If that deal happens, it's nothing short of bizarre, the club keep banging on about wanting to reap the benefits of the clubs academy and then do everything but play them.

Not sure what Bertrand has done so wrong not to be given a fair crack.

And even then, this would basically mean PVA on loan at Vitesse is never going to get a chance either despite recently getting a call up to the Dutch national team.

Does Mourinho ever give youth a chance?

Not unless his hand is completely forced no.

When he came back he and the club were making all the right noises about the development of the team and it looked as though the likes of KDB, Lukaku and Chalobah might be able to be part of the team this season.

Despite a good pre-season for Lukaku and KDB we see Lukaku shipped off on loan and a 32 year old bought in in his place.

KDB is relegated to the fringes of the squad and a 25 year old bought in ahead of him.

Jose has said he thinks players peak from 26 years old and so I just don't think he is willing to have too much youth in his team, regardless of how talented those young players may be.

To be fair to Jose its his first season back and he will want to win as much as he can to settle the board, the players and the fans. Rushing into playing kids would be a massive mistake.

People are still going on about Lukaku going on loan, he needed it. He can barely complete 90 minutes. This needs to change if he is to make it at Chelsea.

KDB has been given a chance this season and has been poor when played.

I honestly think the only "youth" player who should have a grumble is Ryan. He hasnt played badly when actually given the chance but Dave came in when Ryan picked up an injury and has kept his place since.

We do? Who have we got? Cole i think will be gone this summer. JT maybe the next and if Luiz carries on the way he has this season then he will be shown the door also. That leaves Cahill (who is the right replacement for JT), Brana, Dave and Ryan.

We have Bertrand and PVA for Cole, Ivan as he gets more competition from Dave/gets older and slower/when JT leaves will, hopefully, be moved to CB where he belongs and this will accommodate Kane (inb4 not tested/good enough, many said the same about Bertrand and his loan performances weren't as good as Kane's 2 seasons at Blackburn) and Kalas. Then there's Ake who is quite clearly a notch above everyone else his age. As for Luiz, I don't see him leaving myself, unless he forces a transfer, he offers too much to us and I'm sure Jose recognises that despite his faults. He won't be first choice anymore but he'll still be called upon when needed. Even if he were to leave we have a solid international in Omeruo who is more the type of defender Jose likes to have, a bit like Varane at Madrid but obviously not as talented yet.

Part of me thinks the defence was built in such a way that it makes it easier for those players to come through but it was probably just coincidence. Either way the talent is definitely there, that's better depth than most teams to be honest, whether or not it gets used is another question. We certainly don't need any defenders at this moment anyway.

Imo Kane and PVA will leave this summer. I cant even really see Kalas staying since he hasnt had any game time.

As for Luiz i dont think he would be happy being a bench warmer and he clearly is out of favour since Jt and Gary Cahill have started every match since Newcastle.

If Jose keeps on keeping Luiz on the bench he may miss out on the world cup and i dont think he would be best pleased about that.

As for Ake, he is no where to be seen. He hasnt been in the first team, even on the bench for a long time. Again someone i can see leaving in the near future.

Kane and PVA may leave but the would be because the club didn't fancy them/they didn't want to stick around any longer, not because of a lack of talent. It's too soon for Kalas to leave, he must have impressed someone enough for him to be in the squad. That's closer than most of the others have gotten so he should be patient. Were it up to me he would be backup for Dave at RB but oh well, a loan in January will be fine for him.

I would like to think he would handle it professionally, everyone gets benched at some stage. Luiz is an important part of the Brazil squad, him just being in the squad is good for team morale. Luiz, Dante and Silva's spots are pretty much secure. It's up to the likes of Marquinhos and Miranda to fight for the last CB spot.

Ake is 18, he's doing what he was doing last season; playing for the Under 21's knowing that he would be the first player brought into the first team squad should he be needed.

The Guardian says we are considering a £13m bid for St Etienne's defender Kurt Zouma who is currently half way through serving a 10-match domestic ban after his leg breaking tackle on Thomas Guerbert.

10 game ban??? I don't even think it was a foul!

It was unfortunate the guy broke his leg but I don't think it is worthy of a 10 game ban at all, especially as he actually won the ball the attackers standing leg just gets caught in the turf.

I agree but it seems like a massive waste of money to spend 40 odd million on him. Unless we exchange KDB and sell another one of our attacking mids or something. Even then there isn't much point!
