June 17, 201313 yr Just when you thought Microsoft couldn't possibly pull out anything else from their bag of tricks... This is just getting silly now.
June 17, 201313 yr Your account only gets banned if you pirate games. right? Good reason not to pirate games on a console.
June 18, 201313 yr You can get banned for a number of reasons, some innocuous. Major Nelson has now come out and said that a ban won't lock access from offline games, contradicting the Xbox Support twitter account.
June 18, 201313 yr Your account only gets banned if you pirate games. right? Good reason not to pirate games on a console. I had my 360 flashed for 2 years and had about 30 various downloaded games, which I played online (when I was into gaming, mainly shooters). I got banned just before COD 2/3 came out a few Christmas's ago when they did the mass banning over one weekend. My Xbox itself was banned by the serial number, I could still play my games, just never online again with that specific Xbox. My profile was still active - meaning I could buy a new xbox, download my profile and start over. I didn't bother. I think you misunderstand. You have to connect your xbox to the internet to play it. Once you've connected it to the internet you have 24 hours where you can keep playing without the internet before you have to reconnect it to the internet. I preferred the PS3 to the Xbox, but sold it when I was made homeless for a while, since then I bought an Xbox because that's what my mates have. Out of the two, the PS3 was a better machine with better games, crashed less and had better features and hardware. The Xbox has better online, but you have to pay for it. This time, I'm going for PS4 I reckon. I was willing to go either way depending on what was announced, but everything so far points to the PS4 for me. That makes more sense, but its still a ridiculous control, farcical really!! I hate that the camera / voice activation could be used as a tool against us - we have no idea what its capable of, it makes me a little uneasy to be honest. Does the level of upgrade from 360 to 'one' justify £430? No. Does the level of upgrade from PS3 to PS4 justify £350? No. Been thinking about this a fair bit and have decided that you'd have to be a bit mad to pay that much for what is essentially better graphics. GTA IV will be out on the 360, so that should keep me going until the price for the new consoles becomes reasonable. For me that's another issue - the jump between the original xbox + ps2 to 360 / ps3 was incredible. From what I have seen so far it really doesn't look that much better to me.. I just don't see the wow factor yet. Edited June 18, 201313 yr by Zola
June 19, 201313 yr Looks like Xbox are taking a U turn with their used game & internet access restrictions! Xbox180 is the number 1 trend on twitter haha. http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2013/06/xbox-one-drm/ You have to give them credit for listening to the fans, but they were completely ridiculous policies in the 1st place. And here's the official 'we were idiots and we're sorry' page. http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/update Edited June 19, 201313 yr by AdamCFC
June 19, 201313 yr I think I would reconsider if you could buy it without the f**king kinect bollocks.
June 19, 201313 yr Author New Coke all over again. They release it with a ball and chain wrapped around it so no-one would ever buy it, then reverse the decision so they can keep smaller restrictions on and no-one will care because they got rid of the larger ones which they used as a smokescreen, and people will be so happy that they removed them that they'll rush out and buy it.
June 19, 201313 yr Exactly what I was thinking, I wondered if this was the strategy all as long because surely they coulddnt be that stupid.
June 19, 201313 yr Microsoft can bolt, what a let down the announcement was and E3 was, Sony destroyed them, the online polls are now hugely in Sonys favour for sales, not sure what Microsoft can do to save it, and the change in policies doesn't cut it for me, there exclusives were also below par in my opinion
June 20, 201313 yr Looks like my son is getting the PS4 instead of the Xbox One. And I'll have to purchase one for myself of course. I need to test the system to ensure his gaming safety while playing online... Yup, that's the reason I'm sticking with. It has nothing to do with the fact that the PS4 looks kick ass. Not at all.
June 20, 201313 yr What an embarrassing climbdown for Microsoft! Still, the PS4 is nearly £100 cheaper so despite the back-peddling i'm still getting the PS4.
June 20, 201313 yr What an embarrassing climbdown for Microsoft! Still, the PS4 is nearly £100 cheaper so despite the back-peddling i'm still getting the PS4. For now, I wouldnt be surprised if the next 180 by MS is to stop people having to buy Kinect as part of it. Knocks £100 off immediately.
June 20, 201313 yr Makes you wonder, if only 1 week after the biggest games conference where Microsoft clarified most these policies they completely abandon them. What was the justification for wanting to implement them in the first place besides corporate greed? Sony bent them over by not following suit and as a result for every 2 Xbox Ones pre-ordered in the USA 3 PS4's were being pre-ordered. Seeing as North America is their primary market it was pretty embarrassing for Microsoft and now they are doing some serious back peddling to try and fix the mess they've made.
June 20, 201313 yr I`m actually a bit disappointed they back tracked so far, as it seems the family sharing of games thing will now be done away with, as will cloud gaming meaning the only way to play or share games will still be through a physical medium. Digital gaming is the future, we have now gone backwards because of a few twitchy arses.
June 20, 201313 yr Rather embarrassing from Microsoft, but I agree that it could have been a strategy all along! I still don't like the fact that its voice activated / has the ability to record what you say in your own house...There is an inherent risk that it has the ability to record you, upload footage to some server that can be accessed later. Far fetched perhaps, but would it honestly surprise you, given the NSA controversy with mass phone listening etc?? Tin Foil hat or not, what would George Orwell have to say about this? :) Edited June 20, 201313 yr by Zola
June 20, 201313 yr For now, I wouldnt be surprised if the next 180 by MS is to stop people having to buy Kinect as part of it. Knocks £100 off immediately. Nah i think Kinect is here to stay. The thing is, since I'm an 'Xboxer', i'd quite happily buy the Xbox One now, if only they lowered the price. But they won't, I think that's one thing they won't change now. So PS4 it is.
June 20, 201313 yr Is the price difference really that bad where most of you are? I know its a 100 dollars in the state but over here the PS4 is 3,900 SEK and the Box is 4.500SEK. Not that huge here, still I don't like the whole kinect sh*t and im getting a ps4, sucks that I will be missing out on Quantum Break, Halo etc
June 20, 201313 yr ...sucks that I will be missing out on Quantum Break, Halo etc Never understood the hype around Halo. What makes it special in its genre? I've always thought first person shooters are a bit boring, but I can usually see why a game is popular. GTA series for example... I can see the appeal, even if it's not a game for me. I've never understood what makes any of the Halo games anything special.

For example a years Live membership and a couple of games and the Xbox One will cost you over £500 on it's launch which is a massive investment, especially half it's features won't work outside of North America initially.

The original Halo games were outstanding and the online for them was very good as well it wasn't just your regular FPS. However, they're just milking it now.
June 20, 201313 yr The Halo campaigns were rather epic - really cool video scenes etc, it was like a big movie saga. I wasnt fond of the online multiplayers though really. I loved Halo 1's "Blood Gulch" map, simple shoot em up, great fun. As the series went on it got too vast and I lost interest in it. Edited June 20, 201313 yr by Zola
June 20, 201313 yr Halo 2 was amazing, best Halo game and the multiplayer was awesome, especially if you were a bit competative and had a few mates you played with regulary. The campaigns been rather good as well but mainly bought it for the online stuff.
June 20, 201313 yr Agree with all of the above, much better than any COD games for me. The last one was fantastic too, really enjoyed it.
June 20, 201313 yr I can't believe people still play COD. When you've played battlefield there's no going back.
