Random Rumours

Wilson might not be the marquee signing we'd like, but there isn't exactly a long list of top quality strikers in Europe we have a remote chance of signing.

Could be a great fit. He's aggressive, quick and a good goalscorer. He'd be a considerable upgrade on what Morata offers, and although he lacks Giroud's aerial prowess, if he can get in sync with our midfield and be the finishing touch it could work out a really good fit. I'm on board with this rumour.

I'm not a fan of buying home grown, because let's face it, they  are either out of reach financially, or not an upgrade to what we got. Drinkwater has been a disaster, Barkley is pushing for regular starts after about 10 months. Wilson will cost us around 40M, is he good enough to nail down the starting striker position? That's a big if, his goal scoring and injury record is not that fancy either.

I would rather just ride out this problem until the summer than sign another stop gap. That £30-40m could go towards a world class striker next season. We need to stop spending our money on mediocre players. Drinkwater, Bakayoko, Zappacosta and Morata cost us over £150m. We need to stop spending our money on players like this, it's just a waste.

I agree with the money wastes, and the ideal of bringing in a proven elite striker in the summer. But are there any realistic options out there? I genuinely don't know who we'd be looking at.

Icardi seems one of the few proven (kind of) players that can hack it and seems to be somewhat free to move to another club

This makes sense. Apart from his age, which I'm unsure how the club would navigate around with the one year contracts.

Mertens is a decent player, weighs in with a healthy number of goals, and knows the Sarriball system. If we could get him for a sensible fee he might be a good option for a couple of years.

Considering our recent attempts to buy players from Napoli, I expect they would want something outrageous for him, like 50m.

Agreed. That is one reason why this seems unlikely. I cannot see us splashing out big money on a 31 year old.

He, by all accounts, wants a change of scenery and I think his contract expires next season. He has also mentioned how he would like to play elsewhere and has spoken about Sarri recently. There has been talk the move could happen in January.

That could definitely be the case but I have a hard time believing that De Laurentiis won’t be difficult about it and demand an astronomical fee.

I think it depends on whether napoli get piatek. This is probably their last chance to get a decent fee for mertens, so maybe he could be available.

Mertens is nearly 32 though, how quickly would he adapt to the premier league? It seems like a short term solution to get us to the summer, I'm not sure it would be worth the money.

If the right players aren't available in January, I think we should stick with what we have, maybe recall Batshuayi, and then look at again in the summer, when we have some clarity on hazards future.

Being linked with a £70m bid for Isco today.

yup.....would do well I reckon. Can pass, can create and still young. Pep might be in for him as well, a Silva replacement for the future.

Wish it wasn't The Sun who first reported it. I trust FIFA 19 simulation better than I do their reporting. I think if Isco comes this way, it means Hazard is going that way. Isco and Cash isn't a bad replacement for a man who wants to go to Real anyway.

We should buy this guy as our RB and sell zappacosta he is only 20 years old and can play as CB too.

EDER MILITAO

If that guy is twenty years old I'm a monkey's uncle.
