Ruben Loftus-Cheek

In the current formation i dont see anywhere for him to play. Alot of fans on Twitter want him to stay but he's 26, he needs to play. The emergence of Mount and the signing of Havertz and his own injuries ended his Chelsea career i feel.

I still couldn't tell you his best position which for a 25 year old tells you a lot.

I think the most advanced of a midfield 3 is the only place ive seen him look quality.

For 10 games before that injury, he looked like he was about explode onto the scene, but that injury killed his momentum, his confidence, and ultimately his Chelsea career.

Heard Matt Law on a pod cast saying that he knows that RLC wants to stay and wants to do a preseason with us. I think he will do a preseason as I’m sure TT would like to see for himself but I suspect that he could be sold on at the end of the window.

Great talent but unfortunately just hasn’t worked for him here. Still a young man and if he leaves I hope he can have a good career somewhere in the top divisions.

Neither do his managers they just seem to improvise as they go along. Jose put him as a DM, Conte as a ST, Roy as a LM, Parker put him wherever.

And that's the problem with RLC, what strengths does he have that make you a better team?

Does he have the passing range or defensive abilities to play deep in midfield?

Does he have the speed, goal scoring ability, skill etc to play in the forward positions?

He's a talented player no question but I just don't think a coach knows where to play him that'll benefit the team ahead of other players.

For Chelsea would I realistically expect him to get game time ahead of Mount, Havertz, Kovacic or even Gilmour? No.

I think he has a lot of good attributes but nothing special. He’s quick across the ground when he builds up speed but not explosive acceleration and not world class delivery so isn’t suited to a winger. Got decent passing but not mobile enough to be a central midfielder. Hasn’t got the killer instinct of a striker even though he’s a decent finisher. He hasn’t got the defensive ability to play defensive midfielder either. He’s a very good footballer but hasn’t got stand out attributes to nail a position. I’d say going forward he either needs to reimagine himself to be a deep lying playmaker or a false 9 like havertz has been used

I think his injuries killed his mobility, to stop aggravating them he has to limit his movement.

This takes a lot from his game.

I notice a similar thing with Barkley's movement though Barkley is a better shot taker and set piece delivery taker than RLC.

It's a shame for both.

Oh definitely! There was a time when I thought he could be a yaya toure in midfield for us. His injuries did stop him in his tracks

Yes I also thought he was going to be a powerful attacking midfielder..............

Terrible shame really. That f**king friendly in the US was a disaster and arguably ended his career with us. For 2 months he looked to be on his way to being one of the best around. CHO and RLC, could have been elite but injuries ended that for them inside a month of each other.

I agree with @goosethat I hope he can have a great career somewhere else in the top flight. For mine he will be a player who needs a system built around him. Needs to be the 10.

IF he still has the chronic problems that need managed then theres every chance he himself will hold back, you can see he rarely now gets into full stride, it could very easily be a mental thing. Its a massive shame as I still think he had the potential to be an incredible player for us, and he is exactly the type of player we desperately needed at times last season.

Yes he might be holding himself back I noticed at Fulham a few times he sprinted, though just a few.

I love Ruben as a player, I still think he's one of if not the most talented youngster that has come through our academy. Really doesn't look like he's going to make it with us now though, although I hope I'm wrong. The injury killed all his momentum. He had a year out of the game which is a huge amount, he's had 1 season back under his belt with Fulham which would have done him the world of good, although he'd have been nowhere near his best. I think a season long loan move to Lazio would be absolutely perfect for him and I think he'd do really well. Not sure he'll be with us long term though no matter how well he does.

Here's a link from The 5th Stand, Chelsea FC's official app: Loftus-Cheek feeling fitter than ever

Some positive words from Rubes. I also feel he might be a part of this season as the club is bringing him up all the time. I feel they wouldn't if they knew he is most likely departing.

In that friendly he looked that powerful and pacy Ruben we remember from Sarri's time. He really was one of our best players back then.

I was wondering how Tuchel sees him. Jorginho's role in the midfield is unique but our other midfielders are more versatile. Everyone can advance and make interceptions.

If we are after Rice I don't know what it means for Ruben. I think for sure Kante, Jorginho and Kovacic all are staying put...

If this will happen and he will prove himself, this would be the transfer. Never lost faith in RLC.

I would love for that to be the case. He's had such bad luck in his Chelsea career.

Just not sure he’s suited to a midfield two

I don't think RLC will ever get a game in the double pivot considering how he looked there in pre-season. He was all over the place and I lost count how many times he gave the ball away in terrible positions.

Saul added, so now even less of a chance to RLC.  Surprised he's not on loan.  Unless TT plans on maybe changing up tactics to a 4-3-3 for some games, I'm not sure he gets much time, sadly
