July 9, 201313 yr Yeah, I think I speak for the majority of us when I say that I really don't want to see Ramires out there again. He was fine there two seasons back when we were mainly playing on the counter and could exploit his lightning pace on the break, but he just doesn't cut it when teams sit deep in two banks of four. The middle is where he belongs, no question. Ideally I'd like to see us move to 4-3-3 with the current personnel; new signing like De Rossi for the DM spot, Ramires/Van Ginkel for the box to box role, Oscar/KDB/Lampard taking care of creativity in midfield and Mata, Hazard, Moses and Schurrle fighting it out for the inside forward/wing positions. July 9, 201313 yr What? Ramires was terrible on the right side. Zero crossing ability, doesnt have any ability on the ball to beat defenders. Hes worse there then he is a defensive holder and I think we all saw last season thats not his position either.. Except when hes running at the Barcelona defence...... But yeah, wasted out wide usually though I can see why in certain games he is used there to counter opposition players. Edited July 9, 201313 yr by dkw
July 9, 201313 yr I believe Mourinho will stick with his favourite formation 4-2-3-1, the main role in which is the double pivot. He used two of the best in that role with Real Madrid, Xabi Alonso and Sami Khedira. If he signs De Rossi he will more than likely use our midfield dynamo. Ramires as his partner in that role. In the number 10 role Mata is the man for the job with Hazard and Schurrle on the wings.
July 9, 201313 yr I thought Ramires had a good 11/12 season in that sort of position.. he scored some big goals and got a few assists, he broke down defenses with his quick feet and lightning pace. That's a better position for him than CDM, where I barely saw him do that apart from the odd game. I get what you mean though, Ramires' main problem playing more out on the side is that he gets caught offside too often. Hopefully after Mourinho's heap of praise given to Ramires that shows that he knows where he wants him to play and where he thinks is best.
July 9, 201313 yr I understand Mourinho explained to Ramires how he wants to work with him. I guess he intends to use him in the double pivot.

July 9, 201313 yr Sorry to disappoint you but I'm no longer posting in this forum. Oh no! How ever will I sleep?!

July 12, 201313 yr Just a quick overview of van Ginkel taken from an article on The Guardian: Chelsea secured a deal for 20-year-old Dutch midfielder Marco van Ginkel. After he impressed in last month's European Under-21 Championship, the London club wasted no time in fighting off competition for the midfielder, who came through the ranks of Vitesse Arnhem – a Dutch side closely affiliated to Chelsea through a technical partnership (and player loans). Van Ginkel, already capped for Holland at senior level, is an energetic "box-to-box" midfielder whose well-timed forward surges, goalscoring ability and tactical discipline – equally as eager to defend as attack – could eventually see him as the natural successor to Frank Lampard. A modern, quick-thinking, athletic and physically impressive player, he should instantly and comfortably slot into José Mourinho's young and competitive squad. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2013/jul/12/transfer-window-analysis-bony-altidore
July 12, 201313 yr Not sure if this is the right place to put this, but who do you guys reckon will have the biggest impact on the first team next season? I haven't seen much of any of them- MVG, KDB, or Schurrle?

July 12, 201313 yr KDB's footwork is amazing, imagine him playing opposite hazard? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koquFj_L_P8 They're going to give defenders fits this year. Also I haven't seen anything of van ginkel but he's getting rave reviews from the dutch, and they are pretty good at cranking out quality players.
July 12, 201313 yr Also I haven't seen anything of van ginkel but he's getting rave reviews from the dutch, and they are pretty good at cranking out quality players. The Dutch have nothing on England, who have produced such talent as Jonjo Shelvey.
July 12, 201313 yr The Dutch have nothing on England, who have produced such talent as Jonjo Shelvey. Yes, modesty befits us.
July 18, 201313 yr Thought I was watching Josh McEachran there, to be honest. What a difference competitive first-team football makes. van Ginkel's aggression on and off the ball compared to McEachran is not an indictment on Josh but rather in indictation of what may have been had McEachran been given more chances to cement his confidence.
