That's also been a struggle for us in terms of managers over the last several years and Tuchel seems to be much better at that. Even Lampard who we had high hopes for in terms of keeping a squad united and such seemed to struggle with that. So far, Tuchel is doing great.

November 26, 20214 yr Big opportunity for him bu thr looks of things on Sunday. Hope he really take the game by the neck and shows the player we all hoped he would become.
November 28, 20214 yr He was average but couldn't quite power through the midfield like he has done in previous games
November 28, 20214 yr What an opportunity missed, seems to be the story of his career so far. Where was the powerful runs from deep, the clever footwork and desire to make things happen? It's not like he didn't have plenty of opportunities to attempt it, he just didn't for some reason. Like he suddenly no longer had the confidence and retreated into his shell. Competition in that area is the strongest it's ever been and it felt like Loftus-Cheek blew the chance to show Tuchel that he is capable of making as much of an impact as Kante or Kovacic. Be even harder for him next season if Gallagher stays.

There were times where he had space to run into but played the safe option or held on to it for too long. With the amount of possession we had, the bare minimum we should expect from him is to be calm on the ball.

He wasn't great by any stretch and I'm still not convinced by him, but he did get better as the game went on. But games like these he needs to dominate and he wasn't able to. Hear so often how he is described as a "Rolls Royce" of a footballer and maybe on his day he is but no it's no good if the Rolls Royce doesn't often make it out of the garage.
November 28, 20214 yr Looked lazy at times today, strolling around the pitch. Was better in the last 20mins, but was awful/invisible before that
November 28, 20214 yr I was recently slaughtered on one of the recent matchday threads just for pointing out how RLC is just soft and doesn't have the right personality to succeed in a club like Chelsea. This was another example of it. As for being calm and collected, it's easy when you always take the safest option available. The position he plays calls for leadership, he's the opposite of that, he hides. I realize how much people want our academy graduates to succeed, but he's clearly lacking in mentality department.
November 28, 20214 yr Not his best game but still our best midfielder today. We dominated their midfield but he couldn’t have the impact of other games.

Harsh for me, he got caught in possession at least one (my stream played up) made some good passes. Came close to scoring with a header and had at least one shot charged down.

We have seen what he can do at his best though, he set his own standards for what is and what isn't a good performance, so when he puts in performances like he did today, it's really disappointing. Today was nothing like the Loftus-Cheek we have seen so far this season. He was almost an entirely different player. All of Loftus-Cheek's best moments this season has been from him picking the ball up in midfield, bursting forward or holding off players with his strength and beating them with a bit of clever footwork. The Loftus-Cheek we got today was something you would expect to see from your typical average midfielder. There was none of the flair, none of the power and none of the running from midfield. I also thought he should have buried that header, he was unmarked. Edited November 28, 20214 yr by Scott Harris

Not awful but waaaaay too passive for such a big game. Off the ball in attack he was a complete passenger which is unacceptable really. But still he needed this chance to see if he can be trusted in these games and now we have our answer.
November 28, 20214 yr Think Saul should take his place against Watford. Like many today he blew his chance.

November 29, 20214 yr I think we all knew that Loftus Cheek is not comfortable on a 2 man midfield because positionally he is not disciplined and defensively he needs to work much harder. Tuchel picked him because of necessity rather than choice. 3 man midfield would be perfect for him so he can have those runs. Same with conor gallagher, in my opinion he would be too lightweight to play in the middle in the current system.

What is is position? I see him as an attacking midfielder. That was not his position yesterday.
