Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Featured Replies

Wow he really is something else when he gets going. Did well to set Kai up twice and there was one moment in the first half (I think) that was just majestic. He was very good from an attacking point of view and mostly did well protecting the ball and driving through midfield. Got lucky twice though that his giveaways didn't result in good Malmö chances.

I always find watching him that I want a bit more. He drives into space very well and uses his powerful body to turn defenders. Needs to just add a little more end product , another though that has taken his chance well.

I know what you mean, I often think the same, but yesterday he did exactly what you just asked of him. He created two one on one's for Kai and was genereally very involved in the attacking game.

The best thing about this season for me. I've lost all hope after terrible loan at Fulham but damn, he is starting look like the Loftus Cheek under Sarri. Long may it continue, I'm loving every minute of it!

He just needs to concentrate a bit when on the ball. I think he unnecessarily rushes to a decision sometimes, which leads to giving the ball away in dangerous area (yesterday it happened twice). Otherwise what he's showing is pretty good, but I'm certain he can do even better.

"Too talented to just be part of the group"

Got a funny feeling Tuchel is going to develop him into a dominant midfielder for us. He's got all the tools to do so and now he's got a manager that fully believes in him so the sky is the limit here.

I agree he had an excellent match. What  I was alluding to, there was one move in the second half, he’d used his body really well to turn the defender on the halfway. From there he drove forward but released a pass to the left, the move came to nothing. I found myself shouting ‘ drive into the space Ruben you have the ability, they aren’t stopping you’.  He reminds me a lot of Yaya and with a good run in team, he has the ability to dominate midfield.

He's built like a tank I don't know why he is always getting injured.

He was a small kid who had a tremendous growth spurt when he reached 16-17years old. That will always lead to injuries then you add the workload of a pro athlete on top of that.

Top player and Tuchel is getting a lot out of him, but he can still do more. Once he starts building some momentum from this consistent game time I think he will start to imprint himself on this squad.

He's got all the characteristics to dominate a midfield and then consequently a match. He just needs to concentrate more and avoid losing the ball in our own half, sometimes he dribbles when a simple pass would be the better option.

Once he improves his overall decision making, he will be a beast! He's already got the technique, physicality and football IQ to become one of the best players in the league and perhaps the world.

Tuchel is probably the first manager he has played under that will play him in his natual position. Sarri played him as an ACM, Conte bizarrely thought he could be a striker, Mourinho would sub him at half time when he was putting in a motm performance and then leave him out for months after. Even at Fulham I heard he was played out of position. Tuchel is the only one that is playing him regularly as a CM.

Years ago we were saying on here that Loftus-Cheek looks better picking the ball up in CM and driving forward with the ball. It has always been his biggest strength and it always baffled me that former managers wouldn't take advantage of that. What he needs to work on now is his decision making once he gets himself into a dangerous position.

Sarri got the best out of him so far, I wouldn’t say he played in that role though. He did play a bit deeper and managed to drive the ball up the pitch. Kante seemed to be encouraged to get further forward than him but maybe I’m just misremembering because Kante is everywhere at all times.

I don't think I've seen a player in the league who's better at evading the press, unbelievable quality. The other player who is close is Kovacic - so lucky to have them both!

i think with Sarri he playes on the left of a three which reduced his options and space.. in the center it gives him even more space and options to become even more effective.

One major difference between Jose and Tuchel is Jose discards a player immediately if he makes a defensive mistake/takes a chance that can leave defense fragile. Thus by saying do what you want/can but never be a liability for defense. Tuchel wants players to collectively defend but lets them do the decisions on field. If a player makes a defensive mistake he is not discarded as long as team mate bails him out.

Jose's style is 2005, Tuchel's 2020. Players want to express themselves and play in a certain way.
