Willian

So what? Hate on Willian for not being a better player? Re

I don't hate on Willian, but I think he's overrated. I think he is more style than substance. If we were getting points for beating people off the dribble, he'd be the second player I'd pick from Chelsea.

I would love to be able to sell high on him and invest that money in a replacement.

I won't be upset if Willian is back. I'll be upset if:

1. Chelsea turns down £50M+ for him

Or

2. Chelsea sells him for £50M+ and fails to reinvest the money into a replacement.

That's just drama queen hyperbole with no  possible basis in actual  fact.

Unless you have genuine statistics to  back it up,  of course.

Lets be honest YB, if i were to use stats there'd then be the usual argument of 'stats don't paint the whole picture and can be used to manipulate whatever picture a person wants'. Lets just leave it as for the past few seasons i've watched him he's only ever hit the 'Barcelona match' form for probably 5 games a season.

I've never said that about stats - they have a very useful place when used correctly.

My point wasn't about "Barcelona" level performances, more that he plays at a fairly consistent level given the requirements of the teams tactics, and that plays a part for those tactics.  It might not be the level that fans want, but I don't think it can be denied that he performs a valuable role in past seasons.

He’s starting to look hugely unprofessional. Sell him. Bored of him now.

Get Martial in return, sell Morata and buy Pulisic/Bailey... if only!

Sarri on Willian's passport issues.

Asked after Wednesday’s shoot-out loss to Arsenal about Willian’s late arrival, and the excuse of an expired passport, Sarri turned his smile upside down. Or, to be more precise, turned his smile into a knowing smile.

“I want to speak to him before I answer these questions. I don’t know. I am not happy about the situation but I would like to talk to him.

”Is it strange? I think so.”

So  the manager says he'd like to have all the facts before making a public statement other than he is not happy about the situation, and you choose to post that with an implied criticism of the player.  And it's from Sky, trying to create a story.

Good going, even for you, matey.

Whichever way we spin it, turning up a week late for pre-season is poor showing from Willian and shows a lack of professionalism on his part.

Did you say that when lover boy Diego went AWOL?

Not sure where the implied criticism is?

Didn't make any personal judgement or anything negative about Willian. Simply just posted a quote from our manager, which was on a news article.

You do realise not everything is an attack on someone?

Come on now, because you posted it, Willians biggest critic on here, turns up with a snippet that is knocking Willian, 1+1 = 2 :laugh2:

1 + 1 = 3this time!

Also, where else should i post quotes about a player if not their own thread? I would have done the same for Hazard etc.

If I turned up in work a week late I might as well stay home. They must have some sort of time window to come back otherwise you are working with either idiots or unprofessional and ungrateful pieces of sh*tes.

OK, where are your quotes of all the other parts of the interview relating to all the other aspects of the club that have threads ongoing in here?

Have a quick look at the on-line  dictionary of your choice for the definition of disingenuous.  Mine says

"disingenuous. [dis-in-jen-yoo-uh s] adjective. lacking in frankness, candor, or sincerity; falsely or hypocritically ingenuous; insincere: Her excuse was rather disingenuous."

I'm just struggling to understand how a someone who uses their passport basically every month of the year for their job gets into a situation where they let it expire?

I don't buy it personally.

Here's the article i was reading and took the quote from.

As you can see it is discussing just this portion of Sarri's interview. How can i post portions of the rest of the interview when they aren't given in the above link?

Crazy world when you can't post a quote about a player on their thread without someone jumping down your throat. :laugh2:

To be honest I have seen enough absent minded people doing all sort of stupid things with passports/visas/deadlines/documents/etc to find this totally believable. And I wouldn't expect footballers to be, you know, sharpest in this way.

What I don't get, is how in a multi-million business and employee on a multi-million salary, whose travel is crucial to the functioning of this business does not get basic admin support to deal with this.

This is what i struggle to understand. If it has expired surely we/he keeps checks on these things and ensures they're up to date. What if it had expired before a crunch Champions league game?

If he has merely lost it surely we have someone that can take him that same day to get a new one? Why did it take an extra 5 days?

No  throat-jumping going on.  Just pointing out that you made selective quotes about a player that you have consistently criticised as a stick to beat him with.  And that web site is hardly an official source, is it?

Actually, Willian didn't just turn up 5 days late.  Chelsea have said that Willian has been in constant contact with them and informed them he would return later and they accepted this.  This was known well in advance and if there is any issue - it's the communication between Chelsea and their new manager and not with Willian.  Newspapers obviously want sells / clicks and so a headline of "Sarri wants talks with Willian" is spicier than "Chelsea were informed of Willian's passport renewal issues and knew he would be late".   If I turned up at my workplace 5 days late having told them I need to renew my passport / work permit a month earlier then would definitely never fire me.  HR will be well aware of this!  This is a non issue and it's ignorant to be saying Willian is unprofessional over this.

Because that's the quote that was on the web page!! So what if the website isn't an official source, its a good website to get Chelsea rumours and news from :laugh2: They're quoting Sarri's interview, pretty sure there's a video of the interview on there somewhere too. Or is video technology not official enough as it could have been tampered with by the youth of today! Only quotes that we have witnessed come from someones mouth in person can now be used.

LOL - different countries have different governments and ways of operating.  Willian is from Brazil and many countries including those in Africa as well require renewals to be done 3 months prior to the passport expiring and in person.  Count three months back and find a more fitting time for Willian to have renewed his passport.  Also his passport was being renewed not because it was expiring, but because the pages had run out cause of the stamps.  So the renewal process again would have conditions needing satisfying.  Other countries of course renew passports via post etc - but dont think all nations work like this!

If you worked in a job which requires you to travel the country in your car and you let your car insurance run out and then rang work and told them you couldn't work for a week until you renewed your insurance, you mean to tell me they'd be absolutely fine with that?

They wouldn't question why you hadn't renewed it earlier?

Wouldn't discipline you in any way?

Wouldn't make you take those days as a holiday due to your own error?

Willian has JUST been to Russia weeks before and probably has been on holiday during his 3 week break but the second he's supposed to return to Chelsea he has issues?

Hmmmm.

Chelsea agreed for Willian to extend his leave and return late.  Why should they fine him?

This is the 21st Century. I very much imagine a multi millionaire in Brazil could have renewed their Passport via the post or online.

http://cglondres.itamaraty.gov.br/en-us/passport_application_by_post.xml

A quick google and he could have renewed it in London. Pretty handy seeing as that is where he lives.

Also how do you know his passport ran out of pages? First i've heard of it. Even so, should have been checking.
