Kevin De Bruyne

Featured Replies

Gutted as I rate de Bruyne highly and would loved to see him get more chances but for once a good bit of business for the club and I wish the Lad well.

I don't think KDB's ability or potential is under too much question; this transfer is a huge outlay for Wolfsburg.

It seems the transfer is more about rebalancing the squad. KDB is competing with Oscar (21), Schurrle (23), Hazard (23), Mata (25) and Willian (25). Meanwhile, our central midfielders are Ramires (26), Mikel (26), Essien (31) and Lampard (35). The average age of our forwards is 23.4; compared with 29.5 for our midfield. We could maintain this forward line-up for several years without requiring a major transfer. However, Essien (whose contract expires in 2015) and Lampard will (sadly) need to be replaced in the much nearer future.

I am not saying he had a poor attitude, what I am saying is if he was really as good as some made out he would have had more opportunities.

simply the wrong place at the wrong time…best of luck to him

Marko Van Ginkel

Marco will need at least two seasons to develop. We need someone ready to dominate next season.

Nemanja Matic

Marko Van Ginkel

I don't know very much about Matic since I haven't been watching Benfica. But from his stats and what I've read, it seems like Ramires, Van Ginkel and Matic could be a well balanced midfield three. Matic more defensive and playing from deep; Ramires with his athleticism and speed on the break; and Van Ginkel linking up with the forwards. I must avoid getting over excited, though - Van Ginkel is still young and will likely need time to recover from an awful injury, while Matic hasn't been confirmed, yet!

Although it's disappointing to lose KDB, if it enables Matic to rejoin I think that we'll be stronger moving forwards.

KDB is undergoing his medical in Wolfsburg and will sign a contract until 2019, say Sky Sports News Deutschland.

I'm hoping there's a buy-back clause involved because from what I saw in the Bundesliga last year KDB could become a quality player. To be honest, he was never going to become that at Chelsea given the competition and more signficantly his seemingly lacklustre attitude. It'll be interesting to see what happens once he establishes himself at Wolfsburg and get his next big move to Dortmund/Munich etc. Will he be mature enough to hack it at a big club then?

The deal was always going to be sanctioned after we signed Matic, we buy before we sell so as not to leave ourselves short.

Majority of the team it works out well but sometimes I think it can be a hindrance, the pursuit of Rooney this summer meant that we didn't end up addressing the strikers until very late in the window.

Sigh. What a waste of a great prospect.

We have better prospects.

I'm glad it happened. This way he gets to play and I'll get to see him at the World Cup. Belgium will be my 2nd team so I'm looking forward to seeing all the Belgian lads link up together. Plus we get a tidy profit which will help reimburse possibly the signing of the season for us (Matic).

Win-Win.

I don't think he got a fair shot but then again Mourinho is rarely wrong. He may be this time who knows, no one is perfect but would have liked to have seen him more to judge for myself!

I'm disappointed to lose Kevin, because I believe he has enormous potential...but when you look at it this way...who the hell is he going to displace?

He's not as good as Oscar or Hazard (2 of the best in the world in their positions), he's not as good as Mata, Willian or Schurrle. There's no spot for him, and won't be for a long time assuming we can hold onto our players. They're all still young. Then we have Piazon and Bertrand Traore who are younger and could be the next brigade.

So as good as Kevin is, and has the potential to be, it doesn't exactly leave a gaping hole in our team. Hopefully there are some clauses we inserted (either buy back, or at least a sell on fee %), but who knows?

We made a profit off a player who has played almost no games for us, and we still have amazing depth in our attacking midfield stocks.

Personally I will be much more upset if we lose Courtois.

Summed up perfectly cam, its a shame to see him go but it does make sense financially and for the player himself. Its going to be interesting watching his career develop, but selling him has enabled us to fill in a gap that we had in the squad, and this is now the reaility at chelsea that we may have to sell to buy.

I was one of those who was reluctant to see Cech leave, but I really think Courtois needs to step into his shoes. He really is a decent keeper and could be one of the best. I would be devastated to lose him. Same with Cech, but at least there's some logic behind Cech leaving.

Not in a money sense, but in a squad list sense. I don't think we had any open foreign slots in our squad without selling someone.

I was more disappointed about Sturridge going to be honest. We have lots of AM's and they are all better than KDB. I hope he does well where ever he goes unless it's against us.

Along, no doubt, with many others I saw him play at Stamford Bridge for Genk in the CL. He looked a prospect but has he developed enough to be challenging to become a first tem regular ? It seems not.

Chelsea are now operating a very clever business model, its not one we thought up ourselves clubs in Portugal for instance have been operating it for quite a while. Its a very simple one you sign a lot of young players with potential and loan them out to see if they develop. Some will make the grade many wont but not only is this project more than self financing. For instance if we paid £6 million for KDB on a 5 year contract and have now sold him for £17 million in accounting terms his book value being £3.6 million in the accounts that's a £13.4 million profit

Looking at the number of players we have out on loan, all bought and paid for some like Lukaka we know about so itsworth focusing on him.

Playing at first WBA and now Everton Lukakas value has grown.

Forget the rumours that we paid £20 million for him informed reports are that we paid £10 million and that with add ons it could rise to £17 million so say today we were to sell him what would be his value? £25-£30 million. Or how about Courtois, or what aboutEtsu?

If you can sell a player a year under this sort of process every year and make a £10 million profit it really is good business. You would have to go some way to secure a sponsorship deal to match this sort of income and in truth its only through player dealings that the likes of Spurs and indeed Arsenal have declared much of their profits

Problem is that us fans think thay all these young players will eventually be playing for us - when in fact they are just transfer fodder so we can make some profit for the real transfers.

Do you think young players will soon catch on? Or will they continue to buy into the "the dream"?

Alas the truth is that players in the professional game have always been seem as assets. I am not saying that when we buy a player the sole aim is to sell him on for a profit as I would like to think that we will in time be able to see a significant number of our squad coming either through our academy or maybe through the route I talk about in my earlier post

The dream will always remain for young players will always believe they are special, have the talent or whatever.
