In the Bundesliga though it's not exactly packed with overwhelming talent or high standards is it?

Defending is terrible.

Outwith Bayern it's really nothing special at all.

Willian can't score even in an open net.

There was a defender on the line so wasn't an 'open net'

Bundesliga might not be as good quality wise as the PL but it's not exactly akin to the Norwegian league or something. Doing well in that league is pretty impressive really and I don't think it's all that fair to try and falsify his stats down by making a (misinformed) statement / comment which pertain to the supposed low quality of the league (indirect or direct)

Perhaps at the end of the day it's just best to watch him and see what kind of system he thrives in, how much emphasis is placed on him by the team, how exactly he scores the kind of goals (whether it be though poor defending or technical prowess / team ability to score them)

I personally don't see how we can say the German league is a weak league compared to the Premier League. I have always been someone who defends the Premier League but with the way English sides have been performing in Europe in the last couple of years can we really say we are a better league than the German league ? i don't think so. At most i would say we are level with them but i don't think we are ahead right now.

Bundesliga just has a more open style of play than any other major league. It's fairly rare to see a "parked bus", which might be why Bayern win so many matches by 2-3 goals.

The Bundesliga also has an unparalleled record in the Champions League recently, qualifying all 4 clubs for the knockout rounds for the past 2 seasons (and 3 of 4 the season before). So to suggest that it's a devoid of talent outside of Bayern is ludicrous.

Wolfsburg are playing the way BVB had so much success, fast-attacking and aggressive, high pressure. Fun to watch, but I'm interested to see how they do against CL competition next season.

You'd be surprised how tough the German league is. Almost all teams exclusively use pressing and high energy tactics--basically mixing the physical side of things with technical. Bayern is just a tier above competition, but there is a reason as to why Dortmund was flirting with relegation.

I think the only thing holding the Bundesliga is the money aspect of the game. If Schalke, Leverkusen, or Wolfsburg had strong financial backing, they could easily compete with Bayern--even presently, Bayern's wins aren't just a formality, they have to sweat for those wins.

And as Thacker said, packing the box and defending is rare, teams generally prefer to attack and entertain. I would say Lucien Favre's Gladbach team may be the only team that ephasize defending and a strong counter-attacking game.

Again Andrei Vorinon and Claudio Pizarro were prolific in the Bundesliga, I know the standards in the EPL have dropped but our league is still far far more competitive than Germany's.

I don't think those are good examples. It's not indicative of what you should expect, basically N=1. In any case, several other Bundesliga stars have succeeded in the PL such as Ballack, Kompany, Berbatov, Lehmann etc.

So the failings of Voronin and Pizarro shouldn't also be an indicator that the Bundesliga is weak or uncompetitive. Who's to say if Englishmen were to play football abroad, they'd succeed. Maybe they'd fail the same way Pizarro and other players have. Can't think of too many examples but other than Beckham--Michael Owen, Mcmanaman, and Woodgate could be considered flops (Woodgate certainly a failure). Should this mean that the EPL lacks competitiveness or is weak?

As for competitiveness, I'd have to argue against that. In the top leagues, the Bundesliga is definitely number 1 in competitiveness. I base competitiveness on how difficult it is to predict matches, obviously this makes it difficult for bookies since it's such an even league.

Not to diverge from the conversation, but I'd say the premier league's competitiveness probably stems from how badly the league has regressed.

English teams have given up on defending, which was probably what made them so successful in the Noughties, general midfield play is second-rate (compared to La Liga and Bundesliga), and money and wages are spent on substandard talent instead of smart investments. An example, City spending 32mil on Bony when they could have signed a solid midfielder.

As of now, we're probably the only team in this league that can go toe-to-toe with the likes of Bayern and Madrid, thanks to a tactician like Mourinho of course. But to say "going toe-to-toe" is probably being generous. The case is that we'd be forced to play on the counter and focus more on the defensive side of things to handle these sides as we would not be able to match them on the attacking component.

Very difficult to compare. Different tactics, different role, different responsibilities. We know he is a good player. Would he have been a good fit in our team both in terms of personality and playing style? Jose thought otherwise, I don't know.

However, it is completely ridiculous to attribute his form to the league and belittle the Bundesliga (you will see a million contradictions if you think about it. For example, how do you explain the Salah situation? His numbers are also better than most in the Bayern team.). While Bayern are the best team, the entire league as a whole outperforms the EPL every year. Take Chelsea out of the EPL and put Bayern in its place and Bayern will walk the EPL. I'd like to see an English team beat Atletico like Leverkusen just did.

As i said, it is clear enough that these comparisons and hypothetical situations are confusing enough as they stand. The least thought out explanation is to talk up the superiority of one league.

Too many ignorant post about the BuLi when I can bet more than half haven't watch a proper game[emoji58]

Guess more than half the German NT couldn't get a game in the PL, weird ain't it?[emoji28]
