Oscar - Little Diamond

Featured Replies

Given Jose said today that he hopes Oscar will have a season like hazard next year, sounds like he's staying...can't say I'm too optimistic Oscar will live up to what standard Jose thinks he is

I think Jose has given up on him

Well we don't know if he will or not.

We need to hope and pray he is but my money is on a repeat of every season he's had so far in a Chelsea shirt.

Hope I'm wrong.

I think its funny that in critasisem of both Oscar and Willian we sight Errikson for example as some one light years ahead, a player who has been pretty crap since the carling cup final loss

I'm not usually one to question Sir Jose, however, I think it's about time he gave up on this little Oscar project. We sold 2 players that are much better than him who play in the same position and after 3 years he hasn't improved much.

"The Oscar Project" just saw us win our first league title in 5 years.

He's now the same age Frank Lampard was when he first joined Chelsea.

More reasons to keep the faith than not.

Gary Cahill has also been in the team but the vast majority want him replaced next season. Hell, even Jose has got to the point where he's getting dropped because of his poor performances. Do you think that he's a better player than De Bruyne? Or do you think he will eventually be better than De Bruyne?

Not sure I've seen many sane, rational people suggesting Cahill be replaced? Happy to be corrected though. His form dipped in the middle of the season, he sat at a few games and then came back the stronger for it.

I don't watch the Budesliga so I'm in no position to comment on KDB really.

With Oscar however I see a very intelligent, hard working, younger player with his best years ahead of him.

When he's on song he's as good as anyone else in the league in his role, our best performances have been when he plays because he's link up with Hazard and particularly Fabregas is excellent.

There's room for improvement, of course there is but at 23 he's only just getting to an age where most players in his position start performing well and showing some consistency. We've developed and ingrained him for three years and I don't see why we should give that up now we've got the best foundation of a solid team/squad we've had for arguably 10 years.

I agree with ForeverCarefree about Oscar beeing intelligent, hard working and heading into his best age as a footballer. His linkup play have lead to some of our best and most important goals this season, latest one was his flick for Hazards goal against United. For him to improve his game further though, then I think he needs to put on more muscles and add more agression into his game. I see him far to often beeing bullied off the ball like a youth player would when playing against a senior.

He's improved year on year so why wouldn't he continue that trend with a summer off?

You think so? I honestly cant see any improvement since he first got here, looks exactly the same.

He has started less then 30 games for us this year and he has gotten a nice month off to finish the season. Even though he will play in the Copa America he will be well rested up for next season so we can finally put the "hes just tired" thing to bed

He got dropped because Jose ran out of ideas after he'd ran the team into the ground and hadn't done any work on attacking systems. How do I know? Well it did absolutely nothing to improve the performance when he was taken off and often it deteriorated further. If Jose was as obsessed with changing things at 60-70 mins when the team is spent as he is taking Oscar off for no reason at half time then maybe we'd be sitting in the CL semis.

Sure he's going to rest, but you consider this last bit a nice month off? He got clobbered.

Honestly though with Mikel hardly playing / seemingly going we really need a player to step in, divide the fanbase and provide something to argue over for the months of off season

I think Cahill stepped up after losing his spot for a few weeks, and it's clear there's a very capable talent in Zouma available behind him.

Jose couldn't do that with Oscar really, as no combination of AMs offer nearly the same to the team in both attack and defence as Hazard, Oscar and Willian.

As for De Bruyne - KdB wasn't cutting it in the role Jose wanted him in, and Oscar is. He's having a cracking season at a team in a league where he's offered much more creative freedom and time on the ball, playing a completely different role in a different setup. I really don't think you can compare.

Ive had plenty of concussions, he was affected for maybe a couple of days the rest of the time hes been fine and even sat on the bench. Fact of the matter is he hasnt played that many games this year with us going out early in the FA cup and CL. He should be well rested for the start of next season

When Oscar was keeping Mata out the team it really was on form not merit. Would like to see him go back to that

Thought he wasn't going to play in copa America?

Thats even better then. Is Willian playing or are they pretty much going with the U21s?

Think willian and felipe are going but ramires isn't.

No excuses for oscar next season, I personally think he needed an extented break. How many players have played at 4 international tournaments in 3 years, and also moving to the other side of the world, with a young family, competing in the toughest league, across 4 competitions where the pressure to perform is always on.

That must be tough for him, and I think mental and physical tiredness is a more valid excuse for oscar, than most players in world football. I think he will prove alot of the doubters wrong next season.

I think he has and the stats back it up too. He's been moved around over those three years but I think now he's settling into a position and was forming a nice relationship with Costa, Fabregas, Hazard and Matic. Unfortunately all but one of those has been off-form at points after Christmas and injuries have played a part too.

The point is he's still young and young players will be inconsistent. I think that issue is exacerbated by the amount of football he's played. He has the summer off now so next year is his final chance, the season he'll be judged by. I hope he lives up to his potential.
