Clint Dempsey

Featured Replies

Why not Clint Dempsey, he can play opposite Hazard on the wing, he's a proven goal scorer.

I have a obvious bias because as an American but I just got a gut feeling about this guy, he's just always in the right place at the right time, he's a fierce competitior.

And while he's not going to be a huge financial boon as say Park Ji Sung for Manchester United in terms of shirts, sponsorships, merchandise, whatever, I still think it's important to get a foothold in the US market.

Manchester United already own asia, maybe it's time Chelsea started looking towards the good ole' US of A for some growth potential. We have the success, we have the big names, we have interesting personalities like Luiz. Let's get Dempsey then maybe we can become Americas team.

I guess it would've been perfect if we had bought Clint Dempsey around the time we got Hazard and took him with us in the upcoming US tour but it's still not too late!

No way José. Not even close to being good enough. Signing him would also be harsh on the younger players that play in similar positions... When you're a top top club you can't go singing average players from down the road.

I'll try not to say much, since I am also a biased American, but I could see him being a good player to add to the squad. That being said, something about these high-profile American players makes the selling club overprice them; I have a feeling that Fulham would want 15m, and that is probably too much.

I will say that I was very in favor of signing him last January. We couldn't score anything and some of our boys seemed to be showing a lack of desire in the league matches. Dempsey would be one of those nice guys to have on a cold night in Stoke, and his strike rate last year was pretty great (23 in all competitions). He's not going to dribble around everybody, but even if it's not always pretty, he gets the job done.

Obviously now that we are CL winners and are buying in the summer and not the winter, we have many more options. We won't be interested in him, which is fine, but if somehow we did buy him, at least it would stop him from scoring equalizers against us every season.

To be honest, it's not a bad shout. But I would see signing Dempsey as something we would do in a January window, if we were heavily depleted or struggling for form in attacking positions. Maybe not now due to where the club seems to be headed, but still a very decent player.

If Dempsey's brought in, it should be as a striker. At Fulham, Dempsey has played the vast majority of his games either as a left sided midfielder who drifts in to the center of the pitch or as a striker. He's really not a fit for the right side at all.

Amazing how we're linked with some fantastic players (Fellani, Dempsey, even Moses) that people instantly disregard because they play for teams lower than us in the league and are over the age of 21.

Last season Dempsey got 23 goals for Fulham and is still the right side of 30, I don't understand why people don't think he couldn't do a job for us...

Because we arent Liverpool, We are Chelsea and we can afford the worlds top players, why shop in primark when you can splash the cash in Harrods.

I have nothing against Dempsey, i would rather him than Moses but Dempsey is the main man at Fulham so i think thats why he has that amount of goals, at Chelsea he wouldnt be, i dont think he would get half that amount becuase there are so many attacking players all looking to smash the ball in the back of the net.

Kitierkatba makes some good points tbh. Our American fan base would definitely increase. He is a quality player (and I don't think anyone can really dispute this). He wants to move. He is in the last year of his contract so the fee would likely be low-ish. Were it not for the fact that he would be thirty before the start of the season I would be screaming for his signature.

Alas, he is that old and his signing would not help with bringing through youth (it is hard enough for them already), + I'm not really sure where he would fit into the team.... I don't think he would work in a deep role, and our central and left sided attacking positions are pretty much spoken for. But I'm a big fan and if we signed him (for the right price) I would be pretty happy!

And is this actually a rumour or just something that has been suggested? I've not heard anything.

well i disregard moses because i dont think hes very good. it has nothing to do with him playing for wigan, id kill an infant, in front of its own mother, if it would mean chelsea would sign fellaini.

a wigan fan told me he cant wait to see which club will be suckered in into offering more than 5M for moses, so he can laugh at them

Hes not worth £30m and playing outside of England so some people will disregard him immediately. I would love to see us sign him, he would give us something different to be able to call on, though I`m not sure he would come to us knowing he would be a reserve or only play in certain games. very similar to when Utd signed Sheringham.

  • 4 weeks later...

It appears he's trying to force through a move to Liverpool, despite the fact they have Borini, Suarez, Bellamy and Carroll.

Looks like Carroll's off but even so, he knows he won't be playing every week.

I think he's a very good player and I like his attitude.

If we ever buy a player from Fulham it should be Moussa Dembele, hopefully next season imo he is so underrated.I like Dempsey alot but he is 29 and i think would struggle to get into our side.

We could've used Dempsey in January but that window has passed and he is no longer needed with the recent additions.

Great attitude, versatile and he gets goals. Coming to a big club I dont think he would mind being a squad player and sitting on the bench a bit. Would be a great signing if it wer eto come through however I don't see him going anywhere but liverpool

More interested in Frei to be honest.
