Watched some videos of Jaquet. Only so much my untrained eye can pick up. Pros - seems to have good anticipation, reading, tackling, reach and passing.

Concerns - he lunges with a lot of tackles from a stationary position, relying on timing. If he misses he is on the ground with limited recovery - reminds me of Trev in that regard. Also for his size he didn't seem that quick - looked like he took a while to build speed but that might be way off.

I left 20 mins of videos thinking why not just give the playing time to Josh, or Sarr. And all these 20 year olds, despite their talents, are in desperate need of mentorship and learning from those that have more experience. If we spend £60M or so on Jaquet then its another baffling signing to me up there with Mudryk and Gittens.

Ah so the French Chalobah then?

@timetowaste will be delighted...

Fofana, Badiashille, Disasi, Gusto…

We’ve got a track record under this ownership for signing sh*t/injured French Defenders therefore we should avoid this at all costs

Frogfree wherever you may be!

Pretty sure someone once put a few filters in the scouting database and nobody's remember to clear them. We can't keep using the same sh*t profile to buy the same players on purpose - can we?

Not sure this is a £60m player ... and certainly not for someone with such limited career experience (<2500 top tier minutes)

Then again, this is Mamadou Sarr LOL

To illustrate how unreliable defensive statistics are for analysis:

That's William "The French Maldini" Saliba

That's Tosin. Literally better in every metric, according to my data-driven analysis

Hope it falls through and we do the actual sensible thing and bring in Senesi.

He is average though; only selling point is he will be a freebie in the summer. Bournemouth will rightfully demand at least £20m, and we talking Tosin type wages at minimum £120k/w.

Not sure he moves the needle, and find it interesting neither City/Liverpool aren’t interested

Amortisation of the transfer fee or some other nerd maths will be mentioned to explain it but any normal person knows its bo**ocks, especially with the calibre of players.

Resale is the biggest influence. It's also much harder to sell a player on 300k than it is a player on 100k, especially if that player is a bust.

Back to nerd maths, but resale value also needs to account for their PSR book value at the time of sale.

The issue with offloading a Disasi is that they overpaid so much for him in first place that his book value was around 28m last summer. Many clubs would be happy to meet his 80k/pw wages, but few would be willing to pay 28m to Chelsea and meet his wages. Hopefully this summer, where his book value falls to around 20m, clubs might be able to compromise.

Another example might be with Enzo Fernandez this season. Obviously we will not make an actual profit on the ~105m we spent but to merely break-even would require a fee of around ~80m. Who is going to pay that for a 6-goal/5-assist a season midfielder? Only PSG, realistically, unless Enzo fancies Saudi...

So in other words the idea that low wages = better resale chance is very limited at best, although it is an idea that the media keep pushing. The Venn diagram of clubs willing to meet the club's expectations of a break-even fee, and player's expectations of maintaining their wage is vanishingly small.

Not even Senesi. If we are going to spend 60M+ for a defender it should be for someone in the Bastoni/Schlotterbeck pack of defenders. Ready made ones and quality.

Insane to even think of spending another fortune on yet another 20 year old when Sarr and Anselmino are coming back at the end of the season and they already both look like they are going to be some fine defenders.

SENESI IS A FREE IN THE SUMMER, IF WE BRING HIM IN NOW WE COULD GET IN FOR AROUND 10 MILLION, NO RESALE BUT CHEAP WAGES AND EXPERIENCE, WAS GOOD AGAIN LAST NIGHT, BUT I THINK THE JAQUET DEAL IS FALLING THROUGH BECAUSE OF THE PRICE AND THE OWNERSHIP WANT IT TO FAIL, ITS ALL A RUSE TO CONTAIN THE NOISE FROM THE SUPPORTERS, WE WILL SIGN NO ONE

Did not know he is a free agent soon. Guess it makes sense, yes. Definitely better than Tosin.

Senesi average? Not at all.

With Disasi reintegrating into the team I'm waiting for the Fabrizio/Ben Jacobs "Chelsea have belief in current CB options and will not pursue a deal for Jacquet this January"

So nailed on isn’t it. Called it weeks ago.

What's the point then? I thought we needed a CB now. If we sign him now for the summer, it doesn';t help us and we still have Colwill, Sarr, Anselmino and then him coming back at the same time.

It's probably too much to hope for that this lot will ever build a balanced squad, or learn from any previous mistakes, or exhibit any consistency in thought process or decision-making. It's simply beyond them ...
