Youth Champions League

Featured Replies

5 minutes left but the match is pretty much over as a contest. We've stopped playing, Boga and Musonda are off (for Palmer and Abraham) and Shakhtar are having the majority of the ball but can't do too much with it.

Can't do anything silly but this has been a pretty comprehensive win. Slacked off in the first-half and let them back in it, but came out on fire in the second-half (again) and have been a class above. Delighted for this class and Aidy. Such an exciting team.

We have the best academy in Europe and this team is the best youth team I've seen us produce.

We need at least 3 of these players to make it here or Jose will have failed.

If you believe any one of them will make it, I have a bridge to sell you.

Did you hear the Jose's comment about bringing on Zouma for Drogba because he views Izzy as winger?

I did and at first I was dismayed but Brown's great strength is coming in from the wing and breaking into space whereas I think he thought Zouma would provide a better aerial threat.

I think there's too much talent in this team for a few not to make it. If not then I think his position is under threat.

That's a great win and statement from the youth team.  Would love to see some of them break through but if Jose hasn't even realised what position someone like Izzy Brown plays it's going to be difficult for them.

Not to put a downer on it all, but without actually giving some of these lads a chance, what exactly is the point?

They've increased their value at least so perhaps better teams would chance on them on a loan.

Next up the FA Youth Cup!

Stop moaning...

No, he's right.

It's a stick I hate to beat us with but it is true. Who was the last big name to come through our youth system and stay with us?

Looking at the performances som of our players have put in this year I cant see some of the youth players doing much worse. Would love to wrap up the title early and give some of them valuable minutes. Knowing José he will probably choose his strongest eleven regardless

Of the players that were on the pitch today RLC, Boga, Musonda, Solanke and Brown have that little extra to make it as top players. Just need to put some faith in them

Are we the first English team to win both the Champions League and the Youth Champions League?

Yes, we are the only English team to have ever won it at all.

(Definitely not important to consider - this is only the second season the competition has existed.)

Izzy Brown is unreal talent.

He's a decent player but I wouldn't call him an unreal talent. Im not an experienced youth watcher or anything but I'm not sure he has what it takes to make it at Chelsea. That may also be because of his position though. I don't see us bringing a youth striker through, maybe he should focus even more on the wings. To my untrained eye Boga, Musonda and RLC look like better talents.

So that's the Cup Winners Cup, Super Cup, Europa League, Champions League, and now Youth League!

Bring back the Intertoto Cup, we'll win that as well!

Youth gets its chance to shine
Borne of a request from the European Club Association, the UEFA Youth League places development at its heart and enjoyed a successful first season in 2013/14.

Times are changing. With FFP now kicking in and in some ways dictating our transfer activity...these kids might be a big part of our future.

Totally agree. Brown is a weird one. He doesn't have the touch or technique of the players you mentioned but he's got a good motor, he does what's asked of him and he's quite productive.

Not sure he has that x-factor needed here though.
