Corners

Featured Replies

Let's talk about it folks.

It's been a bugbear all season.

It's the worst I've ever known.

We have nobody who can take a good set-piece, apart from on isolated occasions.

Fabregas is the best of a really bad bunch, but he's far from good, often hitting the first defender, or, in an attempt to compensate, lofting them too high up in the air, which is easy to defend against.

There's no whip or pace with him.

As for Oscar and Willian, atrocious, embarrassing.

The little we've seen of Cuadrado is even worse.

These are expensive, highly-paid professionals, with big reputations.

I'd give Hazard a go.

He can't be any worse.

With the likes of Costa, Drogba, Cahill, Terry, Zouma, Matic and Ivan in the box, it's a criminal waste of opportunities, and it's gone on too long.

Change something Jose ..

Please.

In-swinging are fine.

Outswinging are sunday league.

Get a left footer to take the ones on the right.

Start of the season Fabregas was the taker, if he was on the pitch he took the set pieces.

Around Christmas or the new year other players have been taking them, Willian mostly.

No idea why this changed, Fabregas' delivery is comfortably the best so we should just have him taking everything.

It worked well at the beginning of the season, so let's finish the season in the same way.

It's a serious concern that very expensive players cannot take decent corners. Surely they should train some of the players to take corners in training? We have so many tall players who can get on the end of good deliveries, but the corners are always sh*t.

Are we actually that much worse than anyone else in the league? Thought we'd got a few from corners.

I don't think the stat took into account the amount of corners taken and it didn't differentiate between the goals as a direct result of the corner or goals that came about from poor clearances/deflections.

I could be wrong though, didn't pay all that much attention to it when it was posted on here.

Let Luis take some. He's got a great cross on him, but he's simply not been picked enough to make that a viable option.

I was surprised he did not take any today. We seem to always hit the first man.

Gianfranco Zola...that is all.

Though I did like JFH's corners too. I remeber one game at United where they asked why let your best finisher take corners, and Jimmy whipped one in and we scored. "That is why" lol.

It's the ones that hit the first man that really bug me. Surely it can't be that hard to get it past the first man.

Apparently it is. I suppose they're looking for that near post knock-on but it just looks amateurish when it dips to that first defender every time.

I hate the corners we take, the aim is to whip it in flat with pace, just clearing the first man but we rarely get it right

It's not just us, it seems every team has really gone downhill in terms of set pieces, despite how absolutely dreadful we are at corners we're actually one of the better teams which is laughable

I was actually thinking this game how we used to score from corners......

I'm sure I saw something that had us as scoring the most goals from set pieces thus season, which I was shocked at. Can't find it now though so I might have just dreamt it

Corners are a bit of a strange one.

We're absolutely woeful at them. Very rarely do we beat the first man.

What makes up for it (or what makes it incredibly frustrating, depending on your point of view) is that we usually create a chance when we do get that rare bit of height on them.

We've (apparently) scored 8 goals from corners in the league. Only West Brom have scored more (9).

In the Champions League we've scored 4. Only Real Madrid have scored more (5).

In the top 5 European leagues, only 5 teams have scored more (Atletico have 13, 4 more than anyone else).

Last season we scored 8 (Liverpool and City have 12 each)

Two seasons ago we had 11 (United had 15)

I think that's a bit rose tinted glasses mate, I can remember being frustrated by mata's corners pretty often too.

We have brilliant headers of a ball, who are great at attacking set-pieces.

Imagine how many they would score, if we only got the ball into the danger zone more often.

I think Mata's the best we've had since Zola, in terms of set-pieces.

Way ahead of Fabregas for me.
