It's hard to believe, watching this, that either side can challenge for the title next season. Utd need to sort out their defence, badly (not buying more forwards and attacking midfielders) and Arsenal need to play for a whole match.

It depends on who comes in, I reckon Arsenal will be same old Arsenal next season as I don't see them buying 3 top players that they need but United will be dangerous if they strengthen where they should.

Arsenal are closer at the moment but it comes down to the summer business. United need to sort out the entire spine of their team but they have the resources. Arsenal need to buy quality in a couple of positions.

For me the only team close to us is City and they've been poor this season but they need the least strengthening in my opinion. I can see some of their players who have been written off been up for it again next season. Seems to be the City way, one season in form, the next not.

Man utd i'm sure will sell De Gea, and they may well try to use that transfer to bring in Bale. They will probably enquire about Cech as well a Arsenal will, though hopefully he goes abroad.

Arsenal I don't think will make many signings. Maybe just a couple of younger players from foreign leagues who will play bit parts.

I don't think it's just a simple case of arsenal buying players though...they don't have the mental toughness to really compete at the very highest level and money can't buy that

I'm not sure van Gaal is good enough to make Utd what they were either...looked like ranieri in disguise for most of the season, changing formations and players every week...also a bit mad...saying sh*t like arsenal are a better team than chelsea

Given it looks like De Gea is on his way would like to think we'll refuse to sell Cech to United or Arsenal... if Cech wants to leave hopefully the club will only agree to sell to Spurs (assuming Cech is happy in London and Lloris subsequently joins United).

I'd be fine with that but I still think he's off to PSG anyway

congratulations to fellow league champion, barcelona ::clap2::

fantastic game by pedro, judging by his game today i don't mind at all if we got him

Ugh hate them but congratulations, probably going to be the first of their treble this season

Pedro's class would love him here but I think he'd be as frustrated here as he is there.

I would have loved Atletico to win it, but they just weren't on that level this season, but they are promising, should they keep their players they'll be back in it.

But Barcelona over Madrid any day for me.

from Red and White Kop (Liverpool forum)

"Is there any super-resourceful superfan who would be able to compile together all of the quotes about Gerrard from top coaches and players?

We are seeing pretty amazing quotes from Zidane, Pirlo, Totti and others - beyond even my own expectations, where some of them go as far as saying that he was the very best midfielder in the world - and it would be nice to see them all in one place"

If theres one thing better than a nice quote its having loads of nice quotes in one place!

(asked on what they should do with the number 8 shirt)

'Me personally, I would semi-retire it. As in, not hand it over at all lightly.

It will only fit a huge character who has proven their worth. Treat it like Excalibur; plenty can have a shot at being considered worthy of claiming it, but only a true future king actually has what it takes to get it'
