Radamel "the project" Falcao

Featured Replies

Correct in thinking that if Colombia lose, theyre out tonight?

Problem is Falcao cannot win. Anything he does remotely wrong will be magnified because of his Utd spell.  He could score a hat trick tonight of wonder goals, first thing neutral fans and utd fans will say is "oh so suddenly first 2 games are forgotten"   you wont see any praise at all, and as petty as I sound i think it is because it is us who are signing him (most likely).  People will do anything to get one up on Mourinho and 90% of fans are praying he fails with us. Not least because if he finds any sort of form, theyre f**ked lol

Interesting how Colombia's coach trust in Falcao but gets nothing from him. He has Jackson Martinez on the bench but still starting with Falcao and he does nothing on the pitch. Ah, Jose won't revive the old Falcao, please cancel this deal if it's possible.

You have to consider the style and surrounding players.  These performances at Copa America have limited bearing on how he will be for us. In the 3 games the final ball, and crossing has been bang average

Funny thing is, after World Cup 2014 we got ridiculed and Costa was branded a flop already because he looked poor for Spain and had 1 "top quality" season in his career.  We know how that went.....

All players in Spain couldn't find themselves, Costa wasn't the only one, also his season in A.Madrid was fantastic to compare with Falcao. Falcao was one of the best strikers in the world, his last season in Man United was really poor and now in Colombia he does the same, showing nothing. I think we should work with our young strikers, Bamford for example. Falcao won't come back to his old form, even Jose won't do it. Instead of trying to do something impossible, we should promote our young strikers and I'm sure they have a lot of potential to do so. Jose let play Jese and Morata back in days, I don't see why not to use Bamford and even give few games to Dominic Solanke, who scored 40 goals in a season. This would promote our future and will save us some cash. Even if they will fail, we have Remy who had great season.

Not only are we lumbered with Falcao for a year. We also somehow managed to splurge £25m on Cuadrado.

Who on earth thought that was a good idea? Did anyone actually bother to see him play?

Board needs to get its act together. Seriously.

He hasn't even signed yet and we're already at nearly Torres levels of despair.

I suppose at least that means things can only get better, not worse??????

Costa was crap in the worIt's cup. It's not a marker

Costa was coming off the back of an incredible season for atletico though. Falcao has been anonymous for well over a full calendar year through loss of form and injury - so his latest showing at the copa is a bit of a concern

I'm not proclaiming he's goinng to suddenly become the man of old, I just don't think it's wise to judge his potential for the  club (which is not as first choice) on performances in this tournament.

Lets spin it on it's head for a moment....Torres won  the golden boot in the 2012 euros....

Again, you're spot on and I think you're speaking for the majority of Chelsea supporters who are taking a 'wait and see' approach. United wasn't a good place to judge him, international football is rarely a decent measure and we'll get all our answers in a few months time.

There's nothing wrong with saying that you don't know how something will play out but that's not how the internet works. It's all about certainties, proclamations based on black and whites. There is no nuance or insight into the different styles of football he'll be playing in or the finances of this deal.

You've made some brilliant points about this deal, about the opportunity cost of his signing and I'm torn between saying keep it up and don't bother.

He wasn't crap for 16 months previous to the world cup though.

These are the type of performances Falcao has been producing for well over a year now, it's the reason he was sent to the United reserve side with young products of the academy taking his squad place.

I don't think it's realistic that he will miraculously return back the clock after so long giving these type of performances.

I honestly don't think he's going to be a major success but I can see why Jose is doing this. I wish people would have a little faith in a manager who just guided us to a League title.

Falcao will be brought in to do a job and provide cover for Costa who has injury problems. It will be for a year and probably a year only, It's decent business when there is nothing else out there. I would much rather Falcao for a year than Benteke for 4 or 5, that would probably put the nail in the coffin for the likes of Bamford and Solanke ever succeeding at this club. Bamford/Solanke could potentially have loans at premier league clubs this year and bang in a number of goals. They could then come back full of confidence and take Falcaos place.

Or we could just do a Lukaku and sell them for 25+million.
