Official: Chelsea sign Mark Schwarzer

Bit of a tangent here but; this shows, how pointless and made-up Football transfer journalism is. There were no rumours about this at all, even though for an investigative journalist it shouldn't have been too hard to have picked up.

Far easier to just to pick at random I guess.

Very happy with the signing btw

Didn't even know we were linked with him. Just went onto twitter and there he was, holding our shirt.

Anyway very smart signing. Much better value than Ruddy and a safe pair of hands for this season when he is called upon.

A very good choice, and on a free.

He has experience, he has quality, and he will relish a shot at the big time before he quits, yet understand his place in the pecking order.

I wonder who our number 3 will be?

I believe Hilario may still be kept on, in which case we will have 3 foreign keepers, and that only allows us 14 foreign outfield players, if I'm not mistaken.

Maybe the 19 year old Blackman .. ?

Great signing but....will he get a chance? I can't help thinking this is the sort of keeper Arsenal

should have bought, but since they're f**king morons, they didn't.

Schwarzer is a great keeper and we're gonna let him rot as our number 2? Hmmmm....

...he wants to be at a club where he can have a last couple of years of glory challenging for things.

I think he signed a one year contract.

Good signing. Will probably get some cup games but I'd also feel fairly confident withSchwarzer covering should Cech he be out for any length of time.

Good job by the club. Someone of proven talent and experience so Petr can actually get a decent rest at times this season.

No reason why Big Pete needs to play at all in the League cup now. Mark should also be given games in the League, Fa cup and CL group stages.

Great signing major upgrade over Hilario and Turnbull.

No more nerves if Cech(*knock on wood*) gets injured, as was the case in the last few years where Cech missed out at least a few weeks due to different injuries.

Difficult one for me. In my view (having watched for Australia for many years) he is a phenomenal shot stopper, something that hasn't diminished with age. But he can be a bit suspect at other things. Controlling the box at corners being one thing that comes to mind. He is the sort that will make a school boy error and then pull off a ridiculous save straight afterwards to make up for it.

But that said. He is a man for the big occasion and on a free for one season he is a good backup probably better than our other two options.

The other aspect is that I don't really want him sitting on the bench for the whole year before a World Cup.

Good signing, free and experienced back up for Cech.

Also not adding to the Cech and Courtois dilemma we are going to have next summer.

Thumbs up from me.

I think he signed a one year contract.

He did but I kinda just assume that in keeping with our one year for over 30's rule he'll end up signing another year contract after, providing he isn't totally useless this season of course.
