Juan Cuadrado to Chelsea .... Done!

Featured Replies

I can't really say cuadrado is better than schurrle from the snippets (and one game last night vs roma) that i've seen, but he looks the real deal and he seems to have more in his arsenal than schurrle does. i wouldn't like to see schurrle go, but if we manage to get a good price for him and make a decent profit, it has to be done.

Can't compare him to Salah, different class of player, I think he'd provide much more of an offensive threat on the right than Willian.

Fox Soccer reports he 'wants' the deal to be done. Let's hope this is true and come February 1st he is a blue, one of my top wishes in the transfer market right now.

No chance we lose 2 and only sign 1 Rick. Ive got a feeling Schurrle out, Cuadrado In, Salah stays

Salah has played 107 minutes this season (not including the league cup and fa cup matches). With Ramires back I don't think Salah needs replacing.

Watched the game last night. That's the first 90 minutes I've seen of Cuadrado. He's clearly got talent and has all kinds of tricks up his sleeve, I can see him being a threat off the bench. Pace to burn too. I just don't think he's a JM type player, can't see him working very hard off the ball.

Cuadrado to me seems like the kind of player that could provide moments of magic amid lots of inconsistency, or I could see him flopping spectacularly. Seems like a really risky signing to me.

That said, we are getting zero from Schurrle and Salah at the moment and I think we need to bring someone in badly. I also think we need a CB too but that's for another discussion entirely.

That's one hell of a conclusion after 90 mins.

Anyway,

Cuadrado's passing accuracy last night: 96.2% (Although none of the attacking band had a great amount of touches) and he was fouled 9 times. My honest opinion is that he will in the very least challenge the likes of Oscar or Willian, but I've only seen him on 3/4 occasions.

Here's a comparison between Cuadrado and some other players for this season:

From what I could see he offered a lot of support pressing wise and he is known to have a high work rate amongst most wingers, since he played as a wingback when Fiorentina play a 3 in the back. Vs Roma he was played as a SS and played behind the striker but when played on the wings he offers a lot more defensive support.

The only relevent comparison there is Willian. Valencia is a striker, Mata is a number 10, Bale plays in a league completely different to ours. I'd like to see it with Sanchez, Hazard instead

Sanchez is having his best ever season so would bias the comparison. Hazard is the best AM in the league so again that would be an unfair comparison. And Cuadrado has played many games this season as a 10, hence the Mata inclusion.

Makes no sense. You've eliminated the elite competition to make his performance seem more favorable. We want to see how he compares to the best players in the league. I dont expect him to have as good stats as them but Im more interested in how close is to them.

You want to compare a player most likely being brought in for rotation to the elite? Does that make sense to you? You can do all the nonsensical comparisons you want on the Squawka website.

I think it's valid because the price is comparable

I think it's valid because the price is comparable

Then we should never have compared Torres to Aguero because he cost 18m more. The quality of the player/expected role is far more important to consider.

Yes because I want our squad players to be able to produce performances as close to the elite players as possible. Not saying they will match them. Hypothetical, if you had two players to choose from, one who you know can achieve 90% of Hazards performance and one who you know is better than Salah, who would you sign?

I understand your point but when showing comparisons I don't think you can gain much from seeing a Toyota vs Ferrari, irrespective of how much you want the Toyota to perform, or how much you paid for it.

I wouldn't choose any of those options. I'd go for hidden option C, the guy I believe can possibly outperform his true competition (Willian and Schurrle)  .

Did another comparison just for you then, although still kept Willian and added Navas:

Hazard too good.

If you put cuadrado in a team like ours that dominates possession, you would expect him to see more of the ball and improve on his stats.

He's also played as a second striker a lot this season so it's hard to compare really.

I'd definitely be excited by this signing, I think having fresh blood will keep the rest of the squad on their toes. Would prefer if he came in to replace salah, but judging by reports today, it seems schurrle will be the one leaving.

I'm of the same opinion. Obviously the club scouts have been watching him for a while and they must believe he fits into the team style. From the games I've seen he looks like the player many hoped Schurrle would become but he's a lot sharper and more tactically flexible than Schurrle.

That's a surprise, he's not as good as hazard or Sanchez. Haha. But his stats still look good considering he hasn't played as many minutes. Better than Willian, about the same as navas and a clear best over the previous comparison. I rate this guy, not expecting him to be our star player but, but he will be an improvement and possibly on a similar level to oscar.

I just can't seem to get excited about this guy. I guess what worries me is that no one else seems to be after him.

If barca didn't have a ban, they would be going for him too, they were pretty keen in the summer.

this will be a decent coup for us.

Just seen the odds have been slashed for him to join us, as well as Schurrle joining Wolfsburg. Looks like it's happening.

Can't say I'm pleased.
