Juan Cuadrado to Chelsea .... Done!

If we want to be aiming to be as good as the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern, we need to be signing the calibre of players they do. I can't see any of them being even remotely interested in this guy. I can see him being another frustrating signing who doesn't live up to the price tag if he comes here.

I dont remember Matic, Costa, Oscar, Dave, etc being linked with these teams and theyve turned out alright. We have to trust the opinions of the people who are payed to make these decisions. Being realistic, are we going to compete with RM, Barcelona, Bayern when it comes to signing players? No we're not

Can't ever see the day Chelsea pay £86m for a player. I would rather we buy players that suit or team and playing style then signing a big name every summer a la Real Madrid

Bayern and barca have brought some of their best players through the youth system. Us, as well as any team in England (including man utd), will never be as enticing as real madrid. However, I think we could easily do what bayern and barca have done, with bringing top players through the youth system. We are now a very well established club, so we could realistically sign young players and put a bit more reliance on our youth system instead. We won't be able to spend all these millions on players for much longer, so the attention needs to be on the youth system if possible.

Exactly, this is why Reus is a no go. Its not fifa or football manager where you just buy the best players. The best players are those that fit your system the best. Mourinho has made allowances for Hazard being in his team, he cant fit another one in, it'd drive him mad. Fair play to Hazard though, he's ticked more boxes since working with Jose

It's a lot easier to do when the league is extremely uncompetitive

Maybe with bayern, but the spanish league is competitive, possibly on par with EPL. Apart from a few big signings, barca have always relied on youth. Pique, puyol, iniesta, xavi, fabregas, messi, valdes, pedro, busquets have all been a huge part of barca's successful periods.

I see real Madrid signed that boy wonder from Norway, odegaard. What chance he'll have to get into the real first team is unknown, but real aren't a club who focus on youth system much at all. If we focused more on bringing youth through, we wouldn't be overlooked by young, potentially world class players.

Barca have the advantage of having a B team that consistently plays extremely competitive matches.

We're currently reliant on the loan system and hoping that our youngsters get the game time, with Josh, Chalobah and the like it hasn't always happened.

If we were in the future to have a B team in the Championship our youth development would improve drastically.

I'd be very happy if we bought this guy

Sure, it's not a stellar signing, and there are better players out there, but the bottom line is we have a good chance of making this a memorable season, but we have a weakness on the right, and this guy strengthens that position within the squad.

He is a realistic target and some of you guys need to get realistic, take a leaf out of Jose's book.

We lose Salah and/or Schurrle and we need to replace them, first of all, and somebody desperately needs to provide Willian with a bit of direct competition.

Jose doesn't fancy Schurrle or Salah, that is clear. They weren't even his signings, really. Neither was Willian by the way. I presume this guy is.

He's a good player, his signing would address an issue within the squad, and our chances of success this season would be enhanced.

I'm all for it.

Only if you don't understand what "context" means

Fully understand what "context" means, pal.

Bizarre that this is becoming an argument, however when reading cold, the original comment cannot reasonably be expected to correlate with the poster's clarification:

"£23m for Cuadrado, Salah will be going away on loan to Roma before a permanent deal of £11m or more is made."

There was nothing to provide said context to which you refer, ergo, it read such that the poster indicated that a £23m bid was received for salah.

I hope that clears up where i was coming from, do feel free to drop me a PM to discuss further so we dont have to pollute the forums with inane sh*te and pointless argument any longer; in that medium I will be happy to provide any further "context" as you require from me in order for you to understand where my point originated from.

LoL you really didnt understand he was talking about Cuadrado in the Cudrado thread?

Fully understood he was talking about Cuadrado in the Cuadrado thread. The post made reference to a £23m bid being accepted, followed by "bye salah".

Is this really a discussion we are having? I swear to god I've never come across a group of people who take such pleasure in bickering about the most pointless of things. My above post which you quote was only serving to highlight the lunacy of this discussion, yet it drags on?

This forum, and this forum only, is like this. It's bananas.

Jesus christ.

I'd rather we fixed the problems we have in the middle of the park when Fabregas moves into the hole than sign Cuadrado. Personally I don't rate and I just don't think he is an upgrade on Willian. Makes more sense to try and buy either Illaramendi (Madrid will sell him at a knockdown price once they buy Lucas Silva) or better still Schnederlin from Southampton whom I reckon qualifies as homegrown, and try and shift out Salah and Mikel. Ramires/Oscar can then compete for a role on the right when Fabregas moves up to 10 and/or Willian needs replacing.

Haha but you were the one that started the bickering. Relax mate its Friday, go have a pint

What? I've already had two pints in my lunch break pal, I've already forgotten what this pithy thing was about.

Cuadrado... a good player eh?

I think Andre was Jose's signing for sure, I belive he probably gave the green light for Willian and salah as well. It's to convenient to say that something is not Jose's signing when it doesn't work out. Andre I know for sure Jose took the time to go see him

We were in for these guys long before Jose's arrival, and a lot of work was probably in progress.

Yes, Jose would have sanctioned the signings, but I doubt they were his targets.

Fabregas, Costa, Matic, Luis. Those were his targets, in my opinion, and Varane too I suspect.

I have felt for a long time he would target somebody on the right flank and a centre-back.

Regarding Cuadrado, those of you saying he's unpredictable, for my money that's what we're missing on the right flank, a bit of unpredictability.

I assumed you were all waiting with bated breath for my opinion.

I was. And as usual it's wrong!

Not sure about the "understanding" What  his post actually said was

We've had the £23m bid accepted apparently, so he looks to be on his way. Bye Salah!

How does "We've had the £23m bid accepted" translate in your mind to a bid being made of that amount for Salah?  You really are an argumentative tosser, aren't you?

Regarding Cuadrado, those of you saying he's unpredictable, for my money that's what we're missing on the right flank, a bit of unpredictability.

Hmmm. SWP could be unpredictable, so much so that even he didn't know what he was trying to do most of the time.

Maybe we wanted to give Willian and Schurrle a fair shot? I really thought both of them would push on a bit better from last season, but its been Oscar thats really done that.

That is probably true, but anyone watching Willian last season would know he was never going to become anything special.
