June 26, 201412 yr And your happy with this?. A football club where it's core support are tourists. And you wonder why other fans take the piss out of us and call us plastic. I just couldn't step foot in a place like that it's almost anti-football fan. It's a marketing man's wet dream and a football fan's nightmare Imagine how embarassing it would be to have 15,000 empty seats.
June 26, 201412 yr We also got to realise that we need new fans coming through. Fans from 60s 70s ( myself) 80s and 90s aren't going to fill stamford bridge. We may think we're more passionate or vocal, but we want new blood coming through and I know people who use the family section to get their kids coming to the games to keep the tradition going. They can't be all labelled "plastic". My first game as 9 year old was Chelsea vs Liverpool 1978 over 45,000 then went for the rest of that season with nowhere near that figure, so we had plastic fans back then. Your right Richard. Generation's of fans have been past by chelsea for year's because of ticket prices. I fear for our vocal furture at chelsea I really do.
June 26, 201412 yr Cithe are doing it right- http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2670620/Manchester-City-increase-capacity-Etihad-55-000-Premier-League-champions-will.html
June 26, 201412 yr If we had the right stadium with the right pricing we'd fill a 70k stadium The increased capacity re the corporate side would easily subidise the cheaper seats to ensure capacity crowds You've got a real hard on for corporate mate do you watch your football from an executive box?. So it's foie gras and a cheeky red for them and wagon wheels and bovril for the oiks.
June 26, 201412 yr Give me Wagon Wheels and Bovril every time, people from our era will never know how brilliant it was.
June 26, 201412 yr Give me Wagon Wheels and Bovril every time, people from our era will never know how brilliant it was. Funny enough i bought some Wagon Wheels a while ago there bloody tiny! The same with crisps you get about 8 in a bag in those multi'packs
June 26, 201412 yr I remember up at Villa when they wouldn't let us take Bovril back to the seats after half time
June 27, 201412 yr Your right Richard. Generation's of fans have been past by chelsea for year's because of ticket prices. I fear for our vocal furture at chelsea I really do. Cithe are doing it right- http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2670620/Manchester-City-increase-capacity-Etihad-55-000-Premier-League-champions-will.html I think Roman would do it right too, his behaviour since he took over the club, tells you it would be more like the way City are doing it than Arsenal re ticket prices at a new bigger/stadium Given his taste for the dramatic/oligarch mentality Id say any new stadium he did instruct, would have to be better than anyone else's!
July 12, 201412 yr The secretary of state has passed the compulsory purchase applications which will allow Spurs to complete the purchase of all the necessary buildings and land to enable them to start work on their new 56,000 capacity stadium BUGGER - we will be up s**t creek if roman ever leaves
July 12, 201412 yr Roman loves Chelsea??????? He'd have loved Spuds if he'd been successful in buying them! He cares for the club, but it's not love, not like a fan whose grown up supporting them from a young age.[/quot Absolutely spot on! Love is something that grows, its not instant. I love my wife but had I met someone else before who knows I may have loved them to.
July 12, 201412 yr "Peanuts! Peanuts! Roasted Peanuts!" 20p for a paper bag. They were the days! I went to university in Glasgow 25 years ago, used to go to plenty games across the city as a neutral, back in those days there was an alcohol ban in the stadiums, so people used to inject oranges with vodka and take them in. As everyone piled out after games, all you could see was the terraces covered in orange skins.

August 18, 201411 yr Quick question. I've been to the Bridge like 6 times and was on wikipedia today ans saw they had 85k for a match in the 30's . I know the stadium was remodeled a few years ago but I can't see how they could have crammed that many people into a stadium with that small of a footprint
August 18, 201411 yr It was no seating back then, just all open space, picture it as a greyhound track, fans all around it.
August 18, 201411 yr Quick question. I've been to the Bridge like 6 times and was on wikipedia today ans saw they had 85k for a match in the 30's . I know the stadium was remodeled a few years ago but I can't see how they could have crammed that many people into a stadium with that small of a footprint On a slightly related note, Chelsea are credited in many quarters for hosting the largest attendance in English football history, with their games vs Dynamo Moscow in 1945 - where a reported 100,000 to 120,000 packed into an already at capacity Stamford Bridge.
August 18, 201411 yr I love Stamford Bridge. I cant imagine Chelsea having a home match in another stadium. I hope we expand the capacity instead of moving.
August 19, 201411 yr I don't know about the geology bellow SB, but has there been any discussion on engineering an underground parking/shops/space/etc? I do really like the idea of the steep stands to be "on top" of the game. Could they also lower the level of the pitch as well to add to that affect? Just throwing these ideas out there, not really sure how feasible it would be. Also possibly looking into building parking ramps like the ones found in Chicago, USA that when empty appear as giant sculptures...
August 19, 201411 yr Think someone mentioned the water table below Stamford Bridge had to be taken into consideration. The technology is out there to create something special. It seems the club have spent fortunes on surveys and specialist advice. I really hope there is a way to redevelop and it doesn't come down to politics.
August 20, 201411 yr Water table is supposed to be to high however we have an underground car park under the new shed area.
August 21, 201411 yr I love Stamford Bridge. I cant imagine Chelsea having a home match in another stadium. I hope we expand the capacity instead of moving. We likely will have to play somewhere else while expanding, so we will probably have home matches somewhere else for awhile.
August 21, 201411 yr We likely will have to play somewhere else while expanding, so we will probably have home matches somewhere else for awhile. And suddenly the Aldershot Town pitch donation makes perfect sense. "It's our grass - we can play on it whenever we want".
August 21, 201411 yr It would be such a shame if we had to move elsewhere. But we do need a bigger stadium to compete with other big clubs.
August 21, 201411 yr It sounds like that the issue of standing is being pushed by the government with the lib dems now backing sage standing areas. If that safe standing areas did happen, that would make a hige difference? The club would be able to fit more in and still stay at the Bridge. Unfortunately over clubs would also be to do the same.
