I sure do. Even as a big Willian fan (my jersey from the 19-20 season was from him) It’s a funny meme. So why being bitter. People are way too serious nowadays.

well i support Chelsea and that makes me serious when it concerns them. Just wondering if Ziyech or Pulisic were to have a major injury next season, who do we turn to

At this point. I guess the options are putting Werner on the left, Playing CHO (hopefully he finds his form back from before his injury), in case we do sign Kai. He could play from the right (still prefer him from the center). Mason is another option (although I wasn’t convinced when he played on the outside). Maybe frank switches up his formation. There are a few rumours of signing a new winger.
I guess we have to wait and see how we start the new season.

Always amazes me the revisionist history around Willian's 2015/16 season and the amount of mileage he's gotten from it.

Willian had five goals and six assists in a season that he started 35 matches in a front three. Willian's five goals that season came against Newcastle (2), Southampton, Bournemouth, and Crystal Palace. Southampton finished sixth that season. Newcastle was relegated, and Bournemouth and Crystal Palace finished 16th and 15th respectively.

Willian's 5 goals won 1 point

Carried. Maybe it's the language barrier, but I have a very different definition for "carried".

when he was drafted to play on the right wing, which i think is not his preferred position. i think he prefers the left wing. Is it easy for a right legged player to do well on the right? Then, in the premier league, playing on the right as a right legged player, the premier league is a tough league, premier league defenders will not allow you to have it easy, what matters is that when u have your chances, you take them. the problem with some of us is that we can't stand competition. when u have a very good player like Hazard in a team, the other player who is trying to steal the show from him, trying to make the headlines like him, we start beefing him, we hate him. Its not good, a team is not only one player, we can have many top players in a team and football is not only about statistics, it is what you watch that you judge, not statistics ALONE. Certain goals are simply brillant, and that is what gives you respect for a player. Willian, because of that, is a good player. How many goals did Oscar score for Chelsea when he was he was here? but we all like him, he scored one superb goal against Buffon I think. So u respect players by the brillant things that they do.

you're complicating things for yourself, is it CHO who i think at the moment does not know what is happening to him that you want to depend on. or 21, 20 year olds who have just finished sucking their mother's breast that will compete in the champions league, premier league ...... Willian shouldn't have been allowed to go.

I’m not complicating anything. I just gave you the options that are currently there because you asked. I can’t make up extra things that aren’t there. Neither can’t I look in to the future and see what squad we will have when the season starts and when one of the wingers will be out with an injury.

But that doesn’t take away that I will have a laugh when I see a meme and think it is funny. Even as a Chelsea and Willian fan.

It’s not even a joke towards Chelsea. It’s just some banter towards Arsenal.

its okay, im not saying something funny should not be funny to you, what im saying is that Willian would have been a better option to the team than all those people.

Well if it was up to me. I def would have kept him as well. We have done much worse signings in the last couple of seasons that have impacted our wages, than giving Willian that extra year.

I guess we have no other option than to trust them. I just hope that they will be just as consequent when it comes to our defensive department.

The cross/freekick season if I remember rightly

Good luck to him.  Very talented player that always left you wanting more.  I think we can do better and time to move forward.

willian is willian, willian is no body else, he cannot be another person else. In this world, you have to be yourself. what you saw of willian is what he is. I dont know in real life if you want people to like you for who you are? why cant we just like him for who he is? When Joe Cole was with us, how many goals did he score per season? in this Chelsea era, how many of our players have scored more free kicks than willian? maybe Lampard, but apart from that, how many?Chelsea stats: Willian's incredible free-kick record | Goal.com

All the best Willian. A very frustrating player, we saw what he was capable of but he rarely showed it.

If he played at his best all the time he certainly would be up there with Ronaldo and Messi, that’s the potential he had imo. At his best he is devastating, I remember that game against Barcelona he played like a world beater.

Okay maybe the comparison to Ronaldo and Messi is abit of a stretch but my god he was so good in his purple patches.

Who is this chap?

That stat is from 2015! Jesus.

Willian has scored 4 free kicks in the premier league in the 234 games he has played for us. He scored one this year, he scored 2 last year in the Europa league and none the year before.

He's not a free kick wizard. He's not essential to our team and he 100% doesn't deserve a 3 year contract.

Eh?

Don't know any Chelsea fan who "hates" Willian.

We all appreciate his contribution and he's been a good player for us. Good but not great. He has been frustrating and probably for many, never reached the heights we were hoping he would, but such is life and we all move on to the next chapter.

You need to habe a serious read back @Nibs  There is true hatred from some people, arrogant aggression from some and even at least one idiot f**kwit who claims to be a Chelsea fan who actually "cheered" in the match thread when Willian got injured and had to go off.  As soon as that happened this dick posted something along the lines of "hurray, let's hope he's out for a while".  Just think about that, mate.  A Chelsea fan cheering an injury to one of out own players and hoping it's a bad one.

And you know that we have a number of people who are google experts who regularly cut and paste their "stats" to prove the lad is the worst Chelsea player since Frank Sinclair and the worst ever PL forward since Emile Heskey.  There's even one of those a few posts above, someone who can't accept that Willian stepped up in "that" season.

Anyone saying they are glad to see him go needs a history lesson. Willian has been one of our top players since he came to Chelsea. Carried us for an entire season when the rest of the team downed tools. Rember this?

Chants of 'Jose Mourinho' echoed around Stamford Bridge, while Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa were booed as their names were read out over the Stamford Bridge tannoy. Willian, one of the bright sparks in a troubled campaign for Mourinho and the Blues, was roundly cheered by fans.

The ill-feeling towards some of the club's players was emphasised by one of many banners in support of Mourinho, which read: "The three rats; Hazard, Cesc and Costa."

Carried us for an entire season? He scored five league goals against Newcastle (2), Southampton, Bournemouth and Palace. We probably would have finished 11th instead of 10th had someone else played in his absence.

I’ve already said it was a stretch for the comparison, you’d understand if you saw him on his purple patches though

The game you highlighted against Barca, where he was a world beater, he scored a grand total of 0 goals. I rest my case.

Thanks for the service, wish him well, not wishing him the best since he will be playing for the other team in London. I don't think he's ever a great player, but consistent good player whom every manager has relied on, but rarely the best player in the team. I could see Arsenal's reasons in offering him a long contract, they want that experience and winning mentality so badly, they are happy to take on Chelsea players past their best. I reckon he will be a good player for 12-18 months, then rest on the bench for the last phase of his career.

Lampard's signings definitely seem to be players that are versatile and can play in different positions. With Willian and Pedro gone, we are only left with Pulisic, CHO and Ziyech as our natural wingers. However Werner can play out on the left and Havertz (if we sign him) can be played as a winger. Not to mention Mount (albeit him being poor there) so we won't be completely stuffed.

Saying that though, I hope we sign Benrahma, I reckon he can do a job there

to be fair, Willian wasn't a natural winger either. He was a midfielder that stayed out wide.

From what they bring to the wing, Mount is pretty much a like for like replacement if you need cover there for what Willian was supposed to bring. Workrate, pressing, defensive cover, set pieces, receiving and carrying the ball from the back, with little expected going forward. That's why Mount would replace Willian if he was out.... and I agree... that's not good enough.

but finding cover for Willian on the wing isn't difficult. Reece James could do a job there as well. We won a game this season with Barkley and Mount in the front 3, tucking in more narrow.

Willian was reliably fit, did a good job of receiving the ball in our own half and advancing it from midfield, but his contributions as a natural winger will be easy to replace.
