November 2, 201510 yr There was nothing in that incident. Absolutely nothing at all. Didnt stop MOTD dedicating as much time to it as they did to Lucas' 2nd yellow that wasnt given. If Costa gets banned for that it's a ridiculous witch-hunt i too think it doesn't deserve a ban. it was a little lash out, but nothing more malicious or career threatening. the problem is, football nowadays is becoming pussified and players/coaches can't show even the slightest aggression otherwise it's under the microscope. we may as well implement basketball rules to the game because it's heading that way. however, i do think costa is doing this too much knowing how he likely won't get away with it, and being chelsea our players' and coaches' actions are always amplified twice as much by the people at the top in this country.
November 2, 201510 yr i do, however, want to add that i think we need to find another striker. i would love to see traore up front, or even bring bamford back in jan, but how likely those options are i have no idea. costa has been disappointing this season and just looks terribly sloppy at times, and his ball control is poor for a top player.

He might escape the ban based on Skrtl being a man about the whole situation. He deserves to be banned for it. He needs to go. Like Suarez, there comes a time when a player has to go, he might not be biting or racially abusing people, but its just as bad in terms of bans he is accumulating.
November 2, 201510 yr He'll probably get away with it seeing as the ref dealt with the incident, although I'm not sure if the ref saw the kick or just saw the coming together afterwards.
November 2, 201510 yr He's just not the same player anymore. It's not a huge shock given he had 2 years of constant hamstring problems, it's bound to leave a lasting effect. He's not fast and because of that he struggles to go past a man, it's a shame as he was class for us.
November 2, 201510 yr He same player? He was never a fantastic striker in the first place. He is decent, but certainly not a real top striker.
November 2, 201510 yr He was one of the best forwards in Europe last season in the top leagues and the season before with Atletico too. He wasn't world class by any means but he was certainly a top striker
November 2, 201510 yr He has lost a lot of pace, he was never super, super speedy but early last season he would run away from defenders on a regular basis. And i would have described that Costa as quick, now he is slow and can't get past any defenders anymore. Very poor all season.
November 2, 201510 yr Not going to be charged according to the Telegraph. Thank god. Imagine the constant moaning from the Dippers to demand a punishment had they not won that game. Could have had a different outcome if that was so.

I respect your opinion but I cannot fathom how you think there's nothing in it. They were both lying on the ground and Costa blatantly kicked another professional, who was lying beside him in a vulnerable position, right in the chest. You mention not being able to show the slightest bit of aggression nowadays and I agree with you to a certain extent, but what he did on Saturday was malicious and really pathetic. If your son or daughter did that on a football pitch you'd be horrified
November 2, 201510 yr He same player? He was never a fantastic striker in the first place. He is decent, but certainly not a real top striker. Did you actually bother to watch him for Ateltico and for us last season?
November 2, 201510 yr I'd agree he's not world class, he's the type of player who will play very well when the rest of the team is playing well and relies on decent service. I do think we need another striker of his calibre who has a different style of play to Costa.
November 2, 201510 yr He same player? He was never a fantastic striker in the first place. He is decent, but certainly not a real top striker. How can he not be a top striker if he once was the top scorer of La Liga?
November 2, 201510 yr How can he not be a top striker if he once was the top scorer of La Liga? I think their points are that, perhaps he isn't a top top striker if he can only score when the whole teams playing well and serving them on a plate? i don't agree with that though, some strikers can't even put them in from dead in front... Costa is often clinical if he can get the shot away.
November 2, 201510 yr Many of Diegos goals for Atletico were because he made the chances himself. I'd have to watch them all again but my vague memory was that he did get served a lot of them up. But again, you still have to put them in which too many strikers fail to do.
November 2, 201510 yr That's a disservice to say that, was he not making the right runs to get on the end of those chances?
November 2, 201510 yr With Diego Costa, it is all about his movement, positioning and finishing, this is his game. The problem is we are not playing the right tactics to get the best out of him. I'm not seeing any passes threaded into him in the area, no crosses he can run on to, nothing. We just keep hitting long passes towards him or we play the ball to him outside the area and expect him to take on 2 or 3 defenders, this isn't his game at all. Everything Diego Costa is doing is outside the box, infront of the opposition's defense, he isn't that type of striker. To get the best out of him you need people who can pass the ball well, and with Fabregas completely off form we just don't have anyone else who can do it. Diego Costa is not Drogba, Messi or Aguero, he isn't going to score wonder goals. Edited November 2, 201510 yr by Scott Harris
November 2, 201510 yr With that in mind, should we entertain the idea of finding a striker who can stand on his own? With costa, I fear he could get a red card whenever he's frustrated and for his game to be heavily depending on services, he's going to be easily frustrated.. timebomb, just I though we have moved on from luiz..

Who is there though? There's a serious lack of great players out there especially strikers.

There isn't a lot of great forwards available in the market these days. Even if we do get one, we still must have the right players to play behind him.

Diego Costa is not Drogba, Messi or Aguero, he isn't going to score wonder goals. This 100% We should have signed benteke or someone similar so we could change it up a bit. Costa, falcao, and remy aren't great target men. So when we are struggling to pass through teams, we go long and it invariably ends up coming straight back. Ramires's goal the other day came from a cross and a midfield runner, which we haven't had enough of recently. Costa is the best in the air, but if we get numbers in the box, and put a quality delivery in, he will get chances.
November 4, 201510 yr Good win tonight but the form of Diego is really concerning me. We only play one up top and he looks like he's just going through the motions. He's slow, isn't making good runs while looks to have lost his goal touch. Is it confidence? I mean that shouldn't effect his speed and movement surely, it would be different if he was missing guilt edge chances but he's not even getting on the end of anything. The one time he was in on goal tonight he fell over from a nothing challenge and made a meal of it trying to get a pen. I don't think Remy is the answer either as he too likes to drift and isn't a typical poacher type so I'd imagine he'd score more but no doubt the same frustrations would arise. We need to look at this in January because Falcao is mince, Remy doesn't tend to get the chance and Costa looks to be Torres in disguise. Thank god Willian has stepped up this season, we'd be in a far worse situation if not for that man. Edited November 4, 201510 yr by Chelsbear
