August 8, 201510 yr If he's not good enough to break into a palace team over Conor Whickam then he's not ready. If the boy is good enough he will get game time. If not then there will be a perfectly good reason for it.
August 8, 201510 yr Wickham has to be one of the most overrated young players in England. He'll falter because he simply doesn't score enough goals. One thing about Bamford is he scores. He'll get his chance.

August 9, 201510 yr he think he can prove himself even if the odds are stacked against him, but the likelihood of him establishing himself on a regular basis are unlikely because of the players they have in a similar position.

If you change the 'they' to 'we' you could be describing next season. I really like Bamfordinho, but he needs to learn to fight for a starting spot. José comments about KDB should be ringing in his ears
August 9, 201510 yr I don't think anyone actually rates Wickham. You could be right. Although paying 7m for him says someone rates him a little.
August 15, 201510 yr http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/aug/15/patrick-bamford-crystal-palace-chelsea-premier-league Good read on Bamfordinho. Seems motivated to do two things, play for Chelsea and take Gary Lineker's job.
August 25, 201510 yr Going to Palace vs Shrewsbury today as the tickets were only £10, hopefully will get a good look at Bamford in action.

August 25, 201510 yr They'd rather developed the player they own rather than the one on loan? Exactly. We seem to have cocked up yet again when it comes to loaning out one of our promising youngsters. Surely when the club look to agree a loan they weigh up the chances of actual game-time? I know there can be no guarantees but there were better options and surely it's not too late to get him back and then send him to somewhere like Norwich or Watford - ANYWHERE where he might actually get a game. Problem with that is those two will likely be struggling with relegation. Are the managers gonna trust a 21 year old loanee to help dig them out? I think he'll be fine at Palace. Hes behind players with PL experience for now, but if he takes his chances surely they wont keep a better player off the field because of who owns his rights. He started the match today but no goal

Not really sure we should be looking at season long loans for players like Patrick, one till the new year is plenty long enough for us to evaluate his progress. If he's doing well and we can give him game time we would recall him or renegotiate till the end of the season, if its not going so well we place him somewhere else. As it is he's gone there for a season and we have no redress on his future for 12 mths.

I don't think shorter loans are the answer, if anything it would teams an even lower incentive to loan platers they will have to replace again out of the seasons budget. Maybe there could be a break clause inserted if the player doesn't play a certain percentage. I think it's well too early to say whether this loan is good or bad. Hopefully they manage to get rid of gayle, and bolasie leaves, so he has a little less competition. Wickham won't score enough goals to hold down a starting spot. So it depends whether patrick can push ahead of Murray. Needs to take his chances, and anything is possible.
August 26, 201510 yr Looking at how much Sanogo played last season, seems like they just need a big lump to play upfront.
August 26, 201510 yr Bamford isnt really a lone striker and they have better better options on the wings. It was always going to be an uphill battle for him and he is going to have to earn his playing time. Its too soon to judge whether he is up for it, but if hes good enough he will get his chances

To be fair, I don't actually think this one is our fault. They signed Wickham after they took Bamford on loan. Sadly though I think this is going to affect Bamford quite badly.
August 26, 201510 yr They'd rather developed the player they own rather than the one on loan? Sorry but I can't believe that Pardew would play an inferior player and jeopardize results just because one player is on loan and the other isn't. He clearly rates Wickham more.
August 26, 201510 yr Saw the Palace game yesterday, Bamford was very poor. Sat near the dugout, and it looked like Pardew was getting very frustrated with him. Won't be surprised if he doesn't get too much time at Palace.

Won't be surprised if he doesn't get too much time at Palace. Honestly, I find this to usually be the case with Bamford. If he doesnt score he is usually not contributing much. Hes a pure goalscorer that lack other attributes to make him a standout player

October 16, 201510 yr The Guardian reporting that we might recall him in January if he doesn't start getting some playing time. http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/oct/16/patrick-bamford-loan-crystal-palace-chelsea?CMP=share_btn_tw Were we to still to be struggling for goals in open play going into the New Year then I would say bring him back and put him in the squad. Falcao's only here for a year on loan and unless he goes on a decent scoring run I cannot see us taking up the option to buy him. So we'll be on the look out for new strikers anyway, so why not give the lad an audition.

There were quite a few of us on here who were saying he should have stayed and had his audition three months ago.
October 16, 201510 yr There were quite a few of us on here who were saying he should have stayed and had his audition three months ago. I could understand the argument for him not staying at Chelsea and in fairness the loan to Palace looked a great opportunity to get some Premier League minutes under his belt with maybe the view of him returning to us ready for next season. At the last minute Pardrew couldn't shift Gayle and now he's ahead of Bamford in the pecking order. It must be incredibly frustrating for him and Chelsea that he's currently wasting his time there coming off the back of a superb season.
