Already signed a new 6 year contract about 2 months ago. If it was any other club I'd say there is no chance he will go, but it's real and they do make some ridiculous decisions.

They sold Di Maria, so never say never. I personally don't think we will get him, as Zouma a great prospect.

Bothered by it? Not really. Would I like more English players to play for us, of course I would but only if they are good enough.

What I never understand is why people call for the likes of Piazon to be playing for us when he isnt up to the standard that we need to be winning everything. Why water down a side just to bring a few kids through. But anyway thats a totally different subject.

I reckon we have a chance, if Madrid signs another 80M player next season, may sell him for the luiz price.

PSG defender David Luiz could help former side Chelsea clinch a £20million deal for Manchester United target and Real Madrid youngster Raphael Varane.

The curly-haired Brazilian departed Stamford Bridge last summer for a fee of around £40m, with Jose Mourinho preferring the defensive partnership of Gary Cahill and John Terry at the back.

The subsequent money taken from Luiz's transfer to Ligue 1 helped to fund the captures of Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa, and despite his hasty exit, the former Benfica man remains a fan favourite in west London.

However, reports in France claim that Real Madrid are plotting a sensational summer swoop in a bid to replace the ageing Pepe.

Carlo Ancelotti is keen to pair Sergio Ramos with another ball-playing centre-back in order to make his team the ultimate attacking force, and could launch a £50m bid at the end of the current campaign.

A move for Luiz would open the door for Chelsea to finally capture Varane, with Mourinho previously admitting his admiration for the France international following their days together at the Santiago Bernabeu.

But my God how funny would it be if selling Luiz to Real somehow let us land Varane. Oh dear.

While I can see Real being stupid enough to play serious money for David Luiz, no world I live in has ever been kind enough to give us Varane for £20m - no chance.

Last I saw we were being linked with a summer move for Ramos.

Where has this 20m figure even come from? It's a preposterously low amount in this day and age for a 21 year old who has already proved that he can perform at the highest level against the very best in the world and has the potential to be THE best central defender over the next 10 years. When you also factor in the absolute dearth of quality CBs around, to the extent that we have to accept the "Vincent Kompany is world class" media charade simply due to the lack of alternatives, it makes absolutely no sense.

 

And for those saying "well, it's Real Madrid...they're muppets", sure, they can be. And sure, they could be foolish enough to sell him. But while Real have a habit of going for the latest shiny keychain dangled in front of their faces, they also have a habit of selling the old one for exorbitant prices. 20m? In a market where practically every top team is looking for a quality CB? In a market where Luke Shaw goes for 30m and David Luiz goes for 40m? After they've just signed him to a new contract? Doesn't make any sense. Not even for Real Madrid.

 

Of course, despite having said all that, I hope I'm completely wrong and I hope he comes to us, even if it won't be for 20m. If it comes to a choice between Pogba for 70m and Varane for 40, I'd take Varane every single day. He would be absolutely perfect for us. He would be perfect for pretty much any top team, really. Which is why I don't see Real selling him for anything less than 30m, and they'd be mad to even do that.

Rather we just kept Courtois. Give them Cech if that helps us get Varane if Cech wants to leave which I'm sure he would.

Varane plus cash for Courtois? That would be a great deal for us as unlikely as it is. As Smacky the frog said, there is a dearth of world class centrebacks and Varane could potentially be one for the next 10-15 years. 

 

I have no clue as to why Madrid would want to even consider selling a player like Varane. But if they are desperate to land a top keeper, maybe this is the opportunity to grab him.

Give courtois away? Seriously? No chance, there's a huge dearth of top quality keepers in football, we Have one of the best that has many many years ahead of him. There's no way we should even consider this, no matter how good varane is perceived to be.

If he comes I'm just going to call him Ralph.

We're pretty much set in the goalkeeping department for the next ten years, so why potentially create a new problem so we can fix another? Who would we even replace Courtois with (long-term)?

Whilst the combination of Varane and Zouma looks ideal, to put them together at such a young age is massive risk.

If you look at John Terry for example he had Desailly for experience and an older head with a young one has tended to reap rewards over the years.

I would be surprised if we got Varane in the summer, once Zouma is consistently our main man maybe but not now.

If there was a way to get Varane while keeping Courtois, that would be ideal obviously. But if it is a choice between the two, I would have to pick Varane simply because we have a world class goalkeeper sitting on the bench.

Also I think the number of world class centre backs around is actually zero at the moment. Perhaps Thiago Silva, but I don't watch him enough to be sure. Varane could well be a once in a generation defender imo. I know that sounds exaggerated but I've felt that every time I've seen him play.

It's not an easy decision by any means, and like I said before, any such deal is highly unlikely so it's all pretty moot anyway.

There are quite a few center backs around Varane's level, potential and age (Marquinhos, Laporte, Gimenez, etc), most of whom are attainable. I can't say the same when it comes to Courtois though.
