Next generation consoles

Featured Replies

Been thinking and will definitely get a PS4.

Only problem will be the controller, I have never ever liked the joysticks being on the same sort of level so will take some time getting used too.

The adjacent analog sticks just feel plain wrong, even as a former PS one user who transitioned to the 360.

I'm an Xbox man but I've gotta say I'll be getting the Playstation 4. PS4 just seems better in every way. Microsoft have really screwed up the Xbox One!

Exactly the same as me, I was going to buy the new Xbox but I doubt I will now. But as with you lot I can't stand the ps controller so I don't know if I will even bother with either for quite some time. I wonder how long the 360 will continue to be supported.

Does the level of upgrade from 360 to 'one' justify £430? No.

Does the level of upgrade from PS3 to PS4 justify £350? No.

Been thinking about this a fair bit and have decided that you'd have to be a bit mad to pay that much for what is essentially better graphics.

GTA IV will be out on the 360, so that should keep me going until the price for the new consoles becomes reasonable.

Release in Oct/Nov/Dec for the PS4 so im going to start saving up already, hope it wont be hard to get it at release - I remember chasing down the 360 like a mad man when that one came out.

Definitely think its worth the money, been so many years with this current gen and the launch titles should be great, watch dogs and hopefully the division.

This.

Not to mention the wealth of new titles that will be released for the new consoles. People forget that buying these consoles isn't just a short term purchase. I see it as an investment. We're going to be playing on the new consoles for the next 6 or 7 years. The amount of enjoyment we'll get from new games, better graphics etc is going to be amazing- and all for a one-off payment of £329 for the PS4. That's a lot cheaper than the PS3 was when it was released.

I'm an Xbox man but Microsoft have pushed me to Sony for the first time in my life. I've already decided to buy a PS4, despite the fact that their controller is still a bit sh*te. But I'll persevere :)

My thoughts exactly mate.

I have always been a xbox fan boy, But the way Microsoft are treating us with this new console is terrible. I know for me its the PS4 and most of my xbox mates who only play 360 are also going for the PS4.

If only we could use the xbox controller on the ps4 then that would be perfect! I also hate the controllers Sony make.

You could apply that logic to most things.

Is the transition from the 2012/13 season to the 2013/14 season worth continuing with your Sky Sports Subscription... it's still just the Premier League.

End of the day for me gaming is one of my main hobbies, I don't go out a huge amount, barely drink, don't smoke... So gaming is what I spend some of my spare money on. I've had my PS3 from within 6 months of its launch and I'm excited for a new console with new features such as the new controller with the touch pad feature and the new games that come with it.

If you're quite casual with your playing then I agree, dropping £400 on a new console only to use it a couple of hours a week would be steep but for me, it's a good investment.

Sony has decimated Microsoft in the battle for the next generation.

Before any of the details came out, I was genuinely considering changing to Xbox....but it seems PS4 will be my way forward. Thankfully it's cheaper as well.

Microsoft are clearly going down the multimedia route, which is a shame. Sony's commitment to making a purer gaming console may well tip me in their direction when I do make the transition to the next generation.

Saw a youtube video with some guy arguing that due to the increasing affordability of computer gaming, Xbox are more focussed on creating a multi purpose media hub type console, offering more than just your standard gaming system which I think is a highly plausible idea. Even if the console itself is taken right out of George Orwell's 1984.

No way on earth would i spend over 400 quid on any of the new consoles. when they half in price i may think about it. Until then i will just stick with my xbox 360.

I guess gaming is not your main hobby then. For hermit losers such as ForeverCareFree and myself, we're quite happy to splurge that amount of cash on a new console, knowing that we'll be playing constantly and enjoying what the new gen has to offer :)

I should pull you up on this comment.... But you're not wrong.

Currently own an xbox 360, had a ps2 and ps1 before that. Will probably go to a PS4 next for obvious reasons, however the only game I really play anymore is FIFA and seeing as FIFA 14 will be released on the 360, I probably won't bother getting a ps4 until late next year when FIFA 15 comes out and hopefully the prices have dropped a bit.

I don't nearly play as much as I used to but I find it hard to pass on these sort of things!

FIFA 14 for the current gen is pretty much just like FIFA 13 by the way, the next gen version is another story though!

You could apply that logic to most things.

I was in exactly the same boat as you a few months ago, but have been trying to ween myself off it recentley.

And no joke, just as I was typing that, 2 mates text me to get on Battlefield. Back in 6 hours.  :face_palm:

It's interesting that it's Microsoft who choose the multimedia route. You would have thought Sony would be the one to do it.

They just fail, shooting themselves in the foot.

Didnt expect PS4 to be so much more superior.

Imagine if you have a xbox 1 and the lightning f**ks your internet up for a few days, you wont even be able to play.

I'm like Jonty, I only really play Fifa at the moment. I haven't played my Xbox for a couple of months now and couldn't justify dropping £400 on a new console. If that's what you're into then fair enough and there is no doubt that I will be extremely tempted. The price is pretty reasonable all things considered and they do look fantastic. If I were to sway to one, it would be the PS4.

People shouldn't be put off by the price, like somebody said it's an investment. I've used my Xbox 360 for 7 years and have probably played it around 3500 hours during that time. That's 10p an hour (excluding game + electricity cost). Still very reasonable.

Personally, I'm going to invest money in something else, like perhaps a new bike or saving up for my first car (although a car is a pretty bad investment- especially for a London bachelor).
