That's why top defenders are respected. Sorry, you said decent level. I didn't know primary school is considered decent, I'm qualified! Yippee! It is why top defenders are respected, they make that decision. Cahill didn't and his decision cost us. No surprise he's not a top defender. Like I said, U10 level stuff. Step up, he's offside and out of the game like RIP said. Edited April 4, 20179 yr by TheChelseaBlues

Step up, he's offside and out of the game like RIP said. Lot more to playing an offside than just stepping up in fairness, the whole unit needs to do it not an individual. We used to always have a caller, generally a full back as they could see across the line, if they didn't call it we didn't attempt to play an offside.
April 4, 20179 yr There is more to it but when you can see everyone else is ahead of you in the defensive line and you're playing someone on isn't it your responsibility to step up into that line regardless of nobody telling you to do it? I think he made two mistakes and one led to a goal, the other easily could have. The loss isn't squarely on him by any means but I thought it warranted a mention. I didn't hear the commentators, one of us or MOTD bring it up Edited April 4, 20179 yr by TheChelseaBlues

April 5, 20179 yr Cahill was top class today. Aguero was in his pocket all night. For me, there is nobody better than Cahill in games like today. He's learnt from the best.
April 5, 20179 yr aguero is a good level above him and nearly always shows it, but not today. that was his best game of the season, and what a time for it- under huge pressure and alongside luiz unfortunately having his poorest game for a while and a rusty zouma. proper captain's stuff.
April 6, 20179 yr One of my favourites players this season. Started pretty bad the season, but then became one of the best defenders in the league, important tackles, leadership, goals. Good to hear about his performance yesterday, let's hope he will add another title to his wardrobe.
April 16, 20179 yr Look at this mess from Cahill. Sorry to say but another player who won't get anywhere near the starting XI of truly elite clubs. Cahill is not Terry and should be a squad player at best.

I get what you are saying but this is again because Cahill assumed that the referee will blow the whistle cos the ball should have gone out of play and he went to help Lingard. It was again a moment of turning off and a silly one. Unfortunate but correctable. Even Luiz turned off for the first goal when he assumed that the refs will blow the whistle for Herraras handball and thoroughly caught. He is far from being the worst performer for Chelsea the past few games.
April 16, 20179 yr Not sure what Gary was thinking about with this one. He will know more than anyone he let himself down. This though is another ease of the team on the whole just not at it this match. I sincerely hope it isn't something else behind the scenes that has unstabled the squad on the whole. He was top class against City and our other two games against United but one bad performance and everyone pounces on him. Really pisses me off.
April 17, 20179 yr He rightly assumed the ball had gone out of play. Also he's still stood in the right place regardless of whether he picks him up or not, he wouldn't have prevented that goal either way.
April 17, 20179 yr yeah this wasn't cahill at fault. still surprised luiz moved out the way as the ball was heading towards him from the shot. i assume he thought bego would have it covered.
April 17, 20179 yr well looking at the replay it's still a hilarious lost of concentration or he's just being good guy gaz

April 20, 20179 yr Apparently he's been in hospital for the past two days with an "unspecified illness". I guess he'll be missing the Tottenham game... f**k! http://weaintgotnohistory.sbnation.com/2017/4/20/15378040/gary-cahill-injury-status-chelsea-fa-cup-semifinal-spurs?utm_campaign=weaintgotnohistory.sbnation&utm_content=chorus&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter
