I had an argument on Youtube the other day with someone who still thinks that Torres poor performances and lack of goals was down to Chelsea style of play and not Torres fault. Yes ladies and gentlemen there are still some of those people out there, actually hurts my brain.

I feel sorry for Torres as I haven't seen a player decline so rapidly within a few years than he has. He was absolute quality with the Scousers early on but the signs of his decline were emerging in mid-2010 during the World Cup in South Africa.

I always hoped he would find his goalscoring touch again but it's a pity that he never did and he's fallen away badly ever since then. Despite his limited success at the club, I always backed him and hoped he would prove us wrong.

Sadly, I've reached the conclusion that he's finished. I know some came to that conclusion a while ago but a change with AC Milan has proven that he's nearly towards the end now as he's still struggling to find the net. His pace was his biggest asset and with that slowly disappearing, his technical ability which was always weak by covered by his pace is now being exposed for what it is.

Michael Owen's career path follows a similar trajectory - ultra-quick but injury prone star striker who slowly declined after his mid-20's as his pace receded (although he adapted his game a little better than Torres managed to).

If I was him, I'd just head to the Middle East or China for one last payday before calling it quits, but I suppose he has to consider the ramifications for his family.

Yes exactly, he's just finished.

Hes only made 5 league appearances this season. I wonder if he will retire soon.

My worry is Milan send him back here

Thats my worry also. Hopefully a contract has been signed and he cant come back.

From what was being said at the time is we actually let him go but due to FFP we called it a two year loan.

He is totally finished, he was when we bought him.

Yeah hopefully there is some written clause or something.

He'd just disrupt our squad and unbalance things if he came back. He must know himself if he can't cut it in Italy then he really is just as well calling it a day.

Bar that headed goal he's done ziltch since he moved there.

I doubt he will get a move else where. You would think that after his two years in Italy (there is no way they will sign him up for the 3rd year) he will have to retire because I doubt he will get another team.

Milan signed him for 2 seasons, they have financially committed to paying him wages for two years. Thats already a sunken cost, sending him back wont change anything, they will still have to pay his wages. Milan arent in a position were they can ship a player out that they still pay huge money for, its not going to happen.

He'll more than likely go to America when his loan spell at Milan ends.

I dont even see many American teams wanting him. The standard in America is really picking up and Torres wont even look good over there.

I think if he did keep playing it would more likely be the indian league they they are doing or Dubai. No big league.

He's a shirt seller, he'd be an icon in the US.

Money I suspect won't be a problem if he decides to chuck it though, he's a multi millionare now.

He isnt the big name in football that he use to be. In two years time he wont be the big name signing that everyone will want on the back on their shirts. I would think most people will be thinking "why on earth have we signed him?!"

He's not been for a while but he was still one of the top shirt names sold in Europe.

Because of the World cup, European Championship and CL win with us he kept that going.

I still think he would shift the most shirts there if he went to the US.

He's finished at the top level for sure but he's still very marketable.

Great comparison but even Owen was a more serviceable player in his later years than Torres is these days.

It's sad to watch how a once great player has declined so much into oblivion. I always hoped he would turn it around but I've given up on that ever happening.

Owen was still a really good player, he just couldnt stay injury free long enough to get in a rhythm. If he had played as much as Torres did for us, his goal scoring record would be miles better

I wouldnt feel too sorry for someone who gets paid more a week for than you do in a couple of years.

Im sure Torres copes just fine. If he has a bad day im sure he logs on to his online banking and checks out how much money he has in his bank account and that would cheer anyone up!

Its pretty bad that the owner is telling the manager to play him. The manager probably knows that Torres is a dead donkey and actually holds back the team but is now being told to play him.

Sounds like when Robbie was in charge of us.

Thing is Milans other forwards are not any better.

Milan are mugs for taking a player at that wage and not playing him, no wonder they are in serious debt.

They also set themselves up for it by saying he was great in training and breaking medical records (That was the manager, so it's not exactly the owner forcing them....)
