Are our rivals about to catch or overtake us?

Featured Replies

nice result the gooners helping us out. I guess Jose will play the city game cautiously, knowing a draw would suffice but being prepared to go after it if city take the lead. My guess is a draw.

I'd be fine with a draw tbh

Blimey how poor were city today and with all the big players back except toure, arse out ran em and dealt with the power with some deft passing and movement

Aguero not yet on it, and the two ferns in midfield look like twin statues, soo al a bit laboured and the pressure told

Jose, brailliant yesterday to put down that big marker

City chasing but off the pace

SB on 31st will be epic and chance to kill em off

That's what everyone expected last year at the Etihad though, and instead we came out and just dominated them.

Gonna be just that little bit peeved if the same thing that happened at the Etihad this season happens at the Bridge. 5 points is a decent gap but it's not as good as 8.

How quickly things could change, we could be back to the 8 points lead next weekend. I think we should go for the win next weekend.

We won't get any points beating Bradford I'm afraid ;-)

While it would be great to beat City and extend the lead to 8 points every Chelsea fan with half a brain knows that a draw is an acceptable and tolerable result. I would like the team set up so that we first and foremost do not lose the match.

Perfect weekend but let's not get ahead of ourselves. City are not out of the race even if we beat them. Just need the team to stay focussed and realise there are still 45 points to pick up.

How long will they be missing Toure at the ACON? Arsenal, yes, Arsenal pretty much out paced and in some parts, out muscled the City middle.

The final is on the 8th of Febuary... hears hoping Yaya and co go all the way to the final...

2 games ago we were under immense pressure, city had clawed back an 8 point gap, they were level on GD and we were wobbling..
Now, they come to the Bridge having lost and drawn the last 2 matches and the GD is 11 !!
THEY are under pressure now, no one likes coming to us, it is the one genuine fortress left in the PL at the moment, and whoever you are you don't come to us confident of taking away all the points.
City will be chuffed with a point, and it's that reticence that i believe will net us all 3.

Good post, we shouldn't be happy if City are, that's why I wont be happy if we come out of that game with anything other than a point.

GD is +9, but still, being zero 2 games ago, it's still hard to believe.

I actually think John Terry's goal at Tottenham had a psychological effect. Because of that, we still remained top, albeit on alphabetical order.

How are Ivory Coast doing at the ACON so far?

They play their first group stage match (vs Guinea) tomorrow... they also play on the 24th (vs Mali) and the 28th (vs Cameroon).

I think we should be looking to win the game, we should have done them at the ethiad and would have if it wasnt for lamps, and I think taking a point would be a missed opportunity. Solid win at home will give us a confidence boost to ride on for the remainder of the season, and do the opposite for city. It's a shame that we squandered the 9 point lead we did have, i think we have been unlucky in the fact that we could have been 12+ points ahead quite easily if it wasnt for a few freak games, the late equaliser at old trafford was a killer too! But the sheer fact we have had a 9 point lead, and the possiblity of another 8 point lead only highlights how good we have been this season. I dont want to get too ahead of myself because I know city are strong, but the game on the 31st in my opinion is the biggest of them all.

Yaya Toure and Wilfried Bony are being lined up to boost Manchester City's faltering title challenge against Chelsea on Saturday if the Ivory Coast crash out of the Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday.

City manager Manuel Pellegrini had been resigned to being without Toure and £28m January signing Bony until mid-February due to the pair's involvement at the Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.

But despite currently sitting on top of Group D, the Ivory Coast will be eliminated if they lose to Cameroon on Wednesday, opening up the prospect of Toure and Bony being flown back to Manchester at the first opportunity ahead of Saturday's crucial clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Yesterday's results make this game even bigger for me.

We need to win and go 8 points clear of them. That, coupled with possible wins for Southampton and United, could leave City looking over their shoulder rather than solely focused on catching us.

With the way Barcelona are playing and City are defending, really can't see City going through in the Champions League, so we have a good chance to leave their season looking bleak.

The important thing in these matches is to just not lose them. We have the advantage at the moment and whilst it would be nice to win it, the onus will be on City to attack us.

Something to keep an eye on. You can bet that City will have a private jet on standby.
