Juan Cuadrado to Chelsea .... Done!

Featured Replies

Good signing. Him and Willian fighting for the spot should be healthy. We uave creativity and goal threats on the right now finally.

Willian is a Central Attacking mid so him on the right isnt going to offer you the same threats as Cuadrado who thrives on taking the fullback on and crossing or dribbling in the box to score.

Gives us a bit of width and versality we have been crying out for, Willian can also move into the no10 at times with Oscar maybe playing in the deeper role. Food for thought, welcome JuanCua! UTC.

Maybe this signing will turn Ivan back into a top class defensive RB? his marauding up and down the pitch is great but there are times against certain opposition where it leaves us too open, these might be ideal games for the new boy.

Anyway I don't know much about you Juan but in the unlikely event you read the forum, welcome  .

South American football expert Tim Vickery<br />

"James Rodriguez was Colombia's undoubted World Cup star - but Juan Guillermo Cuadrado was not far behind.<br />

"Chelsea's new acquisition solved Colombia's tactical problem. The defensive line had to sit deep to protect veteran centre back Mario Yepes. It was Cuadrado who kept dragging the team forward and opening up the pitch with his sustained pace and effervescent dribbling down the right flank.<br />

"He is at his best as a wide right-midfielder - especially as over the last couple of seasons he has started scoring more goals. But he can also feature as an attacking right-back, or cut in from the other flank.<br />

"Some three years ago a Premier League giant had a look at Cuadrado but concluded that he was too old - a strange decision given that he is still only 26, and should be looking forward to playing his prime years under Jose Mourinho, who will certainly enjoy the pace on the transitions that his new Colombian acquisition will bring to the side."<br />

Well I'm excited to see what he can do! Width! :D

Schürrle is good enough to get starts for us.. the fact he doesn't just blows my mind and doubtedly has as much to do with his performances than the business side of the game, maybe Jose just doesn't like him, which doesn't make sense since he played regularly last season.

But, Cuadrado is in my opinion a player with a higher ceiling than Schürrle, meanwhile Schürrle is an excellent player to bring off the bench I'm not sure if he was ever going to be our go-to starter, aswhile given the right circumstances I believe Cuadrado can become.

I'm not really sure what you're trying to say here. But Schurrle is not a starter because he isn't good enough to be one, simple as that. He could be a very good second striker in a counter attacking team, but he was never ever going to be a starter here.

I hope that's the end of it personally.I don't like seeing ivanovic bombing up the wing and very occasionally putting in poor crosses.he's not a winger and that manifests itself when he's up against a decent left back.

I love seeing Ivanovic bombing up the wing. I don't like it when the full back doesn't provide an overlapping option. Though I liked the conservative and defensive Ivanovic too, I've loved the gradual transformation to Ivanovinho, the wingback. Sadly, I think his age is starting to catch up to him slowly, and I can't see him in this role for more than another season or two.

Disagree. With a run of games under his belt and the match time to find some form I think he could have started in place of Willian/Oscar. When you consider he's only 24, was probably the most accomplished goalscorer (which is arguably the most important thing you'd want from that position anyway) out of the 4/5 that play behind the striker, made very intelligent runs (again, the best of that 4/5) and had real potential to improve here, I'm sorry to see him go.

Just because he doesn't get regular minutes isn't to say he's not Chelsea calibre, only that he doesn't achieve what the manager wants for the team - e.g. Mata.

I think everyone wanted Andre to succeed at Chelsea, unfortunately he didnt.Salah is yet to have produced performances like he did for Basle so i would imagine he will be off also.Welcome Juan, more pace in the side is most welcome. The squad is close to completion and Jose will finish it off in the summer.....ONWARDS AND UPWARDS!

Thoughts on playing a 3-4-3 to accomodate Juan?

Courtois - GK

Ivanovic - CB

Terry - CB

Cahill - CB

Cuadrado - RM

Matic - CM

Fabregas - CM

Ramires - LM

Willian - RW

Costa - ST

Hazard - LW

Rambo & Juan can run forward on the counter all day and track back like true wing backs, and have the pace to push us up the pitch when we are on the backfoot.

Was impressed with the Scum's sytem and how they seemed to overwhelm the Chelsea players in the first leg. If JM could use something similar, like you suggest, it could be very interesting.

Same lineup as yours but Filipe Luis in place of Rambo to give that balance. natural left sided, defensive balance.

Possibly Cuadrado higher up and Willian behind?

Courtois

------------

Cahill/Zouma/Azpi

Terry

Iva

-------------

Filipe Luis

Matic

Fabregas

Willian/Ramires

-----------

Hazard

Costa

Cuadrado

(btw, mt first comment, although I used to post here before. Been watching the forum for some time without commenting... until now)

Your suggesting we're buying this guy to drop oscar. Utter madness. We'll have the same formation but he will rotate with Willian.

No way we will change the tactic and replace Oscar. Oscar-Fabregas-Matic, this trio will play the passing game and get the ball to Hazard or Willian/Cuadrado and then finish by Costa. I also can't see Jose playing 3 defenders.

hehe, calm down fellas, I wasn't suggesting we 'will' change anything. Only responding to the suggestion of using a 3-4-3.

Also, jb, A Hazard, Costa, Oscar trio might yeild more goals, with Cuadrado ar right wing/back instead of Willian.

Might mean Oscar can stay forward a little more and offer a serious goal threat like he should.
