November 12, 201411 yr Rumours are starting up that he might be on his way; http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/30014424 Wouldn't be that surprised personally. Really don't think Jose rates him that much.

Story is in The Sun by Rob Beasley who can be hit and miss with his Chelsea related stories. Not sure I agree with you that Jose doesn't rate him because he's picked him pretty much whenever he's been available. Supposedly he is still struggling with the flu/virus from the previous international break and so he's set not to play during this international break. Considering he's poor fitness this season he's had only two less appearances than Willian this season.
November 12, 201411 yr Sounds a bit harsh tbh. I would rather we got rid of salah. Still not sure on Salah personally. He has had very limited opportunities to show what he can do with us. His pace is absolutely breath-taking and that is a very potent weapon but he needs to have more more composure in the final third. Possibly a case of trying way to hard to impress in the limited time he gets? I will confess I am not a huge Schurrle fan. Unlike Salah he has had the opportunities but his decision-making is often very poor and the defensive side of his game is practically non-existant. He has potential but I don't think he has developed in his time with us so far. I can understand why JM is not using him much. Tough one. In terms of going past people and opening up spaces Salah is arguably better IMO.
December 11, 201411 yr played well last night and has given interview afterwards where he explains he's not been feeling well since the summer, which is why he's not been doing so good for Chelsea this season: http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/chelseas-andre-schurrle-looks-in-rude-health-after-battling-back-from-his-mystery-illness-9917137.html but he's not going anywhere: http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/i-wont-leave-chelsea-in-january-i-belong-here--andre-schurrle-laughs-off-transfer-talk-9916974.html
December 11, 201411 yr Had heard he was ill but didn't realise it was quite that bad. Might explain his poor performances but hopefully he'll be back to his best because we'll definitely need him if we're going to win the league. Had a good game last night and seemed a little less anxious on the ball. Would love to see him get the nod against Hull.

While they may have gone away, it took a toll on my body and it takes lot of time to get back to match fitness." Hopefully it was actually flu or something similar rather than a mental issue because as has been highlighted in recent years depression and the like are extremely serious. Either way wishing Andre well and I'm glad to see him back in the side.

It says in the article it was a virus so hopefully he's seen the back of the worst of it now.
December 11, 201411 yr If he has been recovering from a bad illness then that would explain a lot. I don't rate him as highly as some here but his poor form this season has been a surprise. Jose was also quite adamant in the post match interview that Schuerrle is still in his pans (although we know he's unlikely to say otherwise in public).
December 11, 201411 yr What makes you think it may have been depression or mental issue? It says in the article it was a virus so hopefully he's seen the back of the worst of it now. It's possibly me just reading too much into it but Schurrle's choice of words strike me as slightly odd “I don’t want to say what the medical name for the illness was but the symptoms are hard to get over." I'm not a doctor but it seems strange that a young, fit and healthy professional athlete could be plagued with a virus/flu for going on 5 months if it indeed started during the World Cup finals. In my time following football, which is going on for 20 years now I have never once heard of a player being affected by viral illness for a lengthy amount of time. He missed the last international break too and I just wonder if he was given some time off from football to help get his head together. Again maybe I'm over analysing but that's just how it reads to me.
December 11, 201411 yr Hope he's okay. He has had a poor run of form this season but last night and last season he was the player I always liked to see on the ball, because he makes things happen when others wouldn't.

(That's not me saying me, but me saying the post-viral illness called ME) And maybe the "I don't want to say" is just a German's way of saying "I'm not going to say" which is less mysterious. December 11, 201411 yr ME? (That's not me saying me, but me saying the post-viral illness called ME) And maybe the "I don't want to say" is just a German's way of saying "I'm not going to say" which is less mysterious. It's possible it could be something personal/intimate that he doesn't want everybody knowing about, which is his right. I'm not trying to speculate though, just trying to show that there may be good reasons for his reticence.

Could be, that's not a bad shout although ME is a strange one in itself because there is no known reason or cure for it and one possible factor is mental stress/depression. I guess we will never know for sure but whatever it is/was hopefully Andre is getting back to being 100% and will be challenging for a place in the team again soon.
December 11, 201411 yr for me Schurrle came back from the world cup and was perhaps a bit of a billy big balls, and his focus drifted somewhat in the following months. Fortunately I think the rocket put up his arse by mourinho has served its purpose and I want to see him getting more first team action in league games, which I am sure he will now. He seems like a good lad and a solid professional so it is good to see him dig in and fight... hoping for more from him, I really thought he would be a key player this season. lets keep our fingers crossed that he finds consistency and form over the xmas period when we need it most edit: just read that he hasn't been well, which also will have contributed. so fair play. December 11, 201411 yr It's possible it could be something personal/intimate that he doesn't want everybody knowing about, which is his right. I'm not trying to speculate though, just trying to show that there may be good reasons for his reticence. Let's be honest, he wouldn't be the first bloke to go away for the summer with his mates and catch something. What was interesting was that he played on the right rather than playing as an inverted left-winger. It meant that we had an old-fashioned pacy, left-footed left-winger for the first time in years, and I assume that's because Jose wants Schurrle to play on that flank opposite Hazard on the left.
December 11, 201411 yr Can't see it being depression but you never know. That would surprise me greatly if it was though. <br /> <br /> Hopefully just a translation thing and it's all not as serious as we fear.
December 11, 201411 yr There was some rumors circulating for quite a while on twitter that he got infected with Ebola during World Cup. I'm not sure how true is that but people were talking about it shortly after World Cup so perhaps they knew something.
December 11, 201411 yr If Schurrle had Ebola he'd still be in some quarantine facility at Heathrow airport.
December 11, 201411 yr Whilst I agree that he's under performed this season, I've got a real soft spot for him. I love his directness and off the ball movement and understand why I think he said Lampard was his favourite player growing up. Whilst Willian is technically better, I personally prefer Schurrle just for his goal threat and think he has a far higher ceiling-just watch him for Germany!
December 11, 201411 yr He score goals, something we desperately needs when Costa is going through a bit of low.
