Next generation consoles

Most people have a PC though, it's still cheaper to spend a bit more and make it a gaming PC than have a PC and then a seperate system for gaming at several hundred quid.

Of course I have both anyway, but still..

I think most people own either a lap top or tablet now days rather than PC/MAC.

I know I don't own a PC anymore because I have no space for one.

As simple as it is to hook up a PC to your TV most people simply don't know how to do these things and the convenience of consoles will always make it a more appealing choice than PC gaming.

f**k laptops man. And tablets are crap, don't even like the touch screen on my phone, certianly wouldn't want any main computer device to be that crap. Desktop PCs shall not die.

When did X360 come out? 2005? Lasted many many years and will continue to do so and just looking back at the custom PC I bought just 2 years ago, its already out dated.

Next time i'll be picking up a laptop as well, desktop PC's are just not worth it for me anymore.

Also my tablet is one of the best purchases I've done, love it - especially with netflix app.

Me and the wife pretty much only use our computers from internet browsing. I bought her a Kindle Fire HD last Christmas and she loves it, does all her browsing on it, uses it for all of her books and can stream Netflix if she likes. We just have no use for a PC anymore because of the way we use our computers.

Not had a PC for years, barely ever fire up the laptop anymore, more 4 or 5 times this year at most. My browsing is done on either my phone or tablet, which are basically always on. PCs are now either a business or gaming tool, or will be pretty soon. I bet the majority who use it for home stuff will replace a PC with a tablet or laptop, few would replace a PC with a PC to just browse anymore.

The only other console (sort of) coming out is the steambox, and reading the specs on the prototypes they won't be less than a grand.

Managed to get a day one Xbox on simplygames, comes with Fifa free. It better get here on release day.

It better be at least 5.8 times better, or I'm gonna hunt bill gates down and take a pooh on his driveway.

???

Pre ordered my ps4 last week at game. I got it phase 3 so hoping it will be before Christmas. Anyone else pre ordered a ps4?

Can you play xbox 360 games on the new xbox?

I think £430 for the new one is just a little bit too much. I dont play on my 360 as much as i use to so shelling out that amount of cash doesnt seem like good business to me. I will wait for the price to drop. You know one shop will do a mad deal one day early next year to boost a bit of business and i will snap one up then i think.

Nope, no backwards compatibility on launch im afraid. Theres rumours it may happen eventually using cloud gaming.

With the PS4 the PS3 games will become available to download at "reduced prices" some time early next year.

I'll be holding onto my PS3 because I see no reason not to keep playing the games on there, Sony and Microsoft will probably continue to support the current consoles for a couple of years whilst the new ones build up their game libraries.

When anyone comes to sell of their old ones, let us know.  I've never been interested in games consols and fortunately my kids aren't too bothered either - they play with footballs mainly!  That said I do think it's good for them to have the option and the Wii is a bit sh*t these days so in the new year I'll probably pick up a cheapish second hand one for them.

The thought of spending £400 on a games consol that they won't look after anyway fills me with dread!

I am only assuming here but once they have a xbox they wont look twice at the footballs. Thats the story with most kids anyway.

I`ll be looking to sell my Xbox 360 elite once I get the new one. Got Kinect and a few games and an extra controller. Was wanting about £100 or so, but I`m sure i can sort something out if your interested.

Well so far they haven't even been bothered to go round to their mates to play theirs, hopefully they'll only use it sparingly as they have done so far.  In fact if they try any more than that I'll confiscate the bloody thing!

Beyond 2 Souls was good. Also included an example of some PS4 generated footage:

Alright geeks,

I attended the XboxOne tour convention in London yesterday with a mate.

After a quick pint we queued up with the rest of the gaming nerds in the freezing cold, and were eventually let in.

The "warehouse" was divided into sections. We made a beeline for the FIFA 14 section, sat down and started a game.

We only had a few teams to choose from, BVB, Citeh, Spuds, AC Milan, Farca, Real Ronaldo and P$G.

First impressions: the game is very "smooth" on next gen. The players react quicker, the graphics look better- not by much mind you. We played two matches, he won one, I won the other, courtesy of a 35 yard screamer from Ronaldo. I don't know what else to say apart from the players seem cleverer, more prone to track runs and stick out a leg for the ball if they're on the ground.

Overall FIFA 14 is an improvement over on 13.

Next we played Dead Rising 3. It was good fun, plowing through hundreds of zombies with cars, setting them alight with a flamethrower or just caving their heads in with a hammer. However it is a repetitive game, so we moved on rather quickly.

We had a go on Ryse: The Son of Rome. This was a blast, controlling a Roman soldier and fighting barbarians in a Roman arena. Again, graphically, it looked fantastic. The finishing moves were great to watch too- like sticking your sword into the back of the neck of a barbarian after parrying his blow with your shield.

Then we played Kinect Sports. I was impressed by how responsive it was. We played a jet-skiing racing game, where you "steered" the jet ski by holding your hands out in the air as if grasping a handlebar. It responded to minute movements very well. It was good derivative fun but not something I'd buy.

Lastly we tried the multiplayer on Battlefield 4. In terms of graphics it only looked marginally better than BF3. But it ran at 60 FPS and was a fun experience, new levels etc but it's essentially the same game with a few tweaks and a couple of new game modes.

It was all academic since I don't intend to buy an Xbox One: I'm going to get a PS4 because it's a lot cheaper, and that's that. But I was curious to see what the next gen games were like and enjoyed playing them all for the most part. I didn't try the new Forza  since I'm not into racing games but it looked beautiful.

All in all it was a lot of fun. The Xbox One control was VERY comfortable to hold too, I hope the new PS4 controller is as nice.
