Many of you won't agree with mine but it's Torres. He was the only real striker they were ever going to play and there was never any doubt they were going to create chances. I hoped and sort of expected that he'd finish with about 6-8 goals, be the main focal point of the Spanish team and come back absoloutley buzzing for next season. In reality he won the golden boot (by default) and struggled to get in their starting line-up, with Del Bosque preferring to play with no strikers.

I hope the overall win and the fact that he did get the golden boot will give him enough of a lift but I'm very worried that next season will be similar to the last for Torres.

I will add that I wanted us to buy him, I was glad that we bought him and I'm not looking for negatives in everything he does, some of his play was very very good.

To be honest I think he did well to even get that much. If he had played in a team like Italy he would quite easily have racked up 6-8 goals. He went through spells of the game where they wouldn't even pass the ball to him or play him in behind (When he did get it it was on the wings), with the amount of talented passers they have they could quite easily have played him in far more often.

Fabregas fitted the team better, played in a similar role for Barca as well, was nothing to do with Torres ability. That's just how they play. You could look at it that way but you could also look at it in the sense that when Del Bosque wanted to be slightly more direct and get goals he relied on Torres as opposed to their other strikers like Llorente who had a much better season than Torres.

Although having said that...

I think Cech was worse actually. Edited by Remodez

Barn: David Villa scored 4 goals last euro and 5 (?) goals last Worlds. It's extremely rare to see strikers get more than 4-5 goals, especially with Spain's style of playing (12 of the last 15 matches has ended with 1-0) in big tournaments.

I was frustrated with Torres' constant drifting to the wings too, I can't remember him doing that at Liverpool - did we start that by playing him out there? Or maybe he's just adapted his game... whatever, I'm not an expert...! Probably being too critical considering the minutes he played and Spain's style.

Considering when he was on he was the loan striker that does give me some confidence for next season. If he's not buzzing after the CL & Euro win then he never will be. We'll see how Hazard supports him - Mata will always give him the ball, just hope he takes his chances (well to be fair his goal to game ratio wasn't bad).

Saying that he wasn't any where near my biggest disappointment - I expected as much from Rooney (i.e averageness) but thought RVP was atrocious. The got will find his form ready for the Premier League season though I'm sure...!

Rooney by a country mile - though to be honest, I wasn't disappointed at all as I knew he'd be sh*te from the beginning. Same goes for Ashley Young, the useless diving c*nt.

I agree with BlueBeard. Rooney hasn't done anything for England since 04, and the media building up Rooney as their talisman was just ridiculous.

Benzema, Robben (plus the rest of the Holland squad) etc etc are all players who failed massively when you think of the expectations before the tournament.

Gem: Torres has always drifted to the sides. From there he can cut inside or run the channels towards goal (and not away from goal) whilst stretching the oppositions back four, making him much more dangerous than if he just ran vertically.

Ah right, cheers for that [and Andreas] I always tried/try my best not to watch Liverpool ;)

Rooney or Young, Young mainly because he was our best player in the 2 friendlies prior to the tournament then utter gash once it started.

Podolski. Absolute garbage from a 27 year old who's typically one of our strongest performers.

Have to second this. Podolski is usually one of our staples when it comes to International play and he was just anonymous.

I expect better of him in the future... Internationally speaking of course.

Hummels of Germany is my choice. The way he was beaten like a drum twice in the semis was shocking.

No way, he was quality in all the other games!

I can only add to the calls for Young. He was truly terrible - how he was still on the pitch to take a penalty is beyond me. Other than that I think Kerzhakov was awful (spray gun finishing), and old Arjen was extremely good at just cutting inside and cocking shots up.
