June 23, 201412 yr This could actually be the best thing to happen to him, and maybe his future at Chelsea too. He may now realise he isn't the finished article and still actually does have a lot to learn and maybe Chelsea may actually have been right all along. I won't hold my breath but let's see. Fingers crossed it may teach him to keep his head down from now on and shut his mouth until he is ready to deliver what he thinks he can at the top level because mark my words he has been woeful, utterly out of his depth. It's been like watching a 'worst of Torres' highlights DVD or something. I really hope you are right and this world cup shows him that he still has a lot to learn. I would hate to see him doing to Jose what he did to his Belgium team manager. It showed a total lack of class and respect. I wouldnt be upset if he was sold for around 30 million but after his performance in the world cup so far I cant see anyone offering that kind of money. In my opinion I think he will ask to leave this summer. With Costa and maybe another striker coming in I just cant see Lukaku willing to stay and fight for a place in the team. Also from what I have seen of him Im not sure he would be that good for us anyway. As DKW said his hold up play isnt very good, his first touch is shocking and at Chelsea teams turn up for a draw or to hit us on the counter attack. I personally think that Lukaku isnt good enough (at the moment) to do a decent job against teams that do that.
June 23, 201412 yr I didn't watch the Belgium game, was that Wilmots who Lukaku pushes away after he comes off? To be honest it's not unusual for players to look unhappy after they are substituted but I think in Lukaku's case it's more because for someone who runs his mouth as much as Lukaku does he's not backing it up on the pitch. To be making statements like "I am now a complete striker" and then performing so poorly your twice replaced after an hour by a 19 year old with no international experience doesn't look good. I'd still take Lukaku back at Chelsea next season but he would need to willing to play second fiddle to Costa (or whoever).
June 23, 201412 yr Hazard was very poor too until very late on Agreed. He really should be doing more than just the odd run 2 or 3 times a game.
June 23, 201412 yr The red devils didn't play for 80 minutes, Hazard turned it on for ten minutes & the game was won. Their next game, Hazard should be rested for much tougher opponents.
June 23, 201412 yr I don't think he should be harshly judged on his World Cup performances, he is a good player but his attitude is disappointing. Just a week ago he said that he only thinks about the team first and not himself, then he goes and reacts like that when his manager does something for the good of the team.
June 23, 201412 yr Hazard was very poor too until very late on But he did come up with his "moment", which top class players do, even when they or their team don't play to their best. We saw it with Messi v Iran, and Ronaldo against the US.

Just a week ago he said that he only thinks about the team first and not himself, then he goes and reacts like that when his manager does something for the good of the team. He probably has a different view of what is best for the team: i.e. it's best for the team if he's on the pitch.
June 23, 201412 yr Im hoping this will be a chastening wake up call. Whilst I really want him to do well in a Chelsea shirt, I really dont think hes ready to be a No1 choice for a CL chasing team. IMO if he'd have stayed at Chelsea last year, I think he'd have ended the year as our first choice, but he wasnt prepared to fight for the job. I really want to see us start next year with Him, Costa and Torres/Ba in the team and allow him to develop correctly, with the right manager and with solid competition for places (unlike Naismith at Everton for instance) only then will we see him become the beast he has the potential to be.
June 23, 201412 yr I admire the optimism, but come on, its motor mouth Romelu Lukaku. He is so clouded by his own delusion of greatness that he is incapable of rationale inward thinking. If he was half the player he thinks he was he might be worth the effort of massaging his ego etc. His ego will be his downfall and I don't think for one second he'll ever become a legend like Drogba. June 23, 201412 yr In my heart of hearts, I want him to succeed at Chelsea - I think we all do. However in my head, if keeps talking the talk without actually performing, he'll turn into another Bendter, guy who's above everyone else and believes in his own sh*t. The ball's in his court to shut his mouth and put in performances, because lets not kid ourselves, it's 100% his loss if he up and leaves Chelsea and just becomes a good mid-table player. He's what, 21? I'd like him to just keep his head down and show that he's best instead of telling us. Technically, he's very good. I think it's his mentality that's holding him and he'll need to sort that out now if he's ever to become even close to Drogba.
June 23, 201412 yr I agree with everything Sean Paul apart from the technically good bit. The guys I play 7 a side with have a better touch lol
June 23, 201412 yr When you are leading the line yourself it's vital you have a good first touch and can bring others into play. This is where Lukaku at the World Cup has failed badly at, his second touch is a tackle and he's just not making any decent runs. The boy who came on for him has twice offered far more to the team so he shouldn't be throwing a strop at the manager...it's not his fault Lukaku isn't doing his job. I agree with everything Sean Paul apart from the technically good bit. The guys I play 7 a side with have a better touch lol Haha, granted it looks bad given his recent performances. But watching him at Everton, sometimes it looked like he scored for fun and other times it looked like they were down a man. My point there was if he's mentally aware enough, and improves the way I think he can, he will be a top striker. I just don't want him to remain a young prospect for another couple of years and then turn into a guy that people look back on and go "Remember when he was touted as the next Drogba?" I don't think there's a better manager than Mourinho to transform Lukaku from an exciting prospect into a top class striker.
June 23, 201412 yr That's true. But, whether Mourinho can be arsed to pour his energy into him when he could be using that time to work with those who are mature and ready is another matter. If he hadnt spoken so much out of turn, kept his head down and shown a little bit of maturity Mourinho probably would have said hes gonna call him back to work with him. Now I just cant see it. If he rang Mourinho up, apologised, showed some remorse and promised he'll not be any trouble.....maybe he'll get that chance..... if Mourinho is in a cracking mood. If he gave Mourinho the disrespect that he showed his national coach last night, I wouldnt want him anywhere near Chelsea. Ever! I am really not sold on him at present. June 23, 201412 yr I think if he does leave he will go on to look like a good striker but I dont think it will be for a top 3 team. I dont think he has the right mind set to be at a top club (at the moment anyway).
June 23, 201412 yr Yeah I can't see jose putting up with his childish antics. Tries that when he comes back and he will be sold on the spot.
June 23, 201412 yr Think anyone who has a twitter account should paste this forum link to Lukaku. He then might understand he still has a lot to learn before he becomes a Chelsea player let alone a legend. His trash talk about Chelsea buying strikers smacks of a player who is both arrogant and has no passion to fight for a place in our team.
June 24, 201412 yr Surprise Surprise as soon as people question Lukaku his agent comes out this morning and says Chelsea do not want to loan him out and he is thinking of extending his Chelsea contact.
June 24, 201412 yr The Queen of Belgium met the Belgium squad after their game against Russia. She congratulated Lukaku on scoring the winner... He had to admit he wasn't even on the pitch at the time. Awkward.
June 24, 201412 yr He's attitude at being subbed for Belgium has put him out of my interest now. Hope he leaves.
June 24, 201412 yr U wouldn't hold that against him to be honest, there's every chance he was angry at himself for such a poor showing. It was a bit petulant but I prefer that sometimes to players coming of happy and smiley after being sh*t.
