Who should replace Didier?

Featured Replies

With Didier probably retiring this season we're going to have to bring another striker in. The obvious in house choice is to put Bamford at 3 and push Remy up to 2 in the pecking order. However, the way we play and our formation, Jose clearly doesn't fancy Remy as a lone striker, which is why I think he's played a bit part this season despite being prolific when he does play. His physicality doesn't suit close games. You only need to look at the City game earlier this season to see what a battle Costa was in up top on his own, Remy wouldnt have been able to handle that. I can't see Jose wanting to bring in another slight forward whose game isn't about physicality in Bamford. I think he loves the way Costa battles and keeps possession up top.

So my question is if we dont go Costa-Remy-Bamford, which I don't think we will, who do we bring in for that number 2 slot in the pecking order. Personally, I think Bony wouldve been perfect. Proven goalscorer in the prem and physical to to boot, too late now though.

So who would you have to fill Didier's gigantic boots?

Maybe Hulk, but it might be too late to bring him in, other players that spring to mind are Carlos Bacca, who has had a good season, Lacazette has been doing very well in Ligue 1 and he's only 23, he's not the tallest player though.

HULK?!? I'd rather we signed Zola (either of them). For want of a better word, Hulk is gash.

Lacazette sounds promising but making him 3rd choice here would kill his development.

There doesn't seem to be a perfect fit for our backup's backup.

I've seen little of Hulk, I just know that we were linked with him a couple of years ago, if he's rubbish then forget that.

Remy is good enough to be the 2nd striker, If we started him in games more than we have it would show that he is. Also starting him as a right winger is pointless.

Bamford would be my vote, he's shown enough in my opinion to warrant a chance to prove himself at Chelsea.

I agree but I dont think Jose will start next season with Bamford and Remy, neither of them offer the physicality Jose wants in a striker

He's had Kezman, Kalou, Gudjohnsen as his back ups before and none of those are noted for their physical attributes.

Bamford was close to being involved this season before Drogba came back, with another successful loan under his belt I don't see why he can't be under consideration.

Buy back Lukaku? I know it's highly unlikely, but considering Everton won't be going places this season, he may get tired being the big fish in a very small pod.

I would be very very angry if we did that. The guy refused to try to be part of our team, we had friggin Samuel Eto'o, Torres and Ba and he still was not up for the task of having to work a little bit. He teased us and flattered to deceive for two years and now look at him, I dislike the guy and don't ever want to see him back with us.

And he sucks anyway, might as well get ourselves a decent replacement.

Said it ages ago, but keep Remy and promote Bamford.  Then I'd add that we loan out Tammy Abraham, who is scoring for fun in the U21, with an eye on promoting him in the future.

Promote from within I think or maybe sign a young advanced midfielder/forward like Oliver Torres or Paco Alcacer, although each of these players would probably cost us 20mil+.

Never heard of of Abraham, how good is he?
