I think the thing with Cahill is he is best on the right side of central defense not the left side. Think Conte did a fudge last season with the players he had available.

There is no doubt he is a battler and does not give up, illustrated by the goals he gets after we go behind.

Whether he is vocal enough to be leader is open to question yet he might have been chosen because there is no other obvious alternative.

Good game from Cahill yesterday.  Looked more comfortable and stepped up to take a sure penalty, very confident.  Proper choice for Chelsea captain!

I honestly think he will turn out to be a really good captain of our club.

Can't help but feel let down by him today. Stupid challenge to make and he is a older head so should know better.

Any other team would have got away with that challenge. I'm not blaming Cahill. First game of the season as well. The officials definately have it in for us lately. Didn't let us down at all.

I hope Conte sticks Cahill on the bench for the rest of the season. Rudiger deserves his spot. Couldn't care less that he's the captain. We lost that match because of his stupidity. At least we'll have 3 matches without him.

I'm so so so angry at Cahill. His stupid decision to carry the ball in their half, not pass and follow up with a red card challenge has totally started chain events of disaster.

Had we won, it would've papered over some cracks regarding our squad (I still think we would've addressed our squad anyway) but in our situation, we desperately need to fill in the cracks as damage limitation. Thanks to Cahill, we are in BIG trouble.

I was hoping Rudiger would impress and take his position over the first half of the season. Seems Gary may have sped this process up.

Was impressed with Rudiger and Christensen today. The future is bright for us in the CB spots.

Continued displays like that from Luiz and Cahill will see them lose their spots by the end of the year i reckon.

Reminded me of what happened last season with his moments of madness against Swanesea and Arsenal that cost us points. He needs to offer a public apology if he hasn't done that already, single handedly gave the game away. It's 1 of the most stupid red card I have seen in years.

I've had this same debate with people on this forum and was told i know nothing about football because i claimed a defenders job is to stop goals not score them. Scoring goals is all good but when you lose your man or are at fault for several goals a season its worth nothing.

Cahill is to blame. Ridiculous 'tackle' that deserved a red. Had a Utd or Spurs player have done it against us we would be calling for a red card. Take off the blue tinted glasses and look at the bigger picture, he could have broke someones leg.
