May 16, 201312 yr Top professional. Not many players can say they played for Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan and PSG.
May 16, 201312 yr Feels like he's been around forever without me ever seeing him do anything, been nearly a decade since the galacticos.
May 16, 201312 yr If someone openly says that they hate David Beckham as a footballer they are either lying through their teeth, blinded by club loyalties, or just silly. He's come a long way from the days of Manchester United... Real Madrid, AC Milan, LA Galaxy, and finally Paris Saint-Germain. He's become more than just a player for the sport, he's become both an ambassador and an icon for the game we all love. For that, he gets my respect and deserves a long and prosperous future. Just imagine if his sons become footballers in future, can you imagine the scale of expectation on their shoulders? Yeesh.
May 16, 201312 yr Author He carried England for a while, and yeh ok England have always under achieved but i really think that without him they would have been a damn site worse. Hopefully he will go on to represent the country in some form. I dont think anyone can question his professional side and his love for the country.
May 16, 201312 yr One of those goals you'll never forget, and those moments have been extremely few and far between for the national side in the last 50 years.
May 16, 201312 yr In my opinion he'll rightly go down as one of the most influential players to grace the game. His talent is unquestionable (although Bluebeard will question that), the effort he has put into developing the skills he has is unquestionable (again I know a grumpy old sod that will question it) and his passion for the game is beyond question (bluebeard; shut up! ). A great player and he deserves all the plaudits he'll get. I jealously used to say I thought he was sh*te and over hyped, but he never was.

A great player and he deserves all the plaudits he'll get. I jealously used to say I thought he was sh*te and over hyped, but he never was. To a degree, he was. He was hyped to the extent where any person off the street who didn't know any better would have probably thought that he was on par (or maybe even better than) the likes of Zidane and Ronaldo. He was never quite in that class, for mine. That being said, there's no doubt that he was an excellent player in his prime, even if his celebrity has masked his decline as a player since he moved to LA Galaxy. His crosses, long shots and free kicks were absolutely to die for, while his passing game and off the ball movement were none too shabby, either. He also showed personal courage, not only in coming back from the crucifixion he endured after being provoked by that weasel Simeone in 1998, but also to lead a typically underperforming English side to the 2002 World Cup with that wonderful free kick. I wish him well.
May 16, 201312 yr quality player, great professional, loved playing for england. not a bad sort at all in my book.
May 16, 201312 yr Top Pro. Kicked an Arggie once. Seems to have been around forever. Any club would have loved to have had him in their team. Congratulations, I am sure an ambassador role is in his future.
May 16, 201312 yr One of the very few non Chelsea footballers I genuinely like. A great Ambassador for us and one that is respected everywhere.
May 16, 201312 yr Yes, there was insufferable hype and yes I would often roll my eyes at the attention his brand would get. But behind all that there was a genuine work ethic and enthusiasm for the sport. I think ever since Real Madrid turned their season around in 2006/7, with him as one of the catalysts when he could have just sulked off and left for his new team, my opinion of him changed for the better. Same could be said about his world cup vilification and subsequent revival as England's leader a few years later. It takes some character to do what he's done. I guess if I was a real fanatic about the MLS I might feel somewhat differently, but I wish the guy well. Just hope with that voice he doesnt get into acting.
May 16, 201312 yr A great professional who just loved the game. I wouldn't say he was supremely gifted but he worked hard and was passionate for both club and country. Such a shame that he went to the US when he was still at his peak.
May 17, 201312 yr No question a really nice bloke who has been a model pro (bar those God awful tattoos) and clearly made the best out of what talent he has. But f**k me, I won’t bother looking at a paper today and will ignore Talk Sport for the rest of the day as they are really going OTT on this. He was no George Best or even Gazza. Talk Sport are trying make whole shows out of Beckham and getting people to phone or text in with their favourite Beckham moment. They are only getting TWO! That goal against Wimbledon and the free-kick against Greece! What else is there other than the sending off against Argentina?! If he had looked like Ian Dowie he’s now be trying to make a living with a club like Barnet.
May 17, 201312 yr Didn't George Best once say something about how he can't head the ball, use his left foot, tackle or score many goals?
May 17, 201312 yr Didn't George Best once say something about how he can't head the ball, use his left foot, tackle or score many goals? Yeah he did. It was when he was giving him player of the year of some kind I think.
May 17, 201312 yr Good servant to club and country, and I've not no gripe with him as a player. However I can't say the same for the relentless hype and 'selling' of Brand Beckham. The next fortnight of national mourning will be unbearable.
May 17, 201312 yr http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22568870 This bloke us up there with one of the bitterest ex-players with John Aldridge Though I get where he is coming from a bit, he is basically saying Beckham is over-rated but still what a knob. Tell you what Waddle you don't even come in my top 10,000 p*ss off back to your sausage factory your not fit to lace Beckham's boots.
