Willian

Featured Replies

Willian has failed to report back for pre-season training at Chelsea following a £65 million bid from Real Madrid. Was due back last Friday. He’s contacted Chelsea explaining that it’s due to an issue with his passport, not everyone at Stamford Bridge is convinced (Times)

After what he did to Conte and his lack of professionalism I wouldn't be surprised if he purposely failed to report back for training.

Apparently he is not back yet due to passport issues. Have to wait and see.

The last two Chelsea players who failed to report for pre-season training? Matic and Costa. And guess what?

They were sold.

Matic trained alone but I don't believe he came back late.

Find it hard to believe in this day & age, a passport issue would be preventing him from returning to the UK.  What would the issue be exactly?

Looks increasingly like he is going to stay, but I think it would be madness to pass up the chance of getting a massive transfer fee for him.

If Willian stays i'll be happy, to hell with the money, i wont see any of it, better the devil you know and all that, why do you think only the big boys want him ? They must think he's good enough, when he wants to turn it up, he's better than Neymar imo. Both him and Hazard scare the B'jesus out of defenders.

Although this situation could be perfectly legit. It's interesting just how much we find out about some players' attitudes when things aren't going all rosy. Not saying most players don't have attitudes, but over the past few seasons we've read about attitude issues from Fabregas, Hazard, Willian, Morata, Costa, Matic, Courtois, Musonda. I am sure there's a few others i've missed out, but to me the pettiness and less than desired attitudes of some players shows just how they can be when things get tough.

And yet when everything went to sh*t in 2015/16 Willian was the only one who turned up.

I thought this myth was debunked entirely.

People can try and debunk it all they want, I watched it happen. He was the only one going out there giving it everything game after game. I'll always have massive respect for him for what he did that season.

Hes no loss if he does go.

Any player that constantly breaks up Chelsea counter attacks by picking the wrong pass or running down blind alleys can be upgraded on easily.

Hes always been a decent two way player but hes as dumb as a bag of rocks in terms of footballing intelligence, any super fit player could do a similar job to him, take Moses as an example, if he played some 45/50 games a season for us on the flank I'm sure he'd match Willians usual pathetic output of assists and goals as well as running around a lot.

Willian on his day is good, pretty much unstoppable, but his day happens a couple of times a season. He hasn't offered enough goals or assists since the day he joined. He often kills our attacks, he often miss places passes, his crossing is abysmal 9 times out of 10, he doesn't play the right pass at the right time, he slows down once he reaches the penalty area, he lacks football intelligence. The guy isn't that different from Oscar with his consistency and nobody misses him.

Last season was actually his worst for us, even though it was his best for end product (and even that wasn't that great) He had a month or two of good football, but the rest of it was really poor, especially the first 3 months.

He may not have given up and stopped trying like most of the others, but that isn't something that should be praised, it should be expected of every player. The only thing i felt from that season was less respect for the players around him.

I actually thought at times that Willian's attitude last season was as bad as some of those from the 2016/17 season. He was always moaning, throwing his arms in the air saying he was fouled when he wasn't. Storming down the tunnel because Conte subbed him because of another poor performance. Then the F.A cup final was just embarrassing and childish from him. His attitude last season was at times on the same level of childishness as Costa's.

It's one thing to put in a good shift when the team around you is also doing it, but when you're the only one in the team going out and doing it that's a whole different ball game. That shows real character.

It's a shame he didn't have this character when things were going wrong last season too then.

He shocked me a bit last season to be honest. I don't know what happened between him and Conte, but he was the last person I expected to act out like he did. I tend to give him the benefit of the doubt though because of his flawless behaviour up until last season and Conte's apparent ability to piss people off. I'm very much hoping he stays, puts his head down and works his arse off, and goes back to being the model of good behaviour that we were used to before.

It was utterly disgusting what he did. As you said, complete lack of professionalism. Seeing that post really made me disappointed in Willian.
