No comparison to Bogarde whatsoever and not the same as Malouda either. The club had what they called a very reasonable offer from another club which he turned down. Not blaming him but Torres is still wanted (as far as I can tell).

How do you know he is wanted. Lets be honest the club cant really turn around and say "we bought a dud and he is so sh*t we cant even move him on". They will big him up in the hope that either someone buys him or if we are forced to keep him it will keep his confidence up.

When paying someone 175k a week you cant just tell him to go and train with the under 21's.

Well what you are saying may well be right but the fact jose said he wants to keep him for the coming season means there is more evidence that he is still wanted than there is that he isn't wanted.

But as I said, what else can Jose say? If we cant sell him then everyone at the club would have to say we still want him at the club.

They can say hes not in the plans for the club and he wont be playing. Whats the worst thats going to happen? Are you saying all the suitors lining up for his services might be scared off? If hes told hes not wanted he might actually actively help trying to find a new club. Highly doubt that will happen though, we made a commitment to him and we will have to see that contract out. Honestly I cant blame Torres at all, I would have done exactly the same.

But then other clubs who may be tempted will hold all the power. If we say he is in our plans and another club come in and say we would like to take him for the season on loan then we can negotiate but if we say he is not in our plans then we have nothing.

Its all games being played.

I mean really, do you honestly think that anyone at the club thinks that Torres is a good option?

Yes. Jose considering he played him more than ba last season. I'm sure jose would like to keep him as 3rd choice striker. Let's just see what happens its all speculation at the minute nothing concrete has been said or done

LoL other clubs already hold all the power. Theres no possible way they could any more power over us with that humongous deal we gave him.

Why in a business like the Club is, there isnt performance based boosters in the contracts ill never know. Lower base pay, but if you're banging them in or playing so many minutes then big bonuses.

How do we know that this isn't the case?

The press reports it & we lap it up.

Lets just say it wouldn't surprise me if the fortunes that the press reports are what a player could earn should they hit all their bonuses

example:

Torres is reportedly on £175k a week

Who knows if thats not made up of basic salary, goal bonus, win bonus, silverware bonus, final league postion bonus?

As I said none of us know.

I don't think many of us have would have seen a professional footballers employment contract. Would be an interesting read that's for sure. I'm there are some performance based elements within the remuneration but it doesn't take a genius to see that Torres isn't performing well but still gets paid a sh*teload.

He's going to be staying for the remainder of his contract too, it seems. That's his wages, Fabregas' wages and Costa's wages. Gonna go through the roof.

Not really.

We have just said goodbye to Lampard and Cole who were two of our highest earners. Luiz and Eto'o I presume were on a fair bit too so I guess we are no worse off than we were last season.

Chelsea is better off now. Wages saved by Lampard, Cole, Eto'o must be accounted for around 400 thou a week alone. That should cover Costa & Cesc easily. Soon others are going to make room for more signings.

I don't get why we have sold/loaned out our good players and Torres is still here.

No ones probably willing to give Torres the wages we are and Torres most likely won't leave until his contracts up as he doesn't want to drop his wages. Outside of a generous loan deal from us to another club we're stuck with him. Also I don't recall any rumours of anyone even wanting him.

A number of reasons. No one else will buy him and pay him the wages that we pay and he cost 50 million so the club wanted to try everything to make it work out. I do believe though that everyone has finally realised that its Torres thats the problem and thats why we have signed Costa.

Torres will be with us this season and probably the next also. I can not see anyone even really wanting to loan him because even if we picked up part of the wages it will still be too much for a player that is well past his best.

We haven't signed Costa yet!
