Joe Cole sheds a little light on what we always suspected of the Anfield Propaganda Machine:

Joe Cole: Liverpool thought they were bigger than Chelsea

Joe Cole has criticised his former club Liverpool for masquerading they ‘the biggest club in England’.

The midfielder signed for the Anfield outfit after being released by Chelsea in 2010 but failed to make any sort of mark at the Reds, featuring in just 26 league appearances for the club.

Cole eventually left Liverpool for his hometown side West Ham in 2013, but the midfielder has now revealed the root from where things started to go wrong for him on Merseyside in an interview with CFCUK Fanzine.

The 32-year-old said: ‘When I joined, the guy interviewing me said “you’ve joined the biggest club in the country” and reeled off the trophies they’d won.

‘I just said “Yeah, if you put it like that, I suppose you’re right”, and Liverpool used that as the headline to the interview.

‘I didn’t want to upset anyone so I just went along with it. But obviously they are not the biggest club any more.

He added: ‘How do you judge how big a club are? Nottingham Forest won the European Cup twice but they’re not a bigger club than Chelsea.’

DAN PETRESCU has revealed he turned down the chance to manage Celtic.

And the Romanian legend told how former Hoops boss Neil Lennon warned him of “problems” at the club.

Petrescu’s long-term assistant Dumitru Stangaciu revealed in Record Sport in May that the ex-Chelsea player was on the Parkhead club’s radar as a possible successor to Lennon.

And the former Dynamo Moscow boss said an offer was on the table but he opted to take over at Al Arabi in Qatar instead.

Speaking to Romanian TV station Dolce Sport, Petrescu said: “The offer from Celtic was concrete, I had it on the table.

“Celtic is a very big club but I chose to join Al Arabi. I have no regrets, now I’m with Al Arabi.

“Celtic contacted me, they wanted me. I spoke to their previous manager, they have problems.”
