Chelsea vs PSG (Champions League Second Leg) 11/03/2015

Cahill was fantastic against West Ham, besides his poor distribution in the first half his solid defending is just what I want to see, that was a Gary Cahill from last season. A Gary Cahill who doesn't switch off, that's when he is at his best.

Same back 4 against PSG for me, I hope we don't make any chances there.

I'll be surprised if he's picked ahead of a fully fit Cahill, we need our best team for this game and Cahill is part of that.

Says the bloke with a Madrid player as his avatar.

I've had his picture as my avatar long before he joined Madrid. He's my favorite player, nothing more.

I just hope we dont get a referee that allows everything and don't hand out cards until the end of the match. I felt PSG had an advantage with the bar set so high in the first match. Veratti and Luiz were allowed to be far more aggresive then what they would have been with a deserved early yellow card.

I loved this kind of matches. For example look at the other matches. What a boredom... without fire, emotion and ferocity..

Watching first leg, I realised that PSG outplayed us in our game - physical game. I was really surprised. And this 18th. century style with Ibra and Kavani surprised us too.  Hope we're going to smash them now. Only one team can outplay us at the Bridge with our style - last year's finalist. So - I'm very confident about this one.

I'd be very surprised barring injuries if this isn't the side Jose selects.

Personally I'd go for

TiVo

Ivan zouma JT luis

Matic Fabregas

Willian Oscar hazard

Costa

Cahill was part of the England squad that got hit for 4 by Zlatan, and in Paris Zlatan looked very comfortable against Cahill. I'm just sayin.

Personally I would set up the same as we did against West Ham, except with Matic coming as the DM in place of Zouma. PSG will come at us, they have to. So I would set up 4-3-3, with a tactical, defensive mindset and a focus on the counter-attack.

I would also go with Cahill over Zouma in this, he's been excellent in the last two games in which we played in a similar way to which I expect to see us on Wednesday. Also Ramires has been looking good of late whilst Oscar has been poor, so more reason to play 4-3-3 rather than 4-2-3-1.

There's no debate at all IMO so Courtois to start, especially given how brilliant he was against West Ham. And how some are suggesting that Cuadrado should start is completely beyond me. It is exactly this type of game which demands Willian's best qualities - workrate, tactical awareness, quick link-up play.

---------------Courtois---------------

---Iva----Cahill-----Terry---Azpi---

-----------------Matic-----------------

------Ramires---------Fabregas-----

---Willian-----------------Hazard----

-----------------Costa-----------------

There is absolutely 0 doubt in my mind that Ramires will start this game.

I'd be surprised if he didn't start,

I'm sure him and Veratti will be kicking lumps out of each other.

Love European nights at the bridge. Very little better than this and more excited for this than I was for the league cup final. Just the atmosphere, the music, the best ground in the world filled with the best fans.... Not sure what the team will be but I trust Jose.

Biggest game of the season so far, can't wait.

The boss rarely gets the big games wrong tactically, I think we're superior to this team in many ways and in my opinion they're in for a hard night. Hopefully Hazard draws the same amount of fouls as he did in Paris, then we can flood the box with set pieces and cause real problems

I'd personally go with

Costa

Hazard - Oscar - Willian

Matic - Ramires

Azpilicueta - Terry - Zouma - Ivanovic

Something about Zouma vs Ibra gives me confidence over Cahill, while Fabregas will not have the freedom to roam against PSG's midfield.

We are at the result critical stage of all competitions now, and particularly the CL.

Personally, it's a win (go through) at all costs scenario. Gonna love the game, be great to be there and all that.....but I don't really mind how we get the result, just get it.

Get as many PSG players booked as early as we can. Make the most of every foul, they fouled Hazard as soon as he got the ball in Paris and rotated the duty, thus restricting his time with the ball and his impact on the game. The players, the management and the crowd can play their part in this and get some pressure on the officials. In particular get Verratti in the ref's book early on, that's half his effectiveness removed.

Getting through is everything.

Aren't results always critical?

No, not always.

It's situation based, take as one example the CL group stage and we're 4 points clear with the last game of the group stage on a Weds night, with a PL game on Saturday lunchtime against your main title chasing rival. You'd possibly rest a few regulars and sacrifice the CL game for a fresher team on the Saturday?

Again and hypothetically, we're 9 points clear of the 2nd team in the PL (I wish) with two games to go with the 2nd leg of the CL semi-final to play and the overall result all to play for. Do you rest players for the CL semi, as the result in the league at this stage is not critical?

So no, not always. However given the stage of the CL & PL right now they are.
