Paul Pogba - Needs to Sign!

Featured Replies

How so?

Willian can play the central attacking midfield role can he not....

Not to a high enough standard for a team challenging for top honours.

As for Pogba, €60 million for a player who was in EXACTLY the same position as Loftus-Cheek was just 3 years ago seems a massive waste. Our starting midfield is excellent but needs reinforcements, not rebuilding. Move on Ramires and Mikel, promote Loftus-Cheek and possibly Chalobah and sign someone who can cover those deeper positions, like Khedira.

Oscar doesn't perform anywhere near good enough either after the festive period while Willian has only played in that role a few times this season and IMO has impressed while playing there.

I'd happily see Pogba come in and move Cesc further up, we'd be a more blanced unit that way.

Problem is the fee, anything over £40 million is a huge risk and I'm not too sure he's worth that kind of money yet.

Technically Swansea was after the festive period, but I get your point. Problem is that few players have performed to the standard they were before Christmas, but Oscar has at least had months of good form in that position. Tell me one calender month in Willian's 8 year career when he's had the same.

Don't quite get the obsession with moving Fabregas forward when he pulls the strings for us in 80% of our matches from that deeper position. For the other 20% I agree we could do with some more steel but do we need Pogba for that?

He doesn't have a keeper on his bench! Plus I don't see Mikel on there anywhere, he clearly has no idea what he's doing.

(Fairly sure that picture is about a year old)

we have traore out on loan too who can come back; we also have baker, loftus cheek. we could sign a schneidelin, vidal or gundogan without breaking the bank. i would like to see what hazard could do in the no10 role, and put willian on the left (or buy a left sided winger) and use cuadrado on the right.

barak mate youre a loon if you think frikin aaron ramsey is anywhere near as good pogba hahahahhhaaa

corker

Great argument, name calling but actual zero ability to back it up with an actual argument beyond a reputation built on playing in Italy

A month of high quality play or a season of quality play. Thats the question isnt it. For me they could both be improved upon as a number ten, but I feel we are better as a team with Willian there and we can afford to play an actual winger on the right. For me; they have about the same amount of excellent games during a season, only difference is Willian spreads it over the season while Oscar condenses it down to 1-2 months. What tips the scale for me is how subpar Oscar plays when he is off

It was going so well until that last bit.

Respectfully disagree.. I don't think it can be proven to the counter. Stats wise there is not a lot between them and ramsay plays in a far better league for not the best team in that league. Ramsey was injured, look at arsenal's run this last couple of months, it wasn't alexis inspired, it's Ramsey inspired, he's is best center mid in the country and in my opinion. (in part thanks to toure being lazy) when watching arsenal it's such a pleasure to watch Ramsey moment, vision and technique. He would be the replacement for Lampard. That's not to say pogba isn't an excellent player, just given the option I'd put my money in my pocket and try and push Baker and RLC. But If you told me I had to pick one it would be Ramsey.

Im guessing that you watch June every week so you may have a small advantage on me in terms of assessing pogba

That's fair enough, you're entitled to your opinion.

I agree Ramsey is a good player and Arsenal fans that I know in general rate him far higher than Wilshere, but they also say he can be extremely frustrating at times. Shooting when he dosen't need too, his weight of pass being off quite a bit in general and at times lacking decent defensive capabilities. He does have certain attributes similar to Lamps but he's not as all round I don't think. Lampard's range of passing was extremely underrated by some.

Now on to Pogba, regardless if he's tearing it up in Serie A which we all know has gone down in recent years, there is a reason why literally every top club is after him and not Aaron Ramsey. I can't name a more complete midfielder in world football than Pogba, he has everything. That's what I feel Chelsea lack at the minute, someone who will outmuscle someone in midfield, burst forward and smash it top corner. At times, it's just too slow and sluggish and the opponent can get back into their defensive line.

At times he can be reasonably lazy with his defensive capabilities but under José that would not happen. Whilst I respect your opinion on Ramsey, I don't think he's as good as Pogba. I've watched Juve about six or seven times this year which is not much to judge but he's been pheneomenal in 5 of them and good in 2.

I want us to promote our youth as much as anyone, it gives you a connection to the club when players break through as they know what Chelsea is all about and aren't here just for the wage packet. However, if I remember a few seasons back when City won the league and then didn't improve or strengthen their line up whatsoever, the same feeling will be here if we don't sign someone of Pogba's calibre this year.

Did they have anyone in their academy as good as Loftus-Cheek coming through?

Arsenal fans I know criticise Ramsay a lot. They say he looks good on the highlights but over 90 minutes he is often found wanting. Yes he is a better player than Wilshere, for sure, and I like him, but it's worth remembering Wenger leaves him out quite a bit in important games, Monaco away for example.

Regarding Pogba, I don't want him. He'll cost the earth and I'd rather we spent the money elsewhere and put our faith in Loftus-Cheek, who is the real deal and is one of our own.

That's that then.

Not going to happen as I see it, just won't able to afford him under the FFP. We could have saved the 25M on Currado for Porga.

Not true.

The new 40m Yokohoma deal plus Torres off the wage book would dramatically increase our chances of signing him. Last season, I would have said no but I actually think we have a chance.

Not to mention that massive new TV deal for the BPL, thats going to significantly increase the spending power of all BPL clubs.

Traore still doesn't have a work permit so he'll be off on loan again. Shame though because he's another interesting player.

Yeah Im not too crazy avout Pogba either. If he comes, cool, If he doesnt I really dont care. Id rather spend money somewere else tbh.

Interesting, also might show that Cavani doesn't fancy England

Or England doesn't fancy him. I would be surprised if any top four side in epl would buy him, especially if they've been watching him recently; he doesn't look clinical at all.

Yeah could be right but were he available at a certain price then I think there'd be a few clubs in England looking at him.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just an update on this one as I think people know by now that I want Pogba to join us however unlikely it may be.

Massive news going round that Real and Atleti have transfer bans coming up for the same reason as Barca.

This puts us and PSG are front runners now, along with possibly City just behind.

I'll keep everyone up to date.

Disagree I think Willian is a better number 10 than Oscar and we are talking in the capacity of a backup number 10, even cuadrado can play number 10 i would happily give up Oscar for a chance at pogba and I'd rather see him go than Ramires who brings something different to the team
