They have plenty of 50m+ players that they can fleece out of clubs. Higuain, Costa, Sandro, Pjanic, Dybala are the ones off the top of my head. I'll believe when he signs the contract and poses with the shirt

Rumor is City are buying Jorginho for 43m. Steal for them. They won't KDB won't be so crucial for them and more importantly they can use him if they want to rest a CM. I thought their CM options were pretty poor

I’m trying to not worry too much, their squad was already so far ahead of ours. The gap is widening even further with Laporte and Jorginho already signed up. Basically they are in a different league right now so I’m not even considering them a rival tbh. Our battle is with arsenal and spurs and Liverpool really. Although Liverpool have bought an impressive new midfield duo now as well!

The media never seem to question the billions spent by city though, which is mighty annoying, considering the abuse we got back in the day. Also there is no questions about not giving their youth a look in either. And now we pretty much have to sell to buy every year. With the current set up of state owned city against FFP abiding Chelsea, we don’t stand a chance aside from freak years like conte’s first season. Harsh but true.

I hope that Sarri is tasked with developing a brand new attacking identity at the club that will integrate and benefit our youth system for years to come.

Time to go another direction as Ballack recently stated. City and Utd basically hoover up all the top talent keen on a switch to the premier league. No point wasting our money on inferior players like last year - may as well develop our own and see where it takes us.

 

 

Agree that City are in their own league now. Give Sarri time to build and attacking brand of football with top 4 and possibly a cup win as his main targets.

Not being funny, but I've never heard of him? Football inflation gone mad, we bought football noneties like Baka and Drinkwater for 30/40m now we doing but paying 70m

You didn't watch Juve in the CL?

@Deino I don't think anyone at the club watches Juve in the UCL. If we did they would have seen how awful Bakayoko was against them for Monaco about a month before we bought him.

Certainly not a 'nonety'. World class signings like this are needed in the middle f the park.  

There are three genuine top quality midfielders on the market this summer, Pjanic is one of them. But this is a pipe dream. We are no longer interested in that tier of players.

Apart from the fabulous ode to the smiths, Pjanic is a fabulous player, just wish some of these 'Newbies' did some research before posting,  actually being truthful Chelsea apart from the money is a backward step in his career atm....

meh, if you consider winning in a weaker league where you're playing for the overwhelming favorite better than playing for the most successful English team in the last 15 years in a superior and much more competitive league, sure... not certain I agree though. If you mean missing out on CL, yeah that would be a temporary step back although I feel confident we'll be back-in next year if we back sarri with some quality signings.

Having said all that, pjanic is a fabulous player and I'd love to have him at Chelsea

Sigh... sad to admit it but you're right. I've wanted us to sign him since he played at Lyon. But it's not happening. I imagine he is angling for a better contract.

Hope we stop signing expensive central defenders, we are overloaded with them, especially if we switch to a 4 defenders system. Goals we where we need to spend money, whether they come from midfield or the front line

Rumours about Kovacic wants out, his release clause is 50m. We're stacked in that department as well though.

If all things considered, we only really need to upgrade on the RW because Pedro is basically at the end of his career at top level and Willian is hit and miss.

CF or Striker position will depend on Sarri's preference at the end of the day but looking for one in this market that ticks every box is nearly impossible without spending loads of money

Unless the club can ship Drinkwater and Bakayoko out quick enough and get 1 good midfield signing, sure, I'd be all for a midfield signing. I just don't want another repeat of a Bakayoko/Drinkwater-type signing again. No more deadline, plan E signings.
