October 18, 20223 yr Against Villa he seemingly did well on an individual basis but he was also part of a midfield two that was uncharacteristically porous and we couldn't break Villas press so not sure what to make of that performance as a whole.

Well our central midfield two were certainly porous tonight as well. I have not been his biggest fan in the past, but I feel he has been playing very well in central midfield. Physically strong, which God knows we need, and runs well with the ball. Very skillful touch but yes, he needs to have a bit more composure in the final third. But I think with his ball control and size he scares opponents. Felt sorry for him tonight TBH. He isn't a wing back but he had to fill in there because of our injury circumstances.
October 22, 20223 yr He’s had a very decent amount of minutes this season, a regular pretty much and he’s still not offering much. It’s so frustrating, he has everything physically to be a top player. He just doesn’t have the creativity or intelligence. He should be sold next summer. A decent squad player but we can do a lot better.
October 22, 20223 yr He is a nothing player. He's not defensive. He's not attacking. He's not a great passer. He's not a box-to-box player. Literally all he ever does it the occasional burst through the middle, then passes it sideways or backwards to slow it down. That's it.
October 22, 20223 yr While I agree with what people have mentioned about RLC, I felt that he was the better midfielder of the two we started with today. The other one was a liability.

But he is good at penalties and that seems to be enough.

I’m not looking at him favourably, if anything, I’ve said now for a while that the midfield is the line that worried me most. And RLC is not the answer. But today, he wasn’t the worst midfielder.
October 22, 20223 yr This is where we are now as a club a player that was never a regular under any previous manager who was loaned out most seasons who was benched by Fulham is now starting or coming on pretty much every game. Just one of many players we should have got rid off a long time ago we just stack these type of players up

Our recruitment is a huge part of why we draw at home to sides like United and Spurs, and away we lose to Leeds and Saints, when the likes of City and now Arsenal breeze past them.

October 23, 20223 yr We are want one of our own to be successful, but some players have already running out of chances, and unfortunately RLC is one of them. Let's hope we cut him loose in the next window, and get a better player in, or at worst give others at the club a game.

The fact that we were not quite as sh*t in the second half as we were in the first cannot surely equate to being excellent

He won eight of his 11 duels and made five tackles. He scored with his only shot on target, a penalty in the dying embers. He was also booked for a foul.

When Potter adapted tactically, Jorginho got better and was far better than RLC.
October 23, 20223 yr RLC seemingly has all the tools to be a top quality player, but somehow he isn't and clearly is never going to be one. I don't know if it's low footballing IQ or his meek personality but when you look up "flatters to deceive' in a dictionary it should have his picture there.
October 23, 20223 yr I’ve always liked RLC but he is a squad player at best. To me he just doesn’t have the desire to regularly take the game by the scruff of the neck. He seems happy to have a good game every now and then, he doesn’t even have the drive to break into the England World Cup squad. We definitely need an upgrade on RLC if we want to ever get back to challenging for titles, or even beating teams like Man Utd.
October 23, 20223 yr The Guardian's view of RLC https://www.theguardian.com/football/2022/oct/23/ruben-loftus-cheek-chelsea-manchester-united-england-gareth-southgate
October 23, 20223 yr "Amid the hubbub, Loftus-Cheek had the highest pass accuracy of any Chelsea midfielder on Saturday. No Chelsea player had more shots or made more interceptions than him and nobody on the pitch was fouled more than him".

He actually didn't though, 22 passes out of 28 makes makes his passing accuracy 78% which is lower than Jorginho that had 41 passes made with 80%. 2 shots ( same as Chalobah ). 3 interceptions is 1 more than Jorginho. 3 times fould is 1 more than Jorginho. https://fbref.com/en/matches/7ad85c8a/Chelsea-Manchester-United-October-22-2022-Premier-League Edited October 23, 20223 yr by Gol15

October 23, 20223 yr Just now, just said: Just quoting the article Gol. RLC > J5 RLC had 2 terrible matches, both as a wing back and in the pivot. Nowhere near better than Jorginho regardless of where you put him.

I am not disputing your point at all Gol, mine is that it was hardly a high bar. I am not sniping at Jorginho and in fact I am not picking on Potter either. My point is how can we possibly envisage challenging for honours and the amount we pay when the quality of performance by all players is so disjointed and poor

Different stats on whoscored.com Gol. Jorginho 55 passes 78.2% success rate. RLC 27 passes 81.5% success. Off course RLC played 17 minutes less than Jorginho. Very interesting to compare the match stats of United's DM Casemiro to our own recycling midfielder. Casemiro 56 passes 82.1% success rate. You can also see a difference in their respective offensive passing inputs during the game. Jorginho long balls 1 Casemiro long balls 6 And to illustrate that Casemiro is yet another EPL DM that is not purely defensive, in their last 4 matches: Jorginho - Long balls 4, Through balls 0, Crosses 0, Key passes 1, Assists 0. Casemiro - Long balls 14, Through balls 1, Crosses 1, Key passes 5, Assists 1. Which adds yet more evidence to my view that we don't need a recycling midfielder.
