March 29, 201511 yr apparently jt was booed after all, when his name was read out and his first few touches. My Liverpool supporting mate was at the game and said most people round him were booing him. f**king idiots. Yup, as expected.
March 29, 201511 yr If you read this thread you'll get an idea of how much they hate him. Edit: Oops sorry forgot to post the thread .. http://www.redandwhitekop.com/forum/index.php?topic=320218.0 f**king w**kers. It's a charity game and they are still a bunch of assholes. I see a lot of them bring up the whole "Terry is a racist" bullsh*t...........but then they cheer Suarez who actually admitted to be racist to Evra Liverpool fans are the worst of the lot. Did he realy dive in a charity game? The guy is an embarrassment to the game. To dive in a charity match is pathetic. When he retires i hope he looks back at his career and feels ashamed of the way he has been. apparently jt was booed after all, when his name was read out and his first few touches. My Liverpool supporting mate was at the game and said most people round him were booing him. f**king idiots. Like i said above, they are f**king w**kers. I'm glad i spent my birthday doing something other than watch this game
March 30, 201511 yr Any particular reason Lamps wasn't cosidered for the charity match? I presume that Bitterpool did not want Lamps to yet again upstage Gerrard on his home pitch.
March 30, 201511 yr I was very surprised JT took part..,not just cos of Liverpool fans predictably being dicks but him and Gerrard didn't appear to get on that great on England stage
March 30, 201511 yr The atmosphere is a bit tame for my liking, but then again this is Anfield. Ah...Anfield. Let me tell you a history...or perhaps an history.... A few years back now, think it was about 07 or 08 I was staying with a bloke I do a lot of work with in Sydney & it happened to coincide with ourlot playing pool at Anfield. He's dyed in the wool pool this bloke - born & raised there but emigrated down here 40 odd years ago. So naturally we both stay up late to watch the game. The players are in the boxy tunnel at the foot of the steps. The camera, as it always does, shows the famous sign above the steps that says "This is Anfield". As it does this I chuckle, and the exchange went something like this: Him: "What's so funny?" Me: "oh nothing - just the spelling." Him: "What do you mean?" Me: "Well, the bloke who originally owned Anfield, Orrell, I think his name was - he had a speech impediment." Him: "So?" Me: "Well the story goes that when the toffees first signed the lease, there was a mistake made in the name on account of the legal clerk misunderstanding Orrell. Because of the speech impediment, the clerk wrote "anfield" instead of "a field". Anyway, the name stuck because Orrell was too embarrassed to point it out. So that's how a field became anfield." Him: "Bullsh*t." Me: "No - true story. And now every time I see that sign I can't help myself." Since that time he still questions me about it: where did you read this...how do you know etc etc. Apparently he's done a great deal of research on it but can't find a thing. When he goes back to pool every other year (family etc) he's even questioned various Anfield ground staff! He knows I read widely - I usually get vague or fob him off somehow - usually by saying that pool is nothing but an history or is it a history? I think he's pretty sure I made it up but can never really bring himself to the point of accusing me of making it up. It's reached the stage now where even he jokes about it & has started to tell other scousers the story so he says. It's all too beautiful. Edited March 30, 201511 yr by youlots
March 30, 201511 yr All I know is that Everton originally played at and owned Anfield. They were there for 7 years before the split that saw Liverpool being created. Anfield was probably robbed from Everton or at the very least it's a second hand ground.
March 30, 201511 yr Didnt see the game, but from this article and comments, it seems that Terry was applauded, as well as booed a little.. http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/mar/29/liverpool-fernando-torres-luis-suarez-steven-gerrard-charity-jamie-carragherdidier-drogba-john-terry I think he earned a bit of respect for turning up, he had no need to and it will have helped his image a bit.
March 30, 201511 yr I was very surprised JT took part..,not just cos of Liverpool fans predictably being dicks but him and Gerrard didn't appear to get on that great on England stage Just goes to show doesn't it really... All those stories that were coming out around the time of JT being stripped of the captaincy and saying he divided the dressing room and here he is being invited by one of the most influential members of the England squad for the last 10 years to play in his testimonial charity match. Maybe ol' JT isn't as bad as some people would like us to believe?
March 30, 201511 yr Gerrard looks to get on well with Terry as did Carjacker. I think the vast majority of footballers respect Terry and the way he has always come across when speaking is he's pretty down to earth and a nice bloke. The media obviously has him tainted during his earlier days and he made mistakes but so do most young players who lives are played out in the media.
March 30, 201511 yr John Barnes is back on the institutional racism bandwagon. "A white manager loses his job and gets another job, he loses his job, he gets another job," Barnes said on ITV. "Very few black managers can lose their job and get another job." This is John Barnes who has held 3 managerial posts. Celtic (Jun 1999 - Feb 2000) Jamaica (Sep 2008 - Jun 2009) Tranmere (Jun 2009 - Oct 2009) So who exactly is he referring to? Paul Ince perhaps? 2006–2007 Macclesfield Town 2007–2008 Milton Keynes Dons 2008 Blackburn Rovers 2009–2010 Milton Keynes Dons 2010–2011 Notts County 2013–2014 Blackpool Nope... Erm, Chris Powel! 2010 Leicester City (caretaker) 2011–2014 Charlton Athletic 2014– Huddersfield Town No? Okay, Ruud Guillet? 1996–1998 Chelsea 1998–1999 Newcastle United 2004–2005 Feyenoord 2007–2008 Los Angeles Galaxy 2011 Terek Grozny ...Oh I know, Chris Houghton! 1998–2008 Tottenham Hotspur (assistant) 2008 Newcastle United (caretaker) 2009–2010 Newcastle United 2011–2012 Birmingham City 2012–2014 Norwich City 2014– Brighton & Hove Albion *gives up.... walks away*
March 30, 201511 yr The only reason John Barnes can't get back into management is that he is incredibly bad at it. Using race to cover your own failings is cowardly and very counterproductive; it is going to make those who make very valid complaints of racial discrimination in employment seem less credible. "Envy is the gun of the incompetent" to quote José

"Envy is the gun of the incompetent" to quote José Well Ian Wright disagrees. “With someone of John Barnes’ ability and stature, to not have worked more in the game with something that he’s desperate to do. I don’t know what else it can be [his race].” Nope Wrighty is erm... Righty, it can't possibly be that the best players don't make the best managers and that John Barnes is just rubbish at football management. Nope, definitely because he's black that he can't get a job. No black man is able to make a career out of football management. Racism plain and simple.
March 30, 201511 yr Sol Campbell's the worst, saying if he were White he's have captained England. It's like no maybe because mentally your a flake Sol is why you have never been captain material.
March 30, 201511 yr Some people are just blinkered in that they cannot deal with the fact they might not actually be good enough to be managers or captains so using their race is an easy excuse to cover the cracks. Maybe in Russia or another backwards country they would have a case but we live in one of the most diverse and multi-cultural countries about. No one is saying racism does not exist here or anything like that but the reason for the above examples not getting what they feel they are due is solely down to a lack of ability for that role rather than the colour of their skin.
March 30, 201511 yr Sol Campbell's the worst, saying if he were White he's have captained England. It's like no maybe because mentally your a flake Sol is why you have never been captain material. Sol Campbell's England career overlapped playing in sides containing Tony Adams, Alan Shearer, David Beckham, John Terry, Steven Gerrard (off the top of my head). Basically the England team was littered with iconic players and captains. Considering Campell once walked out on his team at half time saying "I can't do this anymore" I'm really not sure he's in a position to be saying he should have led the team over the players I mentioned.

He got a bit of experience being an assistant at a couple of clubs and has been willing to go to a lower league side and prove his worth... He's currently top of League 2 with Burton as well so rather than whining like a little bitch to ITV or the The Sun he's gone out there and proved he is capable. Now, if it was so hard for black coaches to get work, how has a Dutchman managed to succeed where the likes of Barnes and Campbell are supposedly finding resistance? Maybe, just maybe Jimmy is willing to work for his reputation as a top coach and not just have it handed to him on a silver platter because of his achievements during his playing days?
March 30, 201511 yr Campbell was never captain material IMO at club level let alone country. No but don't let that get in the way of a good story!
Gerrard clearly dislikes Rio. He has had a few digs over the years, particularly when he was England captain and Rio had retired from England duty. To give you two examples, when Rio dropped out of the England squad and flew to Dubai instead (despite his supposed back problem) the England fans sang rather rude songs about Rio at the next England game. When quizzed about it Gerrard said they had every right to sing what they liked, despite the fact the songs caused a lot of controversy, supposed racial overtones and all that. Also, when Rio retired he immediately started criticising the England set-up. Gerrard responded by saying he wasn't interested in what he had to say. It is telling that Rio wasn't invited to yesterday's game and JT was. The media will have you believe Terry undermined Gerrard the two times he went to international tournaments with Gerrard as his captain. From my perspective, all I saw was JT give his all for the cause and do his best for the team, as ever. It seems Gerrard clearly feels the same and there is no animosity between them. Regarding the way Terry is viewed by his fellow professionals generally, well, since the Wayne Bridge saga, JT hasn't made the PFA team of the year once, whereas before he always made it. I mean, players like Coloccini and Richard Dunne have made it but not JT. Last year Cahill made it instead of JT, which is unthinkable really. Be interesting to see whether JT makes it this term but if he doesn't I think that would tell us everything we need to know about how he is viewed.
March 30, 201511 yr This highlights just what a prick sol Campbell is perfectly:-) Immodest Campbell lets his ego do the talking A few weeks back, the sports minister, Helen Grant, arranged a summit at Whitehall to discuss why there are so few black managers and coaches in the game. Senior figures from the Football Association were there, along with the Premier League, the Professional Footballers’ Association and the Football League. There were guests from Kick It Out and Show Racism the Red Card and Sol Campbell also received an invitation, as an ex-England player who is frustrated, understandably, by the lack of opportunities. What Campbell does not appear to realise, perhaps, is that the best way to get a point across is without ego or too much self-esteem. On this occasion he wanted the FA’s technical director, Dan Ashworth, to explain why Gary Neville had been fast-tracked through the system to become one of Roy Hodgson’s assistants with the England team. Ashworth started talking about the favourable impression Neville had made on Hodgson and the players and was running through the processes that were involved when Campbell put out his hand to interrupt him. This is when things started to get a little strange. “But I am Sol Campbell.” As you might imagine, that isn’t a particularly easy sentence to come back from. Ashworth did his best to continue because, well, what else could he do? But it is fair to say the entire room had been engulfed in awkwardness and when Ashworth stopped talking there was another tumbleweed moment. Campbell, hand out, ended the conversation in the same way he had started it. “But I am Sol Campbell.” He was correct. But whether he gets an invitation the next time there is one of these discussions is not entirely clear.
March 30, 201511 yr Campbell was never captain material IMO at club level let alone country. Agreed as I said he didn't have it mentally. Guy was a good player in his day but he proved that as he started to get older he wasn't a clever footballer. Regardless of his size he was quite a quick guy and he used that a lot to get himself out of bother. Yet when the pace went he turned into an average player. Just shows how good guys like Adams and Terry were/are as they can read the game. Rio Ferdinand was the same as Sol as soon as the pace went he turned into a bad player.
